Haines vs Tarsi (Champ 2nd Round)

Collar ties with both men heavy on neck. Just a few half shots thru 1:30. Haines in on a leg, tries to reach across forgo the but doesn't get it. Haines in On another shot. Nothing. 0-0 after one.

Tarsi chooses bottom. Haines riding tough again. Puts in a boot. Has him completely flat. Lots of pressure from top. Armbar. Gets a little high and Tarsi is out with 0:25 to go. Haines was pressuring hard and just got high. I didn't we a stall call but there should have been one.

Haines up and out in 7 secs. 1-1. Haines takes a shot. Nothing. Half shots from both. Haines working a front headlock on the mat and they go OOB. Tarsi in deep in a single. Good scramble from Levi. Stalemate. Haines in on a single, switches to double and takes him down to his back just before time expires. With the riding point, it's 4-1 final.

I caught a little of JLee's 2nd match. I didnt see anything that lead me to believe he's challenging Facundo for the starting spot.

I know Evans lost, but he continues to look like a very solid back-up.

Evans vs Lucier

Evans very aggressive and gets a quick TD. Throws in boots, gets too high, Lucier trying to shake out backdoor and there's a blood stoppage. Lucier get a escape after restart. Headlock and the fall for Evans! 1:52

We need to factor the competition somewhat here.

Dowling placed 4-2-3-1 at PA states, and was 6-1 last year before getting injured and missing the rest of the year. I don't think he's an AA candidate this year, but someone who could pull an upset an nationals.

Tarsi is a 2017 (!) Nazareth grad, now a SR at Hahvahd after 2 RTC years. He had a poor record last year, but only 2 of his losses were > 2 pts, and most were low scoring. The only 2 guys who got offense going on him were Humphreys (16-0 so lots of NF) and Monday (10-3).

Watching Joe Lee's third match, which he is winning 2-0, when I think I finally put my finger on it. Chain wrestling is what he is lacking right now.

Haines vs Zerban (Quarterfinal)

Levi with a deep single early and great finish. Really quick shot and finish. 2-0. Riding hard which has been a theme in all his matches. Gets his hips low and eventually concedes the escape. 2-1. Fights off a hard throw by. Many would have given up 2 I think. 2-1 after one.

Levi to his feet fighting a physical wrestler and gets spladled. How he got out of that spladle I will never know. It's 2 back and that's it. Almost gets a reveral. Now an escape. 3-3. Zerban in On a shot but Haines defends to stalemate with a whizzer. Zerban is a physical wrestler. Late deep shot by Levi but no points. 3-3

Zerban takes bottom. Gets a reversal and then Haines escapes. Tough physical match for the true frshman. Haines in on a single. Gets behind for two but Zerban has a whizzer and his coaches are pissed. Arguing hard. No challenge bricks? Escape by Zerban and it's 6-6 going to SV.

Zerban shoots and Levi tries to counter. Trading shots off reshots. Levi in deep On a single. Shelfs. Zerban somersaults, big scramble and it's a danger two for Zerban. Levi loses 8-6.

Again, I wouldn’t read too much into. We have a bunch of results that show what level he can be at. Would guess there are extenuating circumstances here with either weight cut, illness or training cycle.

Pierce won by Fall in quarters. I'll try to catch his next match. Every time I switch mats, I have to log in all over again and move the feed from 8:30am to live. Then I lost the feed altogether just now watching Cochran vs Correa.

since some of you can somehow watch the Bearcat, was wondering if and how Fernandes the HW from Cornell got hurt? Or after one match was it just decided to MF out the rest of the way, which seems to be common practice now?

I don't think a loss to Zerban has to be explained away by anything and is that out of alignment with Levi's results. Hes got a very close "put it on him" win over Paddy who probably was a top 20ish guy if he was eligible to be ranked. And a win over NQ Cerniglia in which Cerniglia got hurt in the turk off the initial TD. If Levi got by Zerban I figured he would have a real test with Cerniglia this time around.

Zerban is a solid kid who won Fargo in HS I think and won a college tourney last year as a freshman.

D1 wrestling is hard, especially in your first couple of months let alone your first weekend. Levi will get a shot at Zerban or Cerniglia in the consys.
