2021 Olympic Wrestling Match Thread and USA Wrestlers.

It could also be the case that Yazdani is just physically unable to match David's pace, no matter how hard he trains. David's pace for a big man is unparalleled and he is the only wrestler who has been able to completely gas Yazdani (twice). It has to be nerve wracking for Yazdani knowing he might gas again on the World's biggest stage. We will see how both of them handle the mental stress of this match. I expect to see a phenomenal match, and I could see either winning depending on the flow of the match and the potential for a catastrophic mistake, being tossed to their back, etc. I am so excited and nervous for this match!
Your right. Reality could be that Yaz has maxed out his cardio vascular system and it is good as it is going to get. Everything reaches a point of diminishing returns, so, no matter how hard you work at something you may not get much better.

For most people, no matter how hard you work at it, you will never be as quick as RBY. Same as, no matter how hard you work, very few people have the physical capability of ever running a four minute mile.

Obviously to be great at something, you need to put an enormous amount of work it to it, it also requires a large amount of natural ability too.

Let’s break the theoretical dual down:
  • 57: we saw it last night. Slight edge to Rus
  • 65: Rashidov would be a heavy favorite, but I wouldn’t expect “bonus” against JO
  • 74: Sidakov is the king, but I think for only 2 more days. Dake in a close, boring match
  • 86: DT, a tech might be a reach, but he’s tech’d good Russians before.
  • 97: I see this as the swing match. Sadulaev is the favorite on paper.
  • 285: Gable, possibly by tech, probably not.
I think it’s a 3/3 split but I’m not super confident in any of them. Comes down to bonus, and how it’s calculated.

Way to go Thomas, definitely ready to wrestle great

New to freestyle. Someone help. Did I see that there are two bronze medal matches? How does that work

Since it's a dual, all the weight classes should be included.

Go for it! I think that skews things more towards Russia as a favorite though, even if we get Cox at 92. I guess with JB at 79, it would still be tight. Russia would be favored at 61 and 70

Yes. Each side of the consolations bracket gets its own bronze.

When considering which sports to keep vs. cut and how many athletes per sport to invite, IOC looks at how many countries earn medals. This lets more countries win medals, thus keeps the sport viable.

Ok that explanation is somewhat palatable. Not a fan of it, but if it keeps wrestling in the Olympics, I’m all for it.

Only the wrestlers who lose to the finalists can continue. Gilman, Uduleav and Atri lost to Uguev in that order. Gilman will now face Atri for the bronze. The same will happen with the others who lost to Ravi on that side of the bracket . There is no true 3rd. The winner of the wrestlers who lost to Uguev does not face the winner of the wrestlers that lost to Ravi. Clear as mud?

Good grief. Watching the Chamizio match is like watching PSU v Rutgers “hands to the face” match with the Georgia guy having no real interest in winning.

Not sure how athletic Shooting is, but some of those men in the Olympic Shooting events had bigger beer bellies than I do.
