2025 Big Ten Tournament thread

He just beat the #5 wrestler in the country. Most guys would kill for those kind of issues.
Good point. Gassing and having to hold on for dear life is completely fine and shouldn't be addressed. If anything they should do the opposite and have him wrestle a complete match in the practice room before taking the mat at Nationals so he can be out of gas from the very beginning since it doesn't matter at all.

141 Consi SF - Beau Bartlett VS Joseph Olivieri (RUT)

Period 1:
Here we go! Olivieri is another tall & lanky wrestler. Beau shoots, Olivieri counters & gets a leg. Beau is fighting him off & gets free, then goes to work on a 2 on 1. Out of bounds & neutral restart. Circling & head tapping. Beau is holding center. He pushes forward & has Olivieri near the edge, 2-min left. Olivieri circles around the edge, then they break. Back to center circling, hand fighting & head tapping. Beau takes a hard swipe at Olivieri, but misses. Beau drops in on a leg, elevates it & finishes off the TD, 3-0. Beau is riding then takes Olivieri out of bounds, restart. Olivieri is still down, 47-sec left. Beau +21-sec RT. Olivieri sits out, turns & gets the escape, 3-1. Back to center circling, 30-sec left. Beau goes back to the 2 on 1. Olivieri locks around the head & time expires. 3-1 Beau, +28-sec RT

Period 2:
Beau takes down. He gets to his feet & is working for hand control. He gets it & Olivieri pushes him away, 4-1. Tying up & pushing in the center now. Beau goes back to the 2 on 1. Stoppage & restart, 1-min left. Circling, hand fighting, snaps & tie-ups. The pace has slowed. The ref is yelling words of encouragement, but that doesn't motivate anyone. More circling & tying up to end the period. 4-1 Beau, +21-sec RT

Period 3:
Olivieri takes down. Beau drags Olivieri's leg back & is looking to ride. Olivieri gets a whizzer & the ref blows it dead, restart. Olivieri is still down. Beau goes back to the ride & gets to 50-sec RT before Olivieri gets free for the escape, 4-2. Circling & tying up in the center, 1-min left. Olivieri shoots, but Beau blocks him off, 45-sec left. Beau drives Olivieri out of bounds. Stall call on Olivieri. Circling & head tapping, 30-sec left. Olivieri reaches, but no luck. Olivieri shoots & Beau gets a stall call. Beau gets the head & drives Olivieri out of bounds, restart. Olivieri comes forward. Beau tries to come behind. Olivieri hits a rolls & time expires.

Beau Bartlett DEC Joseph Olivieri 4-2

Beau is also into the 3rd place match!

Seeding implications aside, that's always a fun match. And, the seeding implications are great. IF Mendez wins, God knows what they'll do with 141 at NCAAs, but IF Bartlett wins, I don't know how he wouldn't get the #1 seed. He'd have only one loss and have a win over Hardy and 2 wins over Mendez.
Beau might end up the 1 according to NCAA seeding math. I'm too lazy to calculate that right now, especially when the coaches' rank is likely to change.

But the NCAA Wrestling Committee can overrule the math by +/- 3 spots. Will they really allow a conference 3rd to get the 1 seed over every conference champ?

Guessing Happel (currently 4th in the coaches poll) will get the 1 seed if he wins B12s.

Byers just said that winning here in the consy semis is worth 3 points, plus any bonus.......
3.5
.5 for advancement, 3 for difference between 6th and 4th place plus any bonus.

The 3/4 and 5/6 place matches are 0 advancement, 1 pt for placement plus bonus.

133 Consi SF - Braeden Davis VS Braxton Brown (MD)

Period 1:
Hand fighting, pushing & tying up in the center of the mat. Stalemate & restart. Davis tries a 2 on 1, but no luck. Brown gets double unders & tries a throw. Davis counters & fights it off, then finishes off the TD, 3-0. Out of bounds & restart. Blood time for Davis. Wait, MD threw the brick. I'm not sure what the challenge is, but the zebras are at the table reviewing their own call. The video feed has switched to a different match, so I have no idea what is going on with Davis now. Byers is saying Davis has a cut in his mouth. The TD is good. Davis, 3-0. Brown starts down. He gets to his feet. Davis tries to turn. Brown looks for a reversal, but Davis gets 4 NF, 7-0. Brown gets a reversal, 7-2. Still no video of Davis on Mat 1. Just listening to Byers Davis gets an escape, 8-2. That's how the 1st period ends. Davis 8-2

Period 2:
I don't know what's going on with the video feed, so PBP is off Byers call. Brown took down. He's trying to work up, but can't & it's a stalemate. Brown is still down. Davis is riding tough. Davis goes over 1-min RT. Now, I got Bartlett on all three of the multi-view screens. Too funny. Davis gets a 2nd stall call, missed the 1st, Brown gets a point, 8-3. Davis goes over 90-sec RT, then Brown gets the escape, 8-4. Davis +1:33 RT. Circling & tying up as the period ends.

Period 3:
The video feed is back! Huzzah! Davis takes down. He sits out, turns & gets the escape, 9-4. Davis still has +90-sec RT. Davis shoots a head outside single & gets the leg. Brown locks through the crotch. They keep scrambling. Davis hips over. Brown comes up under the arms & gets a TD, but then it's quickly waved off & they stop. The zebras are back at the monitor.Back to action, no TD for Brown. The score is 9-4 Davis. Circling & tying up. Brown shoots & gets a leg. Davis locks around the waist. Brown is in deep, but no call. Brown keeps working & gets the TD, 9-7, 35-sec left. Brown is riding Davis & gets RT under a minute. Brown rides out Davis, but loses the match.

Braeden Davis DEC Braxton Brown 9-7

Davis will wrestle for 3rd.

Was watching on track - apparently Davis was called for stalling twice on top despite the fact he already had 4 NF in first period. Utter bullshit the consistency of the way top stalling is called... - Bartlett spent much of his time on bottom on his feet yesterday and not a single top-stall.... worse yet, Vombaur rewarded with a RT point for that bullshit where he never attempted to score from top and never really had a controlling ride on Bartlett. Folk needs to do something about their "Riding Time Rules" - many of the "rides" we see in these matches are not worthy of rewarding with points.

The only thing that matters for Beau is avoiding Allirez/Mendez until the finals. Other than that the only thing that can stop him from wrestling on Saturday night is if he decides not to try and score.

What do you think they can do about gassing in the next 2 weeks, that doesn't tax him unnecessarily as the team tries to peak physically and mentally for NCAAs?

Try to relax and trust the coaches.

Isn’t this one a big deal. So they avoid each other in qtrs (potentially )
