2025 Big Ten Tournament thread

Day 2 funsies:

Met a couple of old Iowa dawgs. Unlike their coach, got no crap from them for wearing PSU gear! Very considerate with their time (despite being photobombed by Mitch).

My son and daughter are Beaus biggest fans and rocked two different shoes the whole weekend. Then we ran into him during the finals. He is a funny cat. Asked them if they ever feel off balanced wearing two different shoes. Pulling for him big time next week!

Shane Sparks is THE announcing man. If a sport could ever grow strictly by way of announcer passion, he and Rock would be the ones. My filterless son went over to Kerk while Kerk was talking to his dad during the ceremonies and asked if he could get a hat. Kerk gave him the hat off his head. Mr Kerkvliet took off before I could let him know what a fine representative his son has been for the program. Hopefully he still reads the board. I can’t remember his handle to @ him.

These events rock. I assume most here have been to a B1G or NCAA, but if not, you need to make it happen. The camaraderie of the weekends is top notch.
I will echo your note about attending and the people you get to meet.

Two years ago we met Ramos’ family, and Mendez’s Uncle, plus Shane Sparks, at at Buffalo Wild Wings.

This year I got to finally meet @amattaro and his family. Walking between sessions we chatted with Mr. Kerkvliet and his wife, very nice people. Then in a bar we hung out with Cardenas’s dad, he was travelling by himself. I gave him my card, hopefully he reaches out for NCAA’s. He had an interesting take on why he did not want his son to go to Iowa, supposedly turned down a Teemer bag for less money at UM. I won’t share his reason here, only in person. We also tailgated a bit with the Kasak family, got the uncle’s contact info so we can meet up at NCAA’s. They brought an ice cream maker and made their own ice cream in the parking lot!

Plus scored quality time with my son, @hlstone and @RoarLions1 and his wife, all awesome people!

And finally Mrs Warner’s first name is Denise

That is rich after they refused to wrestle Gallagher, who was NOT injured by the way. The Rogotzke slam may not have been intentional, but anyone could imagine that such a thing might cause an actual injury. Just another reason why I think Ryan is a tool, no matter how often people defend him and say that he's actually a good guy. For what it's worth, if Gallagher was willing to stand down and forfeit to Mesenbrink, then that's his prerogative, but for Ryan to then try to call ANYONE out for cowardice is really, really rich.

Pretty sure he's feeling that he's on his way to the door per my purportedly self-proclaimed tOSU Skulls insider source. Back channels want to go all in with Logie Bear. Say it's Logan Stieber taught techniques that Spencer emulated and they are pissed about missing out on Marcus Blaze after his training at the Ohio RTC. Besides, there's a youth movement afoot after DT's OSU year one success.

The greatest recruiting class in history has not performed through year three. Not liking either Rocco's redshirt in favor of Kharchla or keeping Davino in RS. So there could be a bit of of IDGAF anymore in play.

After the DQ (match vs Cartagena-Walsh), Rogotzke was shown in Track as wrestling in the 184-lb 9th place semi mini tournament against Daly. Not sure if he actually wrestled/won and went on to wrestle for the 9th place spot. Flo shows only 8 NCAA qualifiers at 184 from the B1G.
Bullock won the 9th place match over Rogotzke.

Yes he wasn’t disqualified from the tournament just the match.
In his defense i doubt it was intentional it just happened to be illlegal and unfortunate

Was there any talk here about the circle jerk ref show on the Rogotze DQ? The refs raised Rogotzke’s hand, he left, Goodale blew his stack, the refs convened another circle jerk, then raised CWs hand when Rogotzke was long gone.

The toss could have gone bad and was a bit surprised he wasn't dinged for it. There is an explicit responsibility to bring wrestlers back to the mat safely except in WWE.
I disagree with this at this level. You pretty much have to spike someone on their head (see Rogotzke) or trap an arm to get called for a slam at this level.

HS- yes. Safe return is paramount. NCAA - these are men we are talking about. Unless your opponent is compromised and you're showing intent to injury, they are not calling a slam. If you toss him to the mat like Gable did, not going to get called ever.

Keep these stories coming. They are really insightful. Wrestling fans are like a cult but in a good way. Even the folks from IA.

We also met Kasak's little brother. Great personality on that rascal. He recently won a huge youth tournament in State College. His grip strength is incredible for a kid his age.

We also met a couple of Iowa posters with PSU Mike (who rocks!!) , they say Iowa is buying a line up that will compete with PSU next year. 197, 141, and 125 will be free agent signings and more.

There's another one? Cool.

That's what "they do"

Oh, hello!

I didn't think Kerk moved his feet enough. I am wondering if he was simply 'feeling him out' (although they have wrestled before - but not for awhile) and setting up for Natty's.... just a thought :)

Have to agree with the OP - match more lopsided than the score. Steveson appeared to be very conservative regarding his energy level.... He just layed on Kerk and didn't try to do a thing from top after all three of his takedowns. Then, with quite a bit of time remaining in third, he appeared to let Kerk up and just play defense rather than go for the Major. Not sure what was up with that other than his energy level being limited and he had to manage it (not unusual when someone gets that big - a body that big only has so much "max energy" output.

Except that he didn't toss him to the mat - he intentionally tossed him sideways off of the mat and literally into the photographers. Probably should have been penalized - completely unnecessary and very dangerous to multiple people not just his competitor.

I
He hated the cut to 157 and is having a ball just wrestling without much to worry about with the weight. Depending on what everybody else wants to do it would not surprise me if he wrestled 184 next year, nor would 174 surprise me. 174 will be a cut though.
if he prefers 84 I am sure Ryder would be more than happy to take the 74 spot.

Levi doesn't look overly huge but his weight leaving practice last September was 182 and he has zero fat. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up around 190 this summer with zero fat.

Zero fat? Don’t we call that skim?

I wish all our guys were as skim as Levi!

Ryan has some good qualities, but his mouth undoes any good feelings I have about his program and it having good, quality kids. The little bit of rot that apple occasionally displays reveals that at some level it reaches the core. Deep down, Ryan is a dick at heart.
Only he and his closest people really know. I prefer to suspect it is the opposite — he is good at the core but dickishness escapes in the heat of the moment . . . and he just experiences too many heated moments.
