Football 2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Can someone explain the thought process on a few of these guys leaving their team now? Especially if it involves a bowl or potential playoff team? Why not finish out 4 more weeks, get the bowl/playoff experience, be with your teammates, have some fun doing it, THEN move on?

The goal is to get to your new team asap. Certain players are going to be in high demand no matter what. Others may get better offers early and see them wane as others enter the portal.

A guy like Cross, he's probably ready to find a school with playing time opportunities. He's bid his time. He just hasn't seen the field. I'm honestly shocked he didn't leave after the spring game, but I'm going to assume he finished his degree. He's got a limited amount of time left to play the game and he probably sees going somewhere and playing as more important than probably not even traveling to Indy for the ccg and whatever the playoff brings.

Having a receiver of his caliber this season beats OSU. It’s tough to say for next season what we exactly need at WR with some guys coming back and still developing and promising young guys like Denmark looking to get some playing time.
PSU has to bring in a #1 WR from the portal. Criteria: ability to consistently catch the ball, gain separation @ LOS, run crisp routes, and win 50/50 balls Can't continue to play "wait & see" with those currently on the roster.

No throwing shade here. Just thought it was board-worthy.

Rhule expects as many as 50 outgoing transfers this year.

His seems to be a one off, but I didn't follow NC State enough to tell you for sure. He only missed one game from his stat line, but McCall got knocked out of the Clemson game and I'm not sure how much he played in the other games.

Even so, his stats would have made him our #2 WR if simply plugged in. Ironically his teams leading receiver was a TE. His 53 receptions at least says he can catch the ball.
Yeah, McCall basically tried to die this year and NCSU wasn't the same without him

50 outgoing.
Right and, as Dylan said, we need to lose 60--so at least 30 of those will be transfers to go along with graduation and early entry into the NFL draft. Most schools probably want 20-50 players to transfer--it's just do the right kids transfer or do you lose guys that matter.

Smallish (5'11") and stats are not impressive. Pass.

Two tOSU WR's enter the portal. These were guys passed over by the program for younger players. Kojo Antwi (four star kid from GA) and Jayden Ballard (4 star kid out of Massilon OH). Also are losing a linebacker named Gabe Powers (4 star linebacker from Marysville OH).

Probably only played on special teams. Not what PSU is looking for.
#1 portaal priority is a proven/very productive WR to take on #1 WR position
#2 LBer (proven/producive starter)
#3 Edge rusher (proven/productive starter)

I think powers is more of a DE now. Osu fans expected him to contribute next year and be a team leader per their board.

I'd have to imagine we kick the tires on Trotter. Regardless of King's go/stay decision, depth at LB was an issue this season. May as well snag a true thumper for BIG play next season.

PSU has a blind spot at linebacker. We are more interested in speed an athleticism than actually being able to tackle.

Most schools need 50 with the scholarship limits

No. Most schools dont need 50 transfers. That is on top of 25 graduates a year. They need about the same number of outgoing as incoming. Some of Rhule's outgoing transfers are probably even starters. He even made the comment that he wanted them to stay.

Agree. For me, LBers need to effectively take proper angles (read/react quickly), be able to take on/defeat blockers, and tackle well. Athleticism and very low 40 times are less important. Just my preference.

Pitt's WR Daejon Reynolds is entering the portal. He's a FL kid who was at FL for two years before transferring to Pitt.

Longtime Buckeye backup QB Devin Brown announced Sunday night he'd be entering the transfer portal but would remain with the team through Ohio State's College Football Playoff run. The Buckeyes play Dec. 21 against Tennessee in the No. 8 vs. No. 9 game.

I like the fact he's staying with the team for the playoff run--he absolutely needs to leave because he'll never start there but doing the right thing

Agreed. We need some Shane Conlan type guys. We need folks who know how to play that position and when they do they'll look plenty fast on the field.
Rojas is invisible. He's being outplayed in every aspect by a former walkon.

Agreed--Rojas has gone past invisible though--he's a liability

We certainly don't see players break down and make good form tackles like in the old days. It's more shooting the gaps and hoping to grab a leg. JMO.

But LBU is certainly in the middle of a dry streak. When was the last high 4* LB recruit (6.0 rating)? We've had several low 4* kids. Tasch & Burnett were too young as true freshmen. Same with RS freshmen Jackson & Speca. Rojas & Robinson were from the 2023 class but Robinson hasn't played much. PSU really needs a couple of those kids to step up next year because I assume we lose King. Will Deluca be back?
