BTS Results and Discussion Thread

Enjoyed the event for exactly what it was. Didn't expect every bout to be super-competitive.

Yianni's bout was a highlight however.

DT's injury, hopefully, isn't serious.

As far as earlier discussion in this thread about NCAA Qualifiers to the WTT's, I'm assuming those "between" weights will have to choose, though for most it's really not much of a choice.

125: Almost all would go 57kg (125.66 lbs) Examples: Mueller, Arujau, S. Lee
133: Almost all would go 61kg (134.48 lbs) Examples: Gomez, Suriano, Fausz moved up from 125
141: Suspect almost all would go 65kg (143.30 lbs) Examples: Domihalis, McKee, Demas, Eierman, Storr
149: First real tweener weight, most would go 70kg (154.32 lb) Examples: Berge, Ashnault
157: Closer to 70kg (154.32 lbs) than 74kg (163.14), so most will go 70kg. Examples: Deakin, Hidlay, Nolf, Pantaleo
165: Small cut to 74 kg (163.14 lbs), so most would go 74kg. Examples: M. Lewis, Massa, exception is Marsteller, who went up to 79kg (174.17 lbs)
174: Right on 79kg (174.17 lbs), all would go there. Examples: McFadden, Z. Valencia, M. Finesilver, Hall, Harvey
184: Almost all would go up to 86kg (189.60 lbs), vs going down 10 pounds to 79kg (174.17 lbs) Examples: Martin, Foster, Jackson
197: Almost all would go to 92kg (202.83 lbs) Examples: Nickal, Brunner, Moore, Warner
285: Somewhat a tweener weight, but only for the lightest of NCAA 285's (Example: Cassar). Almost all will go 125kg (275.58 lbs) Examples: Hemida, Steveson, White, Orndorff

Once again, the heavyweights are more fun to watch than Suriano. Colon is capable of some fireworks, but Suriano is content with the one takedown matches.

My impressions from attending last night.

Seda/Balion - Entertaining match. Bailon was much more advanced in technique and wasn't afraid to let it fly. Good opener.

Aragona/Busiello - More a reflection of Busiello's glaring weakness than Aragona's ability. Warning signs with Busiello have been getting more clear over the past couple of years - mediocre on his feet with terrible defense. His only real strength seems to be top position in folkstyle and since they weren't doing that last night, the result was predictable. I'll be surprised to see Busiello wrestle at ASU. Lots of studs coming in with him around his weight.

Pic/Mueller - Pic was outclassed. Pure and simple.

Velte/Morais - Velte seems to be on the upswing in form. It's, I think, the third time I've seen her wrestle in person and this was her best showing.

Green/AA - Typical Green effort. Get ahead and then stop wrestling. I always wonder what he could do if he upped his effort level.

Snyder/Randhawa - Mismatch but at least Randhawa wrestled.

Gwiz/White - When you think of the format, the only way the NCAA guys could hang in would be to not wrestle as much as possible. To White's credit, he didn't do that. Gwiz is better. No shock. It was a fun match to watch.

Leathers/Weicker - Good competitive match. The size difference ruled. But otherwise, two evenly-matched competitors. For the most part, the women's matches in the Final X events in State College and Bethlehem last summer were more entertaining than the men's. This one was not quite at that level, but still good.

Colon/Suriano - Say what you will about Suriano, he can take any matchup and turn it into a match that makes you want to stab your eyes out. Final X in Bethlehem with Colon/Garrett was probably the highlight of the two events I attended last summer. Last night was torture. Interestingly, there were two eye pokes during the night - by Suriano and AA.

Taylor/Foster - That sucked.

Cox/Brucki - Entertaining if one-sided.

Punia/Yianni - Great match. I'm not sure about the scoring, which seemed to be an issue for Punia also, but it was a really fun, competitive match. Since these were exhibitions, it was good to see how many wrestlers didn't retreat into a shell.

Burroughs/Askren - However long it's been that Askren hasn't been wrestling freestyle at this level, it was pretty obvious he was totally unprepared.

Overall, the event was a shitshow. The 6:00 start time wound up being 7:00. The could have been doing the "entertainment" and presentations from 6-7pm while nothing was happening and condensed the wrestling. So much dead time if you were in attendance. The format was not that great but I'm thinking a USA/World format might be a good one to mine going forward. Other years, they did a USA/other country format which was a lot better, imo.

I was in the middle of Rutgers fans, who largely had little interest in the proceedings unless one of "theirs" was wrestling.

Funniest moment of the night was when Bo came out for presentations and was announced. A young Rutgers fan yelled out "pussy" at Bo. An older woman sitting near him (maybe his mom) said to him "maybe you should go wrestle him". Lol.

I’d say at this point—and only because Cael isn’t necessarily the card holder like he is for PSU—no news is not good news in terms of DTs knee. Apparently Foster said in a post match interview that he heard it pop. We may never hear details, but I’d have to think if it was relatively minor, we would have heard that by now.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this sentiment. Never good to hear a pop.
