Bo Bassett thread

If Bassett ends up at 157 it's going to be tough for him to make the lineup. The only thing I can see working is Duke goes 157 next year, MM bumps to 174 for his senior year and Duke slotting in at 165. Either way Kasak is either going to be the best backup of all time or he'll have to transfer.

On the other hand with all of the grayshirts, redshirts, Olympic redshirts and inevitable injuries I'm sure they'll find a way. It's just that for years we've been talking about a logjam but there has never been anything close to this much talent for so few spots.

It will work itself out, just like Mesenbrink and Haines both have a slot. Meanwhile, they will both push each other to get better each day.

The same came be said about Jax and Blaze.

I’m sure NIL is part of his decision, but “NIL” for Bo is different than most people because he’s already built up his own media brand, so “maximizing NIL” for him is more like “where his own brand is worth the most” rather than “whose donors offer the biggest bag”.

Is your brand worth more as this...?

or this...?

Came to say this. It’s coming down to PSU & UPJ. I was sure PSU was in the lead, but now I’m not so sure.
Let's play that out. Bo going to UPJ would be super interesting. He would certainly be the face of the program. He would bring along a few others (bro and cousins). The mojo he would get would enhance his NIL earning. No big bag from tOSU, but maybe he doesn't care/not most important as he has the NIL bag and "face of the program." He still could take the 90 minute drive to State College from UPJ (I drive 90 minutes to work every day) to work out at the NLWC. I am sure they would allow and RTCs are there to support any National team member/candidate. Might be something here...

Added bonus, heads would explode in Iowa City and Columbus. Just satisfying smirks in State College

Why do u think Bo’s more likely to go to UPJ over Oklahoma state or Ohio state? Or is this what you are hoping for bc best case scenario for PSU if he did… Jw how ur so confident.

He's as confident as you were about Rutgers beating NC State 22-9. ;)

How did Kasak make his way to the Bassett thread? I hope any comparisons of who would actually win between the two is a joke right? Kasak was 3rd as a true freshman, he is a title contender for the next 3 years.

But for lineup purposes, in all likelihood, Tyler will be 4 and out, which is by 2027, which would coincide with Bassett's redshirt year if he were to pick PSU, same with SVN. Whether Bassett is a 149 or 157, there is a spot here for him here with a redshirt.

2025:
149 - SVN
157 - Kasak
165 - MM

2026:
149 - SVN
157 - Kasak (Duke RS)
165 - MM

2027, 2 options
149 - SVN (Bassett RS)
157 - Duke (Kasak RS)
165 - MM
174 - Asher

149 - SVN
157- Kasak
165 - Duke
174 - MM (whether Asher greyshirts or not like Hayden will likely determine if he gets 4 NCAAs, which I don't think is Asher's primary concern anyways)

2028
157 - Bassett
165 - Duke
174 - Asher

Don't forget we have a round of Olympic Redshirts to preserve eligibility in 2028 also

Sealey? Ryder? Henckel? They're all going to be 165-174 in there, too.

Ryder I think will be 184 (said he doesn't like cutting a lot)

Henckel, I see growing to 184 with his frame and being 170 already. Unfortunately, someone has to be the odd man out and my lineup posts are who I think will ultimately win the spot (and I think Asher's ceiling is very very high) but hey, what do I actually know?

Looks good but I'm starting to worry about 2030 and 2031.

PS - that is, if I am still alive by then.

Joe Sealy not cracking your lineup?

Nick only got 5th his freshman year. Roman 7th.
AB was the 3 seed (that I think was going to win obviously) in 2020 but he was 1 year removed from HS (greyshirted at OTC)

Mark obviously won but yes yes all the "he was old for his grade"

Tyler was Cadet Eligible after his junior year so he's young for his grade actually.

In his article, Bo mentioned Cody in homed him (and guessing his entire family) on Monday and Nick followed up by attending their dual yesterday.

Our coaches seem all in despite what some think about "fit" on this board. Glad they're in charge and not the fans.
I echo this, why would we not be all in on him and Forest. Honestly two of the best PA HS wrestler I ever witnessed. Why let them slip through the crack to another program. Two visits in one week tells me Cael and the boys agree.
Everyone in the PSU lineup get lots of love, but those PA boys get even more. (Zain, Levi, Wright)

I think the longer they wait, the more it could favor PSU. Official Visits are always fun and meant to give the euphoria feeling and it's often why kids commit right after. But it's just that, a fun weekend party.

These McCort kids seem to love just being at home and spending time close to their family and when they're home, they realize how easy it is to just get up to Penn State. Bo has explicitly even said "distance" is something he thinks about (though not a deal breaker) and it's why UPJ is on the list still.

Oh in addition to the other things Penn State has to offer wrestling wise ...

If Bassett and Kasak end up at the same weight, I’m picking Kasak.

Worse case, in the NIL era, you stay all in on them to drive up the price an Ohio State has to pay.

There's no fit issue at all that I see. On the mat, PSU needs a 149 after SVN finishes up (assuming Blaze is 141), and Bo seems like a grounded, very religious kid like almost everyone else in the program. So he has an ostentatious social media presence, so what? So does Starocci, but there was never a culture fit issue with him because of it (and off SM, he is the same kind of grounded, deeply religious kid as the rest of the team, too...).

We absolutely should be recruiting both of them hard. And we are.

The 2nd paragraph stumps me. If it means the coaches, they don't play favorites. If it means the fans, well, we have about 30 pages of how Kasak will transfer. Plus, going back further: Gulibon, the Altons, even Ed Ruth took some lumps from the fans. And Q was hardly immune to it either.

It's a nice sentiment, but the reality is: being a PA wrestler in the PSU lineup can be a double-edged sword.
