Final X

Remind me again who failed to qualify the weight for the Olympics at the last chance qualifier last May.
I am a huge fan of PSU and NLWC but I would not play that card as there is a really strong response to be made to your statement.

Reactions: Psalm 1 guy
For years I’ve thought Spencer would be the winner of the US World/Olympic team spot whenever he decided to go. Not anymore. Gilman is the best 57 in the world. Spencer is a hobbled shell of what he could have been.

JO needs to hang it up. It is mind boggling to watch him “wrestle”. The guy does absolutely nothing for 3 matches and then complains about politics. As long as he’s been on the circuit he still hasn’t figured out that he needs to try to score more.

I have a hate-love relationship with Gilman. I used to hate him, now I love him.

It's not often that you see a transformation like this in sports. Usually, from the time a guy enters the spotlight, he's the same guy, until his career is over, be it brash, humble, cocky, or quiet. Gilman was brash, gotten better at wrestling, which would ordinarily make a brash guy brasher, but he has gone the other way, letting his wrestling do the talking.

I’m a big Zain fan. But giving Zain a point for JO pushing on him as Zain stood out of bounds without letting go of JO’s leg was at least questionable. Ditto on the grounding call with a min to go.

The caution point was not just questionable, it was wrong. But that doesn’t override the fact that Oliver spent most of the 18 minutes on the mat doing absolutely nothing. He could have won that series if he wanted to wrestle. But when his entire style is based off of doing as little as possible to win, that caution point becomes a big deal. It’s on him

It was the repeated pushes to the face I think. Don't put yourself in that position. Willie tweeted about it. Don't complain, just score points to avoid losing by wishy washy calls.

It took me a couple of months to see Gilman's demeanor in a NLWC singlet if I was all in. After seeing him take some tough late in the matches losses and not complaining had me in his corner. What a sweet change on and off the mat.

I'm now hoping Thomas has a chance to wrestle Spencer before he ages out of his prime. I know Thomas is ready.

Personally, I think all the talk about Spencer with regard to reigning world champ Thomas Gilman is a little bit disrespectful. I know Lee was/maybe still is one of the better senior level prospects we’ve ever seen. But to date, Spencer has won one domestic senior level event. Thomas has won at every level for years now. I believe he’s the best in the world, and the only person I’m excited to see him lock horns with in the near future is Uguev, who already knows he doesn’t want that smoke.

If you watch the sequence, JO grabs his head well after they’re OOB which is why Zain holds on and JO starts to face mush him. Questionable, maybe, but even so I think there’s a 99 percent chance Zain wins 3-2 and doesn’t give up the last caution that he did. Wasn’t like JO was close to the tying takedown or even a step out.

For all we know, Spencer's international wrestling career might end before Gilman's.

I think it's no coincidence that we see so few Iowa alums at the Senior level.

It's not often that you see a transformation like this in anonymous wrestling forums. Usually, from the time a guy enters the spotlight, he's the same guy, until his career is over, be it brash, humble, cocky, or quiet. FIFY. 😁

I assume Fix can have the U23 spot at 61kgs if he wants it. Same with Vito at 57.

Looking ahead to NY on June 8, this coming Wednesday, pasting the order below. I don't know whether they're doing the times same as yesterday's, but I don't see the purpose of a 2+ hour gap after the first go-round, they've not done in that way before. But I suspect it'll be the same.

NLWC could have 5 world team members if DT beats Zahid (likely) and Nolf upsets Dake (unlikely, but Nolf has definitely improved since they last wrestled).

On the women's side, really looking forward to seeing Amit Elor at the senior level, I think she's a future world champ and that could happen sooner than later.

Bout Order:
  • Bout 1 – 77 kg GR
    Kamal Bey vs. Britton Holmes
  • Bout 2 – 72 kg WFS
    Skylar Grote vs. Amit Elor
  • Bout 3 – 65 kg MFS
    Yianni Diakomihalis vs. Evan Henderson
  • Bout 4 – 87 kg GR
    Alan Vera vs. Timothy Young
  • Bout 5 – 125 kg
    Hayden Zillmer vs. Nick Gwiazdowski
  • Bout 6 - 67 kg GR
    Alejandro Sancho vs. Alston Nutter
  • Bout 7 – 53 kg
    Felicity Taylor vs. Dom Parrish
  • Bout 8 – 60 kg GR
    Dalton Roberts vs. Ildar Hafizov
  • Bout 9 – 62 kg WFS
    Kayla Miracle vs. Jennifer Rogers
  • Bout 10 –97 kg GR
    G'Angelo Hancock vs. Braxton Amos
  • Bout 11 - 50 kg WFS
    Sarah Hildebrandt vs. Alyssa Lampe
  • Bout 12 – 74 kg MFS
    Kyle Dake vs. Jason Nolf
  • Bout 13 – 57 kg WFS
    Helen Maroulis vs. Alex Hedrick
  • Bout 14 - 79 kg MFS
    Jordan Burroughs vs. Chance Marsteller
  • Bout 15 – 86kg MFS
    David Taylor vs. Zahid Valencia

I agree on Elor. She is going to win many world titles and possibly her first at the senior level this year. Does anyone know why the Blades sisters aren’t wrestling at all recently? I know Kennedy had been hurt but I thought she had wrestled since then. I figured they would have made a run at the senior level this year.

It's not often that you see a transformation
I believe that more young men than not experience such a transformation around ages 24-26 yrs old. I believe those that don't are the outliers.

I am very happy for Thomas that he's experienced personal growth. Given his age, I didn't really so much mind his earlier behavior, which I mostly attributed to the relative hard-wiring of his youth that were accompanied by his youthful exuberance.

In his quest to surround himself with a different mindset, I am happy for his finding greater peace of mind.

Just watched the Zain interview. That OK st woman is classless. Great job Zain for handling it well.

Yeah…unbelievably poor sportsmanship from an Okie State loser. Did you notice that Flo cut the interview off before that last 20 secs (why are they protecting the classless Okie chick)? Need to watch the YouTube version to hear the ending. What a class act Zain is.
