Does Tom Brands make his wrestlers better?

It was no doubt the way you approached the topic that got you laughed/kicked off the board. Always has been that way with you.

I am going to throw this out there. Do the Brand’s brothers make their recruits better? I have watched incoming freshmen come to Penn State under Cael’s tutelage and have seen them go from good to great. Zain, Bo, and Jason Nolf are the obvious, Quentin and James English are to be included, but I also watched the evolvement of a guy like Anthony Cassar. I watch Iowa wrestling and it appears to me that Spencer Lee is going to continue to be the world class wrester that he is, without anything Tom Brands can teach him. Austin DeSanto is going to do whatever he wants to do without any stamp or input from Tom Brands. Kaleb Young came to Iowa as a guy that was supposed to compete for a national championship. He is still not a top three. All three PA wrestlers. I watch Alex Marinelli and here is a guy that in my opinion has moved up only a couple of positions from the time he arrived at Ames. I don’t see Marinelli winning an NCAA championship. My question is this; what does Tom Brands and his coaching staff do to make a terrific high school recruit into a national contender?
Do you still post here? Wanted to tell you I can relate. You made a post, everyone... Hawk and PSU fans alike poke fun at you and then a few years later you are proven right all along. If you don't post here anymore let me give you some advice...change your stance on that. Ya gotta trust me on this but playing the "long game" is so much more fun. And if your goal is to just make Hawk fans look dumb, it's always the most fulfilling...even if a few PSU fans end up becoming collateral damage.

Exactly! Ban the clown already.
I know I don’t speak for everyone else on this forum, but I don’t really have a problem with Turk. Like several thousand other people, he’s a frustrated Iowa fan. And they have good reason to be frustrated. At one point in time, they had the greatest wrestling coach in the country leading teams to multiple national championships. But even Gable must follow the arrow of time so it was inevitable that the leadership of the Hawk program would pass to new coaches. Unfortunately, the level of expectations was very high and has not been met since Gable stepped down. On top of that, their primary home state rival decided he could do better by pursuing a different opportunity. The result is that the Hawks are no longer in the driver’s seat and they are puzzled about what is the best direction to take. Hence the frustration.

Because we are the Penn State forum, it’s only natural that some of the frustrated Hawk fans will wander over here. I don’t hold that against them. My wife gets upset with me when I am working on something around the house and let loose with an expletive or throw an inanimate object at the ground out of frustration. I always remind her that I really haven’t caused any harm and all I’m really doing is venting. I don’t see Turk doing anything differently.

You're missing some key information here

Unfortunately turk(wildsucks a d) gets a shout out from me, because he took forum Fandom too far and did and still does poke fun of a poster whose child commited suicide.

Then it's gotta be Ethen Lofthouse. Who else is left in that time period?

1. Started school fall 2010
2. Joined HR Oct 2010
3. Was better than most but not the best. 5th and 7th at Nationals
4. Graduated 2015.
5. Starts posting on HR 2016
6. States that he wrestled 174
7. He is from Utah and recruited by Cael
I'm quite happy to let that poster remain anonymous, because that's what he says he wants. Also, why do we need to know? And if we unmask him, by his own admission he probably stops posting.

In any case: if Iowa wrestlers join HR/GIA while on the active roster, that's a gigantic red flag for that program. Would go a long way toward explaining postseason underachievement.

No he doesn't. He crossed a line . It was at the expense of your son’s death. Not the same as your exploits on HR. He is a piece of SH I +.
@JST - I don’t know what happened and I sure don’t want you to feel like you have to rehash it here. FYI - I went through something very similar about 20 years ago and it caused my marriage to fall apart. So whatever happened, you have my prayers and complete sympathy.

@horraybeer: Ok I get your point. I haven’t kept up with everything on this forum. I will say that I think most of the people posting here are a great bunch of people. The only person I have met live is 1AA who hails from Eastern WA. I wish I could meet everyone else someday.

@el jefe: Based on some things you have posted, I think it’s possible that we both work for the same company.

Ok let’s get back to our favorite topic of Hawk bashing! 😁

It will come out regardless of what we say. I've seen his old posts from 2016. The "old guard" at HR (inner circle) know exactly who he is. His recent posts are definitely in support of change. Not small change but large change.

If we do, we'd have to trade stories sometime. It's a big place with great people, great products, and interesting and fun work. Also lots of corporate stupidity.

That's an oxymoron in all corporate structures. That said, if you ever leave that environment you'll realize you learned a lot more than most do and what you thought was mundane is life altering for most in business.

Don't know how long you've been around Silver but Vodka use to post here. Posts where PSU cheats via steroids, slush fund, over pays for camps and other things. Claims he called multiple compliance offices to tell them what ever. He went off one day with a f bomb tirade (crazy Karen stuff) and got banned. He is a cancer to HR and will just keep running into the wall over and over.
Hard head makes a soft ass

Hmmm. Do you by chance work with a Penn State alum named Jim Sturges?

I get that ... but I was being polite and hiding details that might get my employer identified.

Certainly there is a lot of mundane stupidity that sometimes is frustrating but mostly we just laugh off. And God knows there are a ton of stories there.

But I also meant stupidity that has real, life-altering effects on our customers and/or the public. And unfortunately we have a lot of that too.

I don't think so. I've never heard of him, but we have a few thousand at my site plus over 100k elsewhere. There is no Jim Sturges in our corporate directory, unless James/Jim is his middle name or a nickname.

I've been around a long time now. I travel the boards for my daily fun. I'm not frustrated with anything really. Just cruising along doing my thing 😎

Ok - that’s enough to tell me we’re not working for the same employer. Bummer- I was hoping we could trade thoughts next week via instant messaging on our network. I do hope we get a chance to meet sometime.
