Bo Bassett thread

IMO, all you have to do is watch Bo compete--something he does at the highest level more often that most. What he does to earn money for himself and his family is his business. I'm surprised people think they're mutually exclusive, but understand the distaste for social media in general--it is ruining our society/culture after all, lol. I'll give Bo a pass on that one though.

Then you should have added "IMO" after you said "...he needs to be THE GUY on his team, not one of the guys" because it was only your OPINION and not a fact about Bo's intention.
This is a message board, 99% of what is posted here is opinion. Did you honestly think I had an inside scoop on the biggest recruiting story in the sport and chose to post it in the middle of a thread?

90% of life is an opinion.

Needing to be the one and only on a team was spencer, i don’t see bo being like that. Spencer was a me me kinda kid IMO, from what i seen thru his hs matches i seen.

Bo is going to go where he feels he can win NCAA AND World/Olympic titles (while in college).

Give the kid some credit. He gets NIL deals because his head is in the right place. Work hard, win, win big and tell people about it.

He's not going to pick the school that gives him the most money, or will give him the most "exposure." That's just a weird, stupid thing to say.

Why do we all go to work? To make money right. If a wrestler can go to college on a full ride and make NiL money why wouldn’t he? For people to say NIL and getting $$$$ isn’t a big deal is absolutely crazy.
This kid makes money with his name, Image and likeness. Not to mention his character and the way he competes. Then add in he is respectful and does a great job representing the lord.

Every breath of every day for for years for Bo is 100% wrestling, and he has visited most of the likely candidates on his list many times in the past, and has talked to the coaches.

Bo most likely knows where he is going right now, and probably has known with a fair degree of confidence for some time.

All IMO of course.

Bo released an inner circle!

He visited Penn State with Sam Herring and Jax Forrest. No mention of other visitors (I know some mentioned Dreshaun Ross might have been there) He worked out with Zain and said he was doing that a lot as Zain prepared for the Olympics, I think keeping Zain around is huge here.

Beau Bartlett was his host (great choice). They went axe throwing and laser tagging and to the Football and Volleyball game. He mentioned obviosuly he knows what it's like to train with the team and coaches but now he is seeing how fun life off the mat is as well. Said it checks all the boxes. (He said the same thing about Iowa minus the distance from home)

He talked extensively with Clay Steadman (the PSU NIL Director) and said he was very energetic.

... and the lack of fun ... and the antiquated training techniques ... and no team titles until next century. He did express that he liked the midget throwing contest after matches. Cael needs to up his game.

Did he go 3 am knee shooting at Iowa?

Wasn't sure where to put this one, but since he talks about Bo I decided to put it here. Mod, if you can think of a better place, please move it over. Recruiting thread?

There isn't much about what this guy says I can agree with. A lot of bad takes in this video IMHO.
For an unknown reason, I recently watched him watch DT’s match vs Ghasempour, and he literally congratulated himself for his incredible eye in watching wrestling when identifying when Ghasempour broke. 😂 Like anyone who follows the sport couldn’t do the same. I suppose we ought to be grateful an MMA “star” pays so much attention to the sport but dude has one heckuva ego.

The money these kids will generate with NIL no matter where they go will be mind boggling.. They are setting themselves up for a worry free life. A big part of this will be going where they will be successful in wrestling. College national championships, world and olympics..
They will be a big fish in a big pond.

yep, on a whole, what do you think? The top ~20% will get something sizeable? the other 80% something little - across the Div1 wrestling spectrum

The amount of NIL money Bassett is going to generate I have no issue with. He has made it a priority to take advantage of the opportunities to use social media to market himself. Obviously, his impressive wrestling accomplishments and the pace he wrestles at makes him popular. Basically he is busting his ass to make money. That is a far cry from just handing an athlete a bag of cash.

Most athletes that have been handed a bag of cash have spent a long time busting their ass. Many more have busted their ass and never see a dime.
There is a difference between actually making money off of your Name, Image and Likeness than it is just being handed a bag of cash. Bassett busts his ass to make his name, image and likeness more recognizable and thus more marketable. Which was the intent of NIL.

Chael talks just to talk sometimes. Things I took from this video are once again Hutcherson finishing 4th at that weight is crazy. Chael is worried about Bassett not having success in college is ridiculous.

This kid crushes in on the mat and on social media. He has fans from his wrestling, but also from his character, high pace and approach. Like stated above why not take advantage of this while you can. Wrestling doesn’t have the NFL, NBA or MLB to look forward to big pay days.

Bassetts wrestling is really good but his Name, Image and likeness has to be just as appealing to programs. He is an entrepreneur at 17. I could see college throwing him a large bag knowing it will pay for itself

Totally agree. Even for the ones that don't like Bassett, they still tune in to watch him and hope he loses. Either way, people are watching him.

The NIL marketing that Bo is doing on SM is actually far more valuable because it is not dependent on anyone else to give it to you.

Born July 2005 per google.
Don't think that is accurate. That birthday (July 2005) would mean Bassett is currently 19 years old as a HS junior, and he would be 21 years old as a freshman in college. That would be very old for his class.

Per the internet sources I've seen, Bassett was born in the first half of 2007. Assuming that is accurate, Bassett is currently 17, in the first part of his junior year in HS. Further assuming that he starts college in Fall 2026, he will be 19 at that time, and turn 20 in the spring semester of his freshman year win college. That would make Bassett a year older than the typical college freshman (suggesting he was held back in school for 1 year at some point), but nothing terribly abnormal.

Do a search. Other sources say July 2005. The internet has conflicting info.

Uh, yeah, I did a search, as indicated in my post. Agree there is conflicting info, also as acknowledged in my post.

Can't say for certain which source is accurate and which isn't, but a birthday for Bassett of early 2007 seems far more likely to me than a birthday of July 2005. As stated previously, a birthdate of July 2005 would mean that Bassett turned 19 before his junior year in HS, which just seems ridiculous.

Bassett is 18 now. Born in 2006 and not in 2005 or 2007. This kid has 44 pages of posts and people still bringing up or questioning his age. Surprised no one asks how old Melvin Miller is? He wrestled Louie Gill in PJW state finals back in 2019. Gill graduated HS last year, Miller is a sophomore this year. Makes no difference to me, just crazy how much people worry about Basset’s age.

I know his age, you're right it doesn't matter that is why I didn't post it. Why does it bother you that it bothers people?

I don't necessarily agree with it because it wasn't necessary, I don't care because it does not affect my life.
