Akhmed Tazhudinov DEC Kyle Fredrick Snyder 6-4

JB just said, "For the first time in 56 years the Men's freestyle team fails to win a gold medal."
Remember, they only have 6 chances not 10. Many wrestling at a catch weight

Perhaps one Olympics doesn't tell the tale, but perhaps the US team needs to rethink some strategy. The world seems to have passed us by.

Need to move on from folk style. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but the rest of the world is doing it differently.

Sorry, if I am late to this. Dake was upset with the challenge, right? He didn't like the time/sequence they were looking at in the challenge.

I believe he was saying they had the wrong photo up on the screen. They also missed the challenge in the first place.

with the challenge, right? Didn't want it
To my ears Kyle seemed to be saying the officials were reviewing the wrong sequence, and re-reviewing something they already consulted on, which Kyle mistakenly thought was challenged.

Again to my ears, JB couldn't figure out what sequence Kyle thought should be challenged. JB even asserted Kyle was misremembering when the sequence he was referring to occurred.

Maybe someone will interview Kyle about it.

With Akgul hanging them up I wonder if Geno loses to Zare if he retires as well…or if he wins. Going out on top would be pretty cool

I disagree.

I was thinking along the lines of tweaking training and techniques. Not a complete teardown of the system down to the elementary level.
We have 3 or 4 guys on the backside of their careers, maybe calling it quits after this. At least 3 from that group are going to medal. Our Heavyweight is the B team, only there because the other guy lost interest. The last guy just won bronze after dethroning the pound-for-pound #1 in the sport. No need to change anything.

Let’s go Geno. He seems like such a cool dude plus he’s came to train at the NLWC before. Zare has beaten him up the past few years but Geno has looked good this tournament

Wow! Geno! Techs Zare!! Holy shit. What a ****ing performance. Best performance of the tournament. Absolutely brilliant from Geno

Challenge Zare. Last 2 taken away. 10-1 so match continues

Zare teched Geno in the world finals last year. What a turnaround. That 4 from Geno on the edge was massive

Zare with a push out and caution and 1. 10-3 now with 1:30 to go

10-5. Zare coming now. That challenge really sucked for Geno. He thought he won and was celebrating with his coaches and then had to go back on the mat. Zare with another Td and turn. It’s 10-9!! WTF!!!

He does it!! Hangs on and wins 10-9. What a ****ing crazy match! Geno stole Zares move of putting on his crown and Zare didn’t like it

Geno with the 12-1 tech over Zare! Wow!

Hold on, Iran challenging. Challenge won & score changed to 10-1 Geno. They go back to center & the 1st period ends.

Period 2:
Geno looking for an opening, but Zare defending well. Plenty of action in the first minute, but no scoring, 2-min left
Geno keeps looking for an opening, Zare drives forward & pushes Geno out, 10-2, Caution +1 as well & it's 10-3 Geno.
Geno taking injury time & getting some cold spray on his right elbow. 1:35 left
Zare gets a TD off the restart & it's 10-5 Geno, 1:16 left
Geno taking his time getting back to center
Zare working an underhook, drives Geno to the edge, but Geno drops in on a leg, Zare counters & gets the TD, then adds a turn & it's 10-9 Geno, restart, 33-sec left.
Zare ready to go & Geno still kneeling on the mat
Tying up in the center, Zare coming forward, Geno drops in on an ankle, Zare reaching around & time expires.

125kg Gold Medal Match: Geno Petriashvili (GEO) DEC Amir Zare (IRI) 10-9

That sounds very reasonable. I haven't followed freestyle that much, especially internationally. I'll step away from the small cliff I was ready to jump off.
