Basketball Penn State Hoops defeats St. Francis, 92-62

This is an added benefit for those who signed up for a 1 month Peacock Subscription to watch the Whiteout game.

The question is will we get to see all conference games this year without Peacock? In prior years we got to see all the conference games. It was only the OOC games that might not be televised.

These early non-conference games create such unrealistic expectations. If I were coach, I would want to play some of these early games against lower level teams on the road just to give the team some kind of challenge.

I'm not saying that PSU may not have a competitive team this season, but winning all of these early season games against lower level teams by 30 or 40 points does nothing for me.

Many of the top teams over the years have won some of these games by very slim margins, so winning big does show something.

They are getting all the challenge they can handle. 38-34 less than two minutes in 1st.

So this kid is a 7 footer, transfer from Northern Illinois. Born in Switzerland. Speaks 4 languages and makes his free throws.
I'm impressed with his coordination. A lot of big men have trouble handling passes but Konan has looked solid. My concern is that he has a slender build and could get pushed around by bigger stronger players in the BiG. Look at how PSU struggled after he got two early fouls tonight.

Nzeh hasn't looked good at all. Hopefully Goodman gets healthy and can play beyond his years.

Much better team with Konan on the floor. It’s nice to have depth but coaches eventually going to have to settle on a little bit tighter bench. Rice got in for the first time today, so we’ll see how he improves over the next couple outings. I know Dillone starts and did some things as well, but his jumpshot did not have clean spin or much arc, he’s going to need to keep getting his points in transition off of his defense

I suspect once Rhodes has the program where he wants it they will play some more challenging non-conference games but right now he is just trying to establish cohesiveness and install his system. I agree that is the way to go and it feeds on itself because you are invited to play in early season tournaments, etc. Having said that if you watch this team, they are one of the deepest, most athletic, well coached Penn State teams I've seen in 45 years of following this program. They have a reasonably high ceiling (as far as PSU hoops is concerned) if they stay healthy and continue to improve. Shrews was a good coach but didn't want to be here, Rhodes is the best Penn State coach since Bruce Parkhill and I have confidence we will be a 20 win per year type program which is all you can ask for under the circumstances.

No, but it does a lot for the team. It is a great way to blend in 5 returning players with 7 new faces. It doesn't give us a great look at just what the team will be able to do against the Big Ten Schedule, but it allows the players to get a feel for each other. Friday will be our first real test, but going into that game with these wins behind us is good for the team.

If you win by 10-15 it’s meaningless. If you win by 50 that’s different
Yup. Whether you agree or not, now is the time to build your team’s metrics(NET, Kenpom, etc). You not only have to beat the cupcakes on your schedule, you need to run up your numbers. The NCAA committee absolutely looks at these things and it seems Coach understands that.

I hope that you're right, because it would be nice to be able to follow a consistent winning basketball program after football season ends, like what happens at a lot of the major football schools.

Shows that hard work, and never giving up pays off, but I was more impressed with Stewart sending the ball back to Nzeh for the score. That kid is going to be one of the best players to ever play for Penn State.
Agreed on Stewart. I made that same observation tonight. Kid looks very good and very athletic.

I think he could be a guy who takes minutes from Dilione, has a better shot and more 'game' to him.. I like Carter a lot as well. Going to be a great back up to Ace and then run the show next year.

Was at the LVC exhibition game.. he looked like one of the best during warmups... then during the game was lost on D. To the point he put his hands up as to say he had no idea what to do. :D

That game was interesting... Rhoades was running a very specific offense in the first half... Seemed to flip After a bad call to go into half-time where all the coaches were upset... Shortly after the start of the 2nd half Rhoades then yelled from the bench for Ace to 'Let it Loose!' it went from a 2 point lead to 17 very quickly after that.

We have a consistent, winning hockey team.
One of the goalies is the brother of one of my nephew's former travel hockey teammates. He used to practice with our team before or after his practices if one of our team's goalies wasn't there.
