Just picked up* his first District title as a sophomore at 152 pounds. Went 5-2, 15-3, 9-3 in his 3 matches. Similar to his brother a very good raw athlete who could probably do with some better coaching.

He'll meet either Patrick of Ligonier Valley, or Biddle of Central, for the state championship, most likely, although there is one kid outside of those three who could upset the whole apple cart.

District 3 is an excellent district. More difficult than district 11, which of course has a school that cheats.

And none of the schools in D3 cheat? You know this how or did you just make it up? Plus, it is VERY debatable that D3 is better than D11 and per capita D11 is DEFINITELY better.

Also, Ruth won't be coming to PSU.

Yes, Nazereth and Beca are better than district 3. And yes, Beca cheats. As an overall district, 3 is tougher than 11.

Also, you have no clue about where Ruth is going to college.

D3 better than D7 and D11? Interesting.

Also, D3 AA is not nearly as good as D3 AAA. When you get into AA, D3 is not better or not significantly better than D4, D6, D7, D11, maybe D1.

To narrow it down to Ruth's weight: D3 is probably the 4th best district in PA AA 152. After Ruth, the next best D3 guy is ranked #14. D6 has 2 of the top 5 plus the #9 guy. D4 has 4 in the top 12, including #4. D11 has 2 in the top 7.

Why you say he will not be coming to PSU ? I do know his his brother Ed is pushing for PSU.....Edmond would be an OUTSTANDING pick up !!!!

You don't think Big Ed is pushing for Little Ed to join him in Tempe? Really?

Also, maybe NoVa has a different reason, but I can think of two really good reasons he won't be coming to PSU: the current roster and the known commitments at his weight range.

El - I understand your point about the roster. He is only a Soph and like Ed is going to get VERY VERY good....

Guys DO NOT get that much better at all out at Ariz State....Not everyone but the majority in fact go backward....Ed knows that his younger brother would be coached by the best in the country by far at PSU....

Ed isn't at Sunkist Kids anymore so that's meaningless. He's living in Albuquerque and training with Jackson-Wink full time. Also, give me D7, D11 and maybe D4 over D3.

Thanks for the update -- forgot about Ed moving.

Though it was fun to once again see Spyker claim with no evidence that Arizona State guys regress.

And what would you know of Arizona State? Been there? I have, and actually have a degree from there. People don't go backwards. Just stop your insanity today.

Okay i got this one....Look at all the guys they have recruited and got.....Not all but the majority....Enough said. lol

Great glad to hear he is not there anymore..Would love to get his brother since i strongly agree he is only going to get better then even our elites in the Soph class...That is exactly what Ed did...Past guys up and won National Titles....We should be fighting hard for him now....IMO

I would like to cast another vote for D3 AA. Not because it's the best, because I wouldn't say so, but because that's home.

Small facts. In 1973, the last year of single-class PIAA championships, D3 had 16 of the 48 placewinners (a full 1/3). It also had 7 finalists of the 24 but only two champs. Lower Dauphin rolled out 3 straight guys in the finals (Mutek at 138, Stauffer at 145 and Neiswinder at 155, forgive me if I don't have their names 100% correct, but I'm going from memory) but they all lost. Larry Kepp lost to Jimmy Carr in Carr's, I believe, last high school season in PA after representing the USA in the 1972 Olympics. Eric Carr of Cumberland Valley won 133 and Don McCorkle of Hershey (and later Lehigh) won 185. My old brain forgets the 7th finalist from D3 that year. But it was a pretty impressive display of dominance for one district.

Oh, it came to me a few minutes later, Greg Duke of Manheim Township at 98. We were robbed of a sixth Duke/John Malles of Hempfield (D3) matchup of the season (dual meet, Christmas tournament and finals of sectionals, districts and regionals prior to states) when Malles was injured while holding a big lead in the semis and eventually lost in OT.

what HS has the most State Champs in Pa history? (I'm not looking it up... but I'm pretty sure the school I'm referring to in District 9 is top 3 if not the top...

It would be very said not to land Ed Ruth who is a legend of PSU wrestling younger brother who will be just as good as Ed....Book it !!!!,,,That would be like a Thorn brother not going to Minn....

The old "Jaffa Mosque" in Altoona, lmao. Or how about the "Farm Show Arena", where they once held states? Vague smell of cow patties.

Would LOVE to see it come back to Rec Hall, but you know, "PIAA", and politics and money.

D3 is not the best district in PA. there was a window where they might have been the best, but it was brief, and certainly not true today.

A D3 v D11 match would certainly be fun.
The comparison of Districts is tough to do. District 7 has about 120 schools, District 9 comes in with about 90 schools and District 11 comes in with roughly 50 schools. It's not even close by per capita where the strongest area of PA wrestling is concentrated. In District 11 most of talent is in 20 mile radius in Northampton County. It use to be even better. I would think District 11 might get 5 AAA state champs this year after having 7 last year.

Correction to my statement, I meant District 3 has 90 schools not District 9

I would be curious about which school had the highest number of placers at states. I would have guessed Easton but that would be from a small window when I wrestled

...I don't know about placers but I think Clearfield still has the most champs over the years...
...much like Okie State has the most NCAA team titles because they earned so many in the early years of the sport...think 1930 - 1970...

yep, Pataky bringing up the rear (one of the last three)

D11 had 3 NCAA National Champs in the same year!!! Cuvo, Santoro and Turner circa mid 80s.
