2024 Olympics Wrestling (merged)

Anybody else thinking the North Korean women are more than a little dirty as a group? Eye-poking, attempting to injure knees, etc. Gotta watch yourself out there.

The little 50 kg fireplug from Mongolia seemed a little nasty. I think it was her who appeared to be twisting a knee for no other reason than to inflict a little pain. Then again, they get into such crazy scrambles. Who knows her intention.

Your subtlety going to be insufferable a decade from now when DT finally (maybe) gets OSU a title.
I think DT gets OSU a title way b4 10 years from now, "second best program!"

When he was taking his gap year at the OTC, I remember Aaron gave an interview where he mentioned Kevin Jackson taught him how to shut things down and win at the end of a tight match. I remember thinking at the time that I hope Cael would get that stink off of him. It’s not his usual style, and sometimes you gotta find a path.

But honestly just have to credit the “Bulgarian” His defense and scrambling savvy was the difference in that match. AB will get his gold.

You can't shut down in freestyle. They are so much quicker with a stall call. I was so worried they would put Brooks on the clock with 40 seconds left. Assuming he wouldn't get the takedown, the 1 pt would have tied with the tiebreaker to the Bulgarian (I think).

Fending off the bent leg turk took a lot out of him. I was begging for a stalemate. At some point, the Bulgarian appeared to give up on trying to turn him. Brooks got caught.

Burrows may have nailed it. Inexperience at this level of freestyle?

Experience had nothing to do with how easily he gave up his legs. His reaction time (speed) was off early. Sure, he did crawl to the edge, but that's a mistake even veteran FSers try to get away with.

And then yeah, desperation mode after that. RBY is the fastest guy in the bracket - but it sure didn't look like it.
We will have to agree to disagree. Freestyle referees will kill you if you bounce in and out, don't engage with your opponent, circle without tying up too often, etc. You can get away with all of that in folkstyle but not so much in free. RBY's folkstyle 'style' is not very conducive to success in freestyle and it is clear he is being coached to change his approach. Check out the recent rokfin video of PSU training for the Olympics. You will see RBY tying up and pretty much wrestling the same way in those practice sessions.

I agree he did not look fast at all but needs to find some sort of compromise that allows him to use his speed without getting constantly dinged with passivity and cautions. And I wouldn't be surprised if his weight cut was sapping his strength as well and that doesn't help.

I hope RBY does stick around for another olympic cycle as we will see a dramatic improvement in his freestyle results if he does. He has the talent ... just not yet the experience and tactics he needs right now.

I can remember 6 matches during my 15 years of wrestling when I dove for a leg and tried to hang on and win with a one point lead. I was 2-4 in those matches, LOL.

As soon as AB went for the ankle I was unfortunately having flashbacks. That was a crushing defeat and I feel for Aaron as he dominated that match and deserved to be in the finals with a shot at Yaz.

Yes he was. He physically and mentally broke Aaron with that bow and arrow
I'm not sold on this bow and arrow being a legal move. The way the knee is jacked is just begging for an injury. I know Zain uses it with great efficiency. It just looks too dangerous to me. I think it needs to be banned.

So let me guess: No live coverage tomorrow morning unless I buy peacock again?
Just one thing to note on Aaron's match, Ramazanov snapped Aaron down into that final position. Aaron wasn't just diving for the ankle on his own there. It is also rare to see European wrestlers as well conditioned as Ramazanov was. It was his conditioning that was the deciding factor at the end. That "almost" takedown by Aaron that would have made it 5-0 was the back breaker for sure. Aaron was so close to finishing there.

I must have been one of the two.

As expected, Shapiev beats the Canadian, Moore, and will wrestle AB for Bronze.

Emami vs Chamizo underway on A
Frank still has the funk, was dead to rights vs the Iranian but somehow turned it into his own 2 for exposure, leads 4-3 after 1.

Winner of Chamizo vs Emami is likely to be Dakes second round opponent

Zhamalov now spells his name Jalolov with his switch to representing UZB

What D from Zhamalov! Full splits and somehow ends up on Kari’s leg to get the stalemate. He’s up 1-0 at the break

Kadi goes on the clock a second time. His defense his crazy. Zhamalov has had him dead to rights multiple times and hasn’t scored. Big exchange here though with an exposure and activity point. 4-0 Zhamalov with a min to go. Now a 4 for Zhamalov and it’s over. Huge win for the former Russian now representing UZB. No Kadi-Dake rematch happening this Olympics

74kg MFS - Round of 16 - Kyle Douglas Dake VS Anthony Chirinos Montero (VEN)

P1:
Here we go!
Dake pushing forward a little off the whistle, drops to a leg, working & finishes off the TD, 2-0, adds a turn as they go out of bounds, 4-0, restart
Tying up in the center, Dake snaps, nothing
Montero loses the tape from his ear & they're back to the tie up near the center
Dake reaches for an ankle, nothing, back to their feet
Montero comes forward a little, then they break, 4-min left
Dake reaches for an ankle, gets it, keeps working & gets another TD, 6-0, adds a turn & another for the 10-0 Tech

Kyle Douglas Dake TECH Anthony Chirinos Montero 10-0 (2:20)
