Bartlett vs Sokol at WNO

My wish is that Beau enjoys the experience, and has fun. For the past two years, I believe the lower ranked guy has won over half the contested matches at WNO.

Great opportunity, slightly brighter lights than many a HS dual, not quite as bright as states. Young man should enjoy every second.

They love to pick on Jimmy just because of Pyles’s random ranking of him that Jimmy had nothing to do with.

Of course Jimmy finished higher at nationals than uber-recruit (pfp higher than JG I recall) Mike Evans ever did (and the Bull has yet to finish as high)
Maybe we are making fun of Pyles and not Gulibon??

Marinelli kinda did get a tough draw. EVERYONE knew Jojo was under valued as the 32. Subjectivity is important for seeding people! Bull beat him, but it wasn’t easy, and cost him some energy. True freshmen phenoms can bite anyone, and Mekhi has a pretty strong bite, doesn’t he?

I do wonder if Marinelli’s style and mentality isn’t built well for adversity in a multi day grind it out tourney though. He faded on the backside for the 2nd straight year.

When JoJo wrestled the Bull, it was his second match of the day, the Bull's first. Big advantage for the Bull. The Bull lost to Lewis on Friday morning, the JoJo match had nothing to do with that loss. The Bull then loss to Marstellar on the backside, he is of similar build. Maybe the Bull has trouble with guys who are just as strong as he is.

I still say it’s a tough draw. JoJo is not a 32 seed. Mekhi is a brutal matchup for anyone. Never said Alex was the best at the weight class though. David Taylor had a tough draw at worlds too.

Well, to be fair, the point was about #1 ranked recruits and Gulibon was a deserved #1 ranked guy in high school. A valid contribution imo.

But Gulibon does get too much hate because of that flo ranking. If he'd have stayed at 133, I think he ends up a 3x AA.

A

And the refs swallow their whistles and let the boys stall their way to titles
The boys score all of the offensive points while stalling. Heck, the boys take all the shots while stalling.
I have never really figured out this Iowa stall thing. Do not shoot and do not score, just wait for stall points to pike up.
Oh well, to each their own and I much prefer the Cael way versus the TnT way.

It was a tough draw. He got the champ early.
Jo Jo wrestled Marinelli tough, but that had nothing to do with an Iowa kid's Friday morning gas tank. Marinelli lost to Lewis because as a rule of thumb Iowa kids are trained to wrestle for stall calls and not to push the offense. If you let a really good and tough kid hang around too long, some times that will bite you in the ass.

In hindsight it was the tough draw. A fresh AMar was supposed to beat Lewis, just like a fresh Vinny was.
Lets give some credit to Lewis for takin out 1 and 2.
Yes--Lewis is the real deal, no doubt!

I'm not going to die on the "JoJo gassed Marinelli for his Lewis match" hill--that wasn't really my point. It's that Merinelli wrestles a very physical style that works against individual opponents, but it might wear himself out over several days. What mix of that weariness is mental and what is physical is debatable, but I think AM is probably a better dual meet opponent than a tourney opponent.

Fwiw, Marinelli got to Lewis' legs multiple times in that match, but wasn't able to finish (ask Joseph how tough that is). Lewis got to his legs once, off a reattack, and made it count. That's the difference. You can make the argument that Marinelli was too reckless late in the match. He was taken down because he kept taking attacks and Lewis timed one perfectly for a counter.

There have been plenty of hawkeyes you could make that critique of, but Marinelli isn't one of them. That dude fires off a ton of attacks. He's significantly out attacked Joseph in their two matches, especially the second one.

I can not understand Flo's rankings from 7/23. They have Mendez and Serrano first and second at 132 lbs. They are not on the P4P list however the 3rd and 4th ranked 132 lbers are on the P4P list.
