2021 Recruiting Class Thread

I really like this kid - reminds me of more athletic Shaka Toney. Needs to add a lot of weight but you can't teach that first step and speed around the edge.
I agree, his film is just fun to watch...also has a basketball background but plays really hard and not afraid to get his hands dirty...his height, frame and speed are all top notch

Not the schools we are looking up at. These kids have to land somewhere. Clemson, LSU, Bama, OSU, Georgia -- lots of 5 star marriages

So you are saying that those schools all get the recruits who have them in their top 5s?? lol. Guess again.

Really? That's what I'm saying? And you're saying that clemson is usually a bridesmaid with 5 star recruits as much as PSU? Damn, I must have missed the past few classes where clemson whiffed on all of their top targets.

L e a r n H o w T o R e a d.

Is that their recruiting class rating for that year, or the average rating for their entire roster?

Either way, no doubt Dabo did a pretty remarkable job with good but not elite recruiting. Now that he's recruiting at an elite level........watch out.

Of course, it helps when you play in a garbage conference with maybe 2 or 3 meaningful games all year.

Elite QBs won both their titles. Lots of good players plus a few key elite player plus a weak schedule equals playoffs

Roster, I presume.

No. They were elite.

Assuming we have 8 openings left, how would you finish this class?

Current commits by position according to 247:

Who knows what CJF and his staff are thinking, but from looking at the roster I'd go:

RB - 1
WR - 2 (Prather and Thornton)
OL - 2
DB - 2 (Davis and McMillon, or Davis and another CB)
DL - 1 (1 DE or one DE/DT)

If the number is really 8 spots remaining it's no wonder that Prather is moving up his commitment date.

Just 1 LB in the class seems to cut the position thin. But if Fisher is at LB together with the other LB's from the last 2 classes the LB depth chart would be OK, and then CJF would bring in a couple stud LB's in 2022 that are ready to contribute early.

Could CJF not take a RB in this class with the young group he has? That would leave another spot for OL/LB/DL. I seem to believe that the class may include 5 total OL as that is the thinnest position on the roster and it seems to be the position where CJF has made the cut as a finalist for the largest group of highly regarded players.....

So, without a RB:
WR - 2 (Prather and Thornton)
OL - 3
DB - 2 (Davis and McMillon, or Davis/McMillon and another CB)
DL - 1 (1 DE or 1 DE/DT)

that's a good breakdown...i'd be fine with no RB this class...now if your talking say Donovan Edwards that's a guy u take...OLB seems like a tricky spot...does Fisher really stay at LB?...it seems Buddin or bust ...there doesn't seem to be a lot of true targets out there this cycle...I see Davis as a real possible OLB at next level...has he said anything about his preference (Safety vs OLB)?...does he only want to play Safety?...just asking

RB might be turning into Edwards or bust. Easier to use a scholly on another position (DB/OL) when you're sitting pretty with a handful of blue chip RBs in the '22 cycle. RS one of the Holmes/Lee and you have a stud in every class moving forward. Journey Brown getting drafted next year will only help too.

Like you, med and Wiz, I'd be ok without a RB as well unless it's Donovan Edwards.

Here's my reasonably optimistic attempt at our final class (8 new guys in bold):

QB Christian Veilleux

WR Lonnie White, Jr
WR Liam Clifford
WR Dont'e Thornton
WR Kaden Prather

OL Landon Tangwell
OL Nate Bruce
OL Nolan Rucci
OT Diego Pounds

DE Rodney McGraw

ILB Kobe King
LB Jamari Buddin

CB Kalen King
CB Jeffrey Davis Jr
CB De'Jahn Warren
FS Zakee Wheatley
SS Jaylen Reed
SS Derrick Davis, Jr
DB Donovan McMillon

PK Sander Sahaydak

--------
That would give us 251.33 points in the 247 class calculator (link) in a smallish class with 20 commits, which pulls us close to last year's 256 points with 27 signees. Swap Diego Pounds with Rocco Spindler and that brings us up to 259.53 points. --------

Others:
RB Donovan Edwards
WR Jalil Farooq
WR Andrel Anthony
OL Rocco Spindler
OT Tristan Leigh
OL Dellinger, Kendall, Fairchild
CB Tony Grimes
DT Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
DE George Wilson
TE

Somehow I feel we'll get a surprise from that remaining OL group.
Derrick Davis, De'Jahn Warren and Donovan McMillon, hard to say no to any of those additions in the defensive backfield; and you can't say no to Tony Grimes if he'd like to be the cherry on top on National Signing Day.

I kind of forgot about TE, and the staff has continued to offer TE's, it seems throughout the free world, indicating that they are pretty intent on getting one in this class.

So if CJF can get a TE commit, does that make it a race between Thornton and Prather for one spot? On the one hand, CJF took 5 WR's in 2020 with one being the JC WR who I believe CJF said would likely redshirt to build up his body which puts him as a 2021 - 2022 eligible WR. Together with the promising reports on the two 2019 WR's that redshirted.... If CJF gets a few commits in the next few months, how long will CJF hold a spot for Thornton? But from a roster perspective, getting Thornton would seem to make more sense than taking a RB just to have a RB in the class, so I agree that if CJF can not get a top RB like Edwards there may not be one in this class...

It will also be interesting to see how CJF manages taking commits for the remainder of the class. Will he keep a couple of the few remaining openings until early December, or possibly until the H.S. all star games, if some of his top targets drag out their recruitment until possibly the late signing day in February?....

Another caveat to what positions are addressed with the last few scholarships is an evaluation of the true freshmen that enroll in the Summer during Fall camp. For example, if Tyler Warren comes in and looks like a stud, but with limited opportunity to play in 2020 with Freiermuth and the others ahead of him fighting for backup reps, CJF may see Warren as a great compliment to Kuntz, Strange, and Johnson going into 2021 and then not take a TE in this class. Fall camp evaluations could have more impact at WR, OL and DL as there were big numbers of players at those positions in the 2020 class......
