2024 Olympics Wrestling (merged)

Snyder vs Taz semifinal should be epic. Would love to see Snyder back in the Olympic finals!!
Snyder getting silver or gold would justify his coming to the NLWC. He was stagnating in Ohio, and it takes a lot of maturity and self reflection to turn away from the organization that had helped get you the first one. Heart of a champion.

It's not going to be easy for him. His Semi opponent beat him 10-0 (before beating Sadulaev 9-2) at worlds last year. If anyone can, Kyle can.

If he loses to Taz his Bronze medal match will likely be against Azarpira who beat Snyder at the Zagreb in January 6-3.

This has to be one of the stupidest things he's ever said. Bigger/different weight classes, sure. But a survey of the Tognetti Family isn't exactly supporting evidence.
Actually, I was going to compliment Burroughs for saying something intelligent for a change.

But the point remains that Kennedy Blades is not exactly overweight and seems to have trouble making weight at the highest weight class for women. If JB's data is legit, which I have no reason to doubt, lots of women are being turned away from the sport because of an unrealistic weight class cap.

If it were a survey of HS/college/professional female athletes in sports without weight classes, then sure. How do we know what it was? He didn't provide any citation.

But the general population? Please. So much for the "obesity epidemic."

This is not supporting data for what should be a legitimate argument.

Happy that he came to NLWC but not going to convince me he was stagnating given all the medals he won prior to coming

I’m hoping Snyder watched the Taz/Azapira match because Azapira wrestled him perfectly for 5 minutes. Kyle needs to handfight extremely hard, snap, fakes, pressure but no real committed attacks in the first period where he can be caught underneath the massive Taz. Then in the second he can open up a bit and hopefully make Taz take some chances as well. The length advantage Taz has played a huge part in their first meeting. Also, Snyder needs to take attacks like snatch singles where he is attacking high and try not to go low level. Taz is great countering from those positions

Yes, the supporting "data" is very suspect and I wouldn't expect Burroughs to construct a sound logical argument. But when someone as fit as Kennedy Blades is having trouble making the highest weight (especially when she was at 68kg three years ago), the eye test has been failed in a big way.

Not to mention, the highest weight class for girls in high school is 235 and in college it is (now) 207. So there are several weight classes of girls in high school and college that are already are too big for international wrestling

This is a far better point that Burroughs should've cited, or should cite in the near future with more time to reflect.

Though one might reasonably ask why the college max is nearly 30 lb lighter than the HS max. Separate point, not intending to derail this thread.

Also, I wonder if other countries use non-UWW weights in their domestic age-group competitions. And if so, what those weights are.

Yeah, this was my immediate reaction as well. If that weight "data" is from the overall population, it doesn't mean much, unless we're talking about sumo wrestling.

Amouzad stayed planted in the center while Zain darted in and out. Kept breaking engagement and was always towards the boundary. No ref will ever put Amouzad on the clock in that situation.

I was noting the difference between freestyle vs. folk style yesterday. This is a perfect example.

Wrong. He was looking for a lifestyle change with his wife (a doctor) and now child. It wasn’t in Columbus. The combo in HV fit his needs. Success on the mat is not an indication of right or wrong. KS has a lot of other things going on off the mat. He’s an inspiration locally and elsewhere.

I think this was actually yesterday, but JB called out a wrestler for doing the sock adjustment breather, and he admitted he has done that move. Which got him a bunch of crap when he did it against Mitchell at the Trials.

Has anyone else tried to use the "go to" function on Peacock replays? It sucks. They have the matches well organized, but when you go to the third match, it often times isn't the third match. And almost every time you change it, you get hit with 2 minutes of commercials that you are locked into. And they run the same Harris and Trump commercials every f'ing time............

I will say that multiview was excellent. Came in real handy on Thursday with so many matches of interest. You could pick the mat you wanted to focus on and click on it for full screen. Hit return and you are back to three mats. I just don't like getting up at 5 on a Saturday to use it.

That was the bronze match for Cruz. Truth was his ankle wasn't 100% and it got tweaked. He was shaking it off.

Burroughs conveniently omitted the sentence directly above that table:

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that about 31.9% of adults in the United States have obesity."

And this table further down:

RegionConsidered having overweight (%)
Asia24.2
Europe55.6
Africa28.9
Latin America and the Caribbean57.9
North America73.9
Oceania63.3
World34.7

UWW probably isn't moved by this.

That dude is long.

Not sure how many times Amouzad and Musukaev have wrestled but I know for sure they are 1-1 against each other with Musukaev winning a tight one at worlds last year. We really need Amouzad to win and get Zain back in. Zain needs another match!

Come on Iran!

Amouzad looking great so far. 4-0 right away. Wow!! Beautiful 4. 8-0 in 1:50. He’s making Musukaev wrestle in his positions

This is an absolute ass beating. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen. 10-0 tech in the first!! Zain is back in!!!

I have. It worked pretty good this morning. Seems best to use live (although it takes them some time to add the most recent completed match).

I like how the block of time for the match is mapped to the playback timeline.

I don't think they add the mandatory commercials until the full replay is processed, but I could be wrong.
