Bo Bassett thread

Uh, yeah, I did a search, as indicated in my post. Agree there is conflicting info, also as acknowledged in my post.

Can't say for certain which source is accurate and which isn't, but a birthday for Bassett of early 2007 seems far more likely to me than a birthday of July 2005. As stated previously, a birthdate of July 2005 would mean that Bassett turned 19 before his junior year in HS, which just seems ridiculous.
So what you guys are trying to say is: Bo Bassett is really a Dominican baseball player.

Bassett is 18 now. Born in 2006 and not in 2005 or 2007. This kid has 44 pages of posts and people still bringing up or questioning his age. Surprised no one asks how old Melvin Miller is? He wrestled Louie Gill in PJW state finals back in 2019. Gill graduated HS last year, Miller is a sophomore this year. Makes no difference to me, just crazy how much people worry about Basset’s age.
Thanks for the info. Assuming your info is correct, kind of interesting that the sources I found on the internet about Bassett's were both inaccurate.

I doubt most folks "worry" about Bassett's age, but it may be a matter of interest in this forum (an internet message board about college wrestling). Similar to how this board noted that Daton Fix turned 26 years old just prior to the 2024 NCAA tourney, or that Nelson Brands will be 26 in Feb 2025.

No problem. I was just trying to give some information, and I do understand what you are saying.

I read somewhere Bo was 17 or just turned 18 during the U20 worlds. He was held back like a lot of really good kids.
To me it’s not an issue and none of my business. Our newest recruits next year: Perry and Desmond are 19 years old in their senior year. Seems like jealous people just try to find something on the best kids.

Either that, or (much more likely), you're projecting your jealousy onto others.

Who cares how old Bassett is. Do people not realize that 90% of the top kids in the country are held back and especially since Covid. Desmond is 19 Perry is 19 and so many more elite kids. Who gives a damn. Just wrestle.

This is a message board, 99% of what is posted here is opinion. Did you honestly think I had an inside scoop on the biggest recruiting story in the sport and chose to post it in the middle of a thread?
I can’t make it to PSU this weekend for Drexel, but, I do have time with 3 PSU friends to take in the VT-Missouri tilt. Bo Bassett will also be at VT Friday so we’ll be on our best behavior…. but, definitely rocking our PSU wrestling gear. Looking forward to seeing KOT even though his opponent is meh.

I’m curious about the “face of the program” or “wants to be the Man”, or “go somewhere to change a program” narratives floating out there.

How much of these narratives are actually based in fact, and from specific things that Bassett has said? How much is it pure speculation on message boards or podcasts from people trying to predict or get an inkling of where he might attend?

It is amazing how many adults need to project their anxieties over where a kid is going to go to college.

It's all just made up, but if people didn't just make stuff up, we wouldn't have much to talk in the off-season which is kinda fun to do. 🤼‍♀️🤷‍♂️

Some combination of this + wishful thinking.

And the wishful thinkers include some PSU fans who dislike Bassett's self-promotion and want him going elsewhere -- including Iowa so there's an excuse to cheer against him.

I believe most PSU fans want to see him in the blue and white.

As bad as it is to relive your misspent youth vicariously through your own kids (some end up like Jimmy Piersall).

Imagine doing it through kids you aren't related to and you don't know and haven't even met.

It used to be kids idolized adults in sports; now adults idolize kids in sports.

Heck Anthony Echemendia is 32, isn't he? ;-)

Don’t really believe there a very many PSU fans wishing Bassett going any other place. I believe most PSU fans want to see him in the blue and white. Those that do are trolls or have a low understanding of quality wrestling.
Not sure why we wouldn’t want Bo. We do

Sam Herring, his 138lb teammate, just committed to PSU. He's a junior at McCort, and the highest ranked JR in the 138lb rankings.

Not suggesting that's going to influence where Bassett goes but I have to imagine the two are good friends and training partners.

Not relevant. I read on good authority that Owen McMullen will be the main influence on Bassett AND Jax' decisions.😉 Plus, Sam is just a room guy - or a high recruit if he AAs. One or the other. 😎😉😎

There’s no reason we can’t have this figured out by at least page 96. 😆

No, no, no! HR, or is it GIAPet, or maybe it is Go Iowa Awesome. Whatever it is, that isn't where you go for wrestling insight. That is where you go to read what "delusional" and " not so bright" think stalling is and get a good laugh.

By a room guy, do you think the goofs on HR realize Bearclaw is an example of a PSU room guy?

Herring might have been more than that, if only he had better judgment and followed McMullen.
