Candid coaches. Overated/underrated.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...ated-and-underrated-college-football-coaches/

"When [Franklin] got the Penn State job, I thought, 'Man, he's a good marketer.' He did a nice job with that. It'll be interesting without Saquon [Barkley]. He's underrated. He turns a lot of no[-gain] plays into 60-yard touchdowns."

I am pissed that I gave that a click. James Franklin is a damn good coach, I don’t give a crap what some click-bait poll says. I’ll keep Franklin, you can have your Harbaugh’s, Meyer’s, Jimbo Fisher’s, Dantonio’s, Chip Kelly’s, etc

There are 65 P5 football jobs in the country. If you think that anyone who gets to that level is a hay seed, think again.

Well to be honest, there is a hayseed coaching at another school in Pa just west of us.

Look at the numbers (percentages) ..... 20, 20, 13, 13, "5 other coaches w/ an aggregate 34."

If you do the math ..... that means all of 15 coaches answered the "overrated question." 15, that's it. And CJF got 3 of those 15 votes.

The "underrated question" ... more coaches thought that was a safe question. It appears that, per the numbers, 26 coaches answered that one.

I wouldn't take this poll too seriously.

Some D1 HFCs...... some recent, and some who STILL HAVE JOBS:

Ed Orgeron
Lovie Smith
Tim Beckmann
Kyle Flood
Steve Sarkisian
Turner Gill
Randy Edsall
Pat Narduzzi
Butch Jones
Ron Zook
Paul Pasquiloni
Etc
Sorry, if you labored for a lifetime as a coach, you'd have given practically anything for the shot these guys had.

Okay, I'll ask the dumb question: overrated or underrated by whom? In order to say that a particular coach falls in either category there has to be a baseline against which the comparison is made?

So given that football coaches as a group aren't the most particularly intellectually astute, what we have is the overrated/underrated questions serving as surrogates for:

a. Which coaches do you like the most/least?

b. By which coaches do you feel the most/least threatened?

c. Which coach's behavior make you look the most/least like a Neanderthal?

I am sure many would have......

Doesn’t have anything to do with my thinking many of them are dolts, with no meaningful skills that would surpass the average gym teacher
Not to disparage “gym teachers” - who are honorably employed.
I just don’t think it makes a whole lot of sense to pay a “gym teacher” $1,000,000+ per year - - - and them delude oneself into thinking they are “special”...... all one has to do is look around at so many of the assclowns who ARE in that profession (that list could start w Zach Smith :) ....... and go on for a long, long, long time)
Don't know why you pick on football coaches when there are better examples of "dolts" in high offices like POTUS and President of PSU.

When people are taking shots at you and telling people you are "overrated" they are scared of you. These guys couldn't project any harder if they tried.

If you had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country every year [you'd win like Nick Saban]," an anonymous coach told Chip Patterson of CBSSports.com. "He shows up at every single game with a better roster than the teams he's playing."

"If you count cheating and getting the best players in the country as part of running a program, he's the best in the country," the coach added. "It's like saying an NFL coach is the best coach in the league if he gets 25 first-round picks every year."

This coach has had his ass beat by Saban multiple times.... that much I can gather.

Maybe because football coaches make more than POTUS and Indiana Fats.
Yep, I remember Babe Ruth's comment. However, POTUS literally has control over the well being of hundreds of millions of people.

Well, if three of the fifteen responding to the overrated question said Franklin, you can bet the farm that two of them were named Dantonio and Narduzzi.

ATS Records

Taggart 59-36-1
Franklin 47-34-1

ATS is a sign of how you fare compared to the betting public perception. This is a great indicator of being underrated. Poor evaluations by the polled coaches.

It's not abundantly clear if Ruth ever made that comment. If he did, the year was 1932 and the president was Herbert Hoover. Hard to argue the Babe's point. Using that as a benchmark, I'll concede your point re Indiana Fats. In the interest of decorum, I'll not comment on the current POTUS.

Knock yourself out.

The topic at hand was “football coaches”, so that’s what I was responding about.

But maybe, at some point, I will be so moved as to provide a candid critique of the work of the PSU President (and other University leadership).

:)
I'll wait patiently at the foot of the mountain.

I think this polll shows there are still a lot of football coaches with Zach Smith level meatheadedness who couldn’t spell O-H-I-O if you spotted them the H and the I.

Narduzzi, I'd bet money he is one of the three. He seems the personality type who would LOVE an opportunity like "an anonymous survey where I get to take pot-shots at my competition."

Dantonio --- he seems more like the type who would take shots at Jim Harbaugh (Dantonio views JH as enemy #1, everyone else is far back in the rear-view mirror on the enemy list) in public. Dantonio has no use for anonymity. :D:D:D

Doesn't look like recruits believe JF is overrated. Who cares what anonymous coaches think.

Looks like they must have let Pat Narduzzi vote 5 times. Seriously, Franklin is underrated if anything. The guy has been incredible

It is funny how every program that does well "cheats," except for the team you root for. If they have proof of cheating, why don't they pass it along.

Would love to see how all these other coaches would have done given the hand Franklin was handed. What he has done is nothing short of remarkable.

Oh yeah. And who might this chattel be? It aint me. Is it you, snowflake? Last I checked this was a "free country." You know, as in you're free to come and go as you please. If he's so objectionable then go try Putin or Xi on for size. LMFAO!

Is Franklin even highly regarded? I never see anyone mention him among the best college coaches. Surprised to see him come up as overrated.

Maybe it's just coaches who think he didn't deserve the success he's had the past two years and I would actually agree with that. Lots of good luck during the past two seasons. Especially 2016. I believe that he will cement himself as elite over the next few.
