SgtCarter calling someone a jackass. I've seen it all.

Exactly. I had to look twice at who it was who was chastising others about a lack of civility as I couldn't believe it was the sarge. Maybe someone hijacked his account. Otherwise, he's about the biggest hypocrite going.

The new format has brought out his alter ego.

I never understand why people publicly announce they are leaving an online forum. If you want to leave, just leave.

Save the self-eulogy. Just leave if it pisses you off that much.

I like the self-eulogies... For many reasons, but not the least of which, that way, when someone I "know" stops posting, I know it's not because something bad happened to them.

Thanks for the post, Cosmos. I'm done too. The other threads I open and/or post on are the ones started to complain about the new format. Those are the only posts that really lend themselves to the new format (i.e. not a conversation, but simply a post and then a bunch of comments on that post -- ala facebook).

To answer the as yet unanswered question... "deputy" is obviously a combination of deputy and dipshit.

Just sayin'.

In the mean time, why don't we all just lighten the f**k up?!?

My suggestion is that we start drinking heavily

Happy trails to you TCF. I enjoyed reading your posts whether I agreed with you or not. Best wishes.

Is anyone making a list of the guys that are "leaving" never to come back?

Something tells me that a few months from now......they'll all still be here.

I really hope you are not actually leaving and if you have made that decision, you will reconsider. Of the many hundreds of people who post here there are a dozen or so that I really enjoy and you are one of them. I certainly liked the old format better than the new one, but to me, it's the quality of the posts, not the format, that is most important. Rather than leave, perhaps you could just cut back a bit and see how this all shakes out. If you are really leaving, I wish you all the best.

If someone says they're leaving, I take them at face value. Of course, we know that it is likely that they''ll be back to, at the very least, lurk. Lurking isn't leaving. I fully admit that I've tried to leave several times in the last year and couldn't do it.

I agree with you and I hope much of this is just frustration that will cool over time. A while ago (I can't remember how long) I posted that I was taking a break from the Board and I did. I was burned out over all the Sandusky stuff and our pathetic leadership. I was gone maybe 2 weeks and came back because I enjoy the people here. I hope that's the case with others who say they are leaving.

I wish many of you would chill a bit.

It's somewhat of a tradition on the board for long-time members of the community to post an alert when they are disappearing for a long period, or forever. It's a heads up so we're not left wondering what happened to XXX, and also a way to say goodbye.

If the reason folks are leaving is because of the change in board formats, it is what it is.

I'm kind of surprised that some of you seem to take any knock on the new board format as a personal attack. We're better when we appreciate that no two people think alike, and when we also are considerate of other people's preferences, likes, dislikes, etc.

If someone is saying goodbye, I ask each of you to restrict your replies to that individual, and to avoid comments about the board format, or speculations about how long the person really will be gone.

Post like this make it as tough as possible. Thanks for the kind words, fairgambit, and I hope you know that you're easily one of my favorite posters as well (not just saying that to return the compliment -- it's 100% true). Your sense of humor, and ability to be so funny in writing -- I will miss.

I will definitely still check in on the board, and I won't say that I'll "never ever ever" post here agiain, but... And I want this to be very very clear... I'm not leaving in protest. I just know that, because the format is so much less conclusive to break-out conversations (which is what you want with a sports message board), and it's more effort to see/learn/discover what sub-conversations are breaking out, I'll naturally/organically participate much less.

There is another PSU site out there (247Sports) that is really great with regards to content and discussion forum posters. I have been a pay member there for about three and a half years, and generally, I enjoy the site a lot. However, I rarely (relatively) participated much on the purely topic view board over there. Sure, I would make posts/comments -- but it was (is) more like facebook, where it's really only easy to post a comment on the OP. Getting continuous discussions breaking-out and or going just is so much more cumbersome. Basically, it's much less enjoyable (and more work, if you want to participate in back-and-forth conversations).

So, I just wanted to make it clear that 1) I'm not leaving in protest; 2) Yeah, I'm sure I'll make a post here and there (and I'll still lurk some); and 3) My dislike of the new format is not because of some resistance to change that I'll get used to. I have 3000+ posts on the 247Sports PSU message board, so I've certainly put in the effort to adopt topic view -- But 3000 posts over 3.5 years is only about 2 a day (much less than I post here and the test board) -- And in the month of April, I've only made 8 total posts there.

It's just not as enjoyable -- And it's not the fellow posters or the content, or the topics.

So anyway, thanks again fair. I'll still be watching for your name on threads (though that will be much more difficult now because you can't see who's posting in a thread, and I'm not going to "follow" anyone), and will chime in from time to time. But unfortunately, they'll probably just be more one-off posts, rather than active participation.

tcf,

You can also "Follow" posters on this board. You can then go to your "follow" page, and click/read exactly what they post.

Funny you say that. I was just thinking how much like facebook this was not even 15 minutes ago. Then I thought about who this supposedly is designed to appeal to, and started a new thread.

In neither case am I complaining, but the pups will say I am.

Except he didn't choose to just post to let people know he was leaving and say goodbye, he instead chose to complain about what he perceives as a "blatant disregard for the end-user (e.g., cram down of the board reformat)", in addition to name-calling other board members "Sycophants and Xenophobes", among other things. To pretend like Cosmos' post was a completely gracious one that didn't warrant any type of negative response is, imo, disingenuous. That's my thinking anyway, but feel free to delete this dissenting reply if you feel you must. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

tcf,

Yeah, I know. But the things is, where/when a single poster is posting is pretty meaningless to me. There are many posters who I enjoy, but there's not a single poster who's posts, by themselves, I care about. Take for instance, BBrown. If I follow him, I can see that he made a post about Hack. But who else is involved in that conversation? How active is that conversation? What are the others saying? I used to be able to look at my screen and in literally 3 seconds know the answers to all those questions, and know whether or not it was a conversation I had interest in participating.

Now, I need to "follow" BBrown. Then, I need to periodically look at his posts (or are they spammed to me, which I wouldn't want either)... Then, I would have to look for a topic that interests me. Then, I would have to click on that post. Then, I would have to scroll up and down -- navigating all the posts that aren't actually a part of the sub conversation -- And piecing together which posts are replies to which posts (because you can only see one reply back -- And that's assuming the person who replied actually quoted the post to which he/she is replying).

I just don't have that much time. And even if I did, as much as I enjoy BBrown and his posts, I don't have interest in putting that much effort into message board discussions.

That's really my biggest issue. This new format takes a lot of time and effort. It used to be so easy and now it's tedious.

As you guys know I’ve been around BWI forever. But given the level of intolerance for criticism directed towards the program as well as blatant disregard for the end-user (e.g., cram down of the board reformat) I am compelled to ‘cash in my chips’ and leave. It is unfortunate because our program is at a crossroads and there is much to discuss. I am not sure Franklin is up to the task of resurrecting a proud and storied program. It’s not that I am abandoning the team but rather, this board. It is no longer the virtual water cooler it once was. In parting, I hope you survivors avoid becoming corrupted by the S & X crowd; that is to say, Sycophants and Xenophobes. You know who you are. You shout down every dissenting opinion. Lastly, please be sure to watch games other than the Penn State’s. It gives you a sense of perspective of where we need to go. On the other hand, if you’re satisfied with 6-6 and mocking Pitt then don’t even bother. By all means, stay inured in your own little cocoon as the rest of college football passes by you, a very disturbing subset of otherwise gracious and knowledgeable Penn Staters. Adios. *
The reason you get shouted down is if your posts are as thoughtless as this one is.

I leaving because Tom didn't post the result of the NCAA MBB pick-em and announce to the board that I came in second. I wonder how many trophy points that would have been worth.

My bad Fac. My schedule has been insane since I returned from vaca. I likely would have gotten to it a few days ago, but my limited free time has been occupied by the format change, learning new monitoring tools, etc. I'll try to get to it by early next week.

[Actually Tom, you wouldn't know it was me from the name that was used in the contest. I'm just messing with you.
