2021 Olympic Trials Results and discussion thread

wow... am I the only one that thinks that Gilman interview was 180-degrees from his past ones? (Think of that Iowa State event he was sent to...)

I had been hesitant to join the Gilman “bandwagon” just because of his “change of scenery “ at NLWC, but the maturity in that interview & his “hanging” with our alumni during the NCAA finals... he really looks like he’s in a “happy place”... so slow the wagon down so I can jump on it! :D
I think there’s been cracks in the tough guy veneer for a bit now, but he’s really letting it go now. He seemed so genuinely grateful for everything—pretty great stuff.

This result is all the more shocking given that the OTT was more of an afterthought to Nick after focusing on NCAA wrestling this year, whereas Yianni took off the year to prepare specifically for this very moment. Holy moly.
Agreed! Nick really beat him up, seemed to be pretty easily.

Does Zain need a change of scenery like Gilman? Seems to have hit a plateau 3 years ago. Might need a fresh approach.

I'd say Penn, but they already have McKenna. Maybe SERTC at VT?

WTF dude?

As a collegiate baseball pitcher high School football player high School wrestler, and recreational golfer who knows nothing about operating at the elite level I certainly had my good and bad days despite the preparation, times when I just didn't don't have it.

No matter the training, the diet, the the mental preparation, there are times when you're in the zone and times when it all doesn't come together and you're not in the zone.

Zane is training at the best room in the country bar none. I think Nick Lee coming off a national championship and was in the zone. The kid is amazing and in my wildest dreams I did would not have seen him taking out Zain in freestyle at this stage in his career.

I think Nick's on a high and Zain for whatever reason didn't seem to be as Zain like this weekend as most.

Not to mention Nick Lee is looking straight up impressive. And now he gets $$ and time on the world stage. The relentless attack man is coming.... whoa.

And Yianni didn't really care after losing to Oliver yesterday. Did you see his attitude when he beat McKee?

Don't get over your ski tips on the result of this match.

Nick Lee was on his 3rd match in like how many hours? The kid's gas tank is truly unlimited.
I'm not so sure about how much energy Nick had in the second half against Yianni. To me, he was looking as tired as Yianni was. His facial expressions and body language didn't look like he was 100%. However, there's a saying about running a marathon, "Run the first third with your brain, the second third with your body and the last third with your heart." I think we were seeing Nick's heart overcoming the fatigue he was feeling.

From personal experience I can tell you, the first 20 miles of a marathon are easy, it's the last six that are hard.
