2021-2023 Transfer Portal news

I know for sure we are adding one grad transfer from the portal - I don't think he's listed on FLO because he went in the portal LAST year. Not at the weights most are talking about and one of our NCs is either going to have to RS or move up (which would cause another unexpected RS) for him to compete outside of opens.
Based on deductive reasoning I would guess it would be a 133 as RBY has a rs available or could move up causing the unexpected rs of Lee. Does not work for any of the other NC's bc a 141 does not cause an unexpected rs at 149, 174 CStar does not have a rs available but could move up allowing Brooks to rs, 184 Brooks can rs or move up but Beard does not have a rs available. Am I even close?

Right, but who is good enough to transfer in and take RBY's spot who didn't wrestle this year and entered the portal last year? There are really only two names - Micic and Suriano and both of them seem very unlikely. Maybe Vito? He's listed as 125 on Cornell's preseason roster on Wrestlestat, but 133 in their wrestler rankings. I doubt he would be able to take RBY's spot, but if he wants to transfer in as a 125, that would be much more helpful.

Good time to ask opinions about the transfer portal in general. Before any of the transfers started due to new rules in 2018, it was discussed on this forum. I can find the thread if you want.

Anyway, what are your thoughts now? Has it changed the landscape at all? My opinion is that the rule change has had a minimal effect on college wrestling.
for the most part I think this rule has done what it was attended to do, allow athletes to move on to a school that best fits there needs. I agree this has had little impact for most wrestling programs.

I'm just being vague to drive traffic to my spreadsheet. There's got to be a way to monetize it - every time I edit it there seems to be at least 2 or 3 people viewing!!!!😄😄😄 His transfer is not PSU need-based - just a graduate who is looking to train at the highest level possible.

Speaking of your spreadsheet, who is the 133 J.Campbell listed as a senior?

“He’s concerned that there’s not going to be a season at Cornell,” Big Red coach Rob Koll said. “That’s literally it. I disagree, but he’s already given up a year. I told the guys there’s no reason to think that we won’t have a season. But that’s really all there is to (his decision).”
Flo has this nugget from Koll.

I open that thing up and stare at it at least once a week. Thanks again.

Love the spreadsheet, but can you change the yellow at the top? I don't know about anyone else, but it's hell on my eyes to try to read those cells.

Guessing: Jakob Campbell from Boyertown. He's a 133 at Bucknell. 2022 would be his 5th year. IIRC Bucknell does not redshirt or allow grad athletes.

If he's the guy, everybody can exhale -- he's not pushing RBY or Lee into a shirt.

I don't see a scenario where Bravo-Young and Nick Lee aren't in the PSU line-up next season, question is where.

Can anybody help with this one; I'm behind on my Coffee Talk?

That’s not really how I interpreted that exchange at all. I think the earlier idea that Yianni is going up to 149 and Nick staying at 141 seems most likely. It was the episode with JO. I really fantastic episode if you want to know what high-level in match tactics are like.

Vito is only a sophomore, eligibility-wise, not a graduate.

Thanks! Any chance you can give us what *you heard Cenzo say, such that we can guess how Sockobuw twisted it?

yep, I agree. I don't think Cenzo was letting anything out of the bag. Just selling stuff to trim the bag

I'll probably butcher it--but at one point the topic of Nick vs. Yianni came up--it sounded to me more like JO hadn't heard of Yianni going to 149, and assumed they'd be at the same weight next year--but it was somewhat ambiguous to me.

Ha! I wasn't trying to get anyone to hold their breath, but sometimes I forget how some of the guys on here are. I had hoped to soft-pedal this with some of the wording, but that's harder than it looks. Hard-working kid, really good character kid, probably not competing in duals unless the stars align for him. But we've seen that happen almost every year. Always good to have these young men on the roster.

Also really liked hearing about JO's weight cut routine, and changing it all when he went to train at Cornell and Dake's input (and post weigh in breaking the fast routine)

If I may recommend some updates to the spreadsheet:
- Campbell has a shirt remaining, right? (He couldn't shirt at Bucknell.)
- 2022: can scratch Arrington -- committed to NC State.
- 2022: maybe add Van Dee? Not sure if interest in either direction, but he's nationally ranked.
- 2022: Haines won't be a college 149. Maybe 157? Willie said he might get to 165.
- 2023: Barnes won't be a college 174 -- he wrestled 189 this year.
- 2023: maybe add Johnson (Muncy)? M2 guy, state finalist, looked good against a several D1 commits.
- 2024: Harer probably won't be a 149 -- he wrestled 138 this year as a FR.
- 2024: can scratch Ferrari -- with 2 brothers at OKST and the family moved to Stillwater ...
- 2024: maybe add the Williams twins from Manheim?
- 2024: maybe add Kinney (Nazareth HWT)?

Admittedly I'm not familiar with the youth credentials of the 2024 guys, so maybe waiting for Fargo or Super 32 makes sense.

Anyway, thanks for this yet again.

Man, EJ's scary good!

Flattery will get you everywhere!

Seriously, I didn't do anything exceptional -- just went to Wrestlestat, picked 133, filtered to all starters, and scrolled ... and whaddayaknow, there was a J. Campbell just like in Dice's spreadsheet. And he's from PA. And he's a SR at a school that doesn't shirt or let grad students on varsity teams.

Dice's clue about being in the portal last year ... no idea about that.

Cenzo said Nick and Yianni have folk style battles to come.

Oliver thought Cenzo was saying Nick was moving up to 149.

Cenzo actually said during the show that he wasn’t suggesting that and that he didn’t even realize Yianni was moving up.

Bottom line: dumb Tweet

Thanks, Cholley

All good, I'll make the changes. I haven't paid much attention to HS wrestling this year with there being so little. Just basically teams that are/have been involved in ETR. Just getting up to snuff on the older MS kids over the past month as we are in the middle of our selection process (or more like 2/3 the way through - partials and NJSIAA teams left). Although that doesn't excuse my miss on Barnes and the Williams twins (Manheim Twp will be at ETR next year).
The 2024 kids haven't been edited in a while - I'll use your suggestions and then we'll revisit next fall/winter when we should see the return of the big tournaments. Then I'll do 2025 as well - you can never be too sure about who exactly ends up moving on to 9th grade until the start of the new school year.

So Cruz is off the radar? I have not seen that he committed any where?
