Gruden is done

He criticized what he saw as a "forced" drafting of Michael Sam by the Commissioner of a league hoping to profit on social justice. He did not say "no gay players should be allowed in our league" I think there is a significant difference in those two ideals that is intentionally being avoided. I am also not sure sending a meme about women referees is "hurting equal rights of women." There is no evidence that his sharing this meme to Bruce Allen did in fact hurt equal rights of women in the league. Last I checked, there were women refereeing games last week.
Will you PLEASE stop making sense!!! 🙂

He did use the word "queers" and in the context he used it, the word wasn't meant to be complimentary and accepting. And so what if his meme didn't affect the hiring of women?? Does that make it alright? If someone went on a racial tirade and dropped in every insult known to man, should they get a pass just because the tirade didn't affect the group in question?

And no, it's not a freedom of speech issue. It's a private entity which is free to set it's own standards of employee conduct. Grossly violate the standards and you're gone.

These same people applauded the firing of Colin Kaepernick, and made this very same argument when they did so. Including F#cking Jon Gruden HIMSELF.

All fair points, I can't disagree with much of this. Admittedly, I didn't know he called gay players queer. I have never suggested this is a freedom of speech issue. Sending things like "Queers" and "fa*gots" to a President of a league team is plenty of reason to be fired.

Actually they were saying this probably didn't violate the terms of his employment or the league's, which could greatly affect the remainder of his contract. He wasn't employed in the NFL at the time, didn't use work email, etc. It will be interesting what kind of financial separation he ends up with from the Raiders.

You like to say a lot of stuff that is flat out false. Before you go off on your little predictable spittle filled tirade maybe you should spend a little time explaining all the similarities and differences between the two issues instead of conflating every issue known to man.

I can see it affecting future contracts. Many employers today scour the social media of applicants to see if there is anything they don't like. I could see the NFL adding clauses to new contracts which could penalize a player/coach if any currently unknown offensive communications surface.

It will be interesting if by resigning so they do not fire you, you get paid. Had he made them fire him, he would be in a better spot I think.

I could see that too, and am a little surprised something like that didn't already exist.

Should we ban rap music in gyms??? I don’t know how many times I have to hear about shooting cops and the N word during a workout.

Actually, us old guys just kid with each other and talk about when kids are our age, this stuff will actually be nostalgic. Beach Boys and Four Tops, it’s not. 🙂

I didn't read the emails. That said, this kind of crap needs to stop. It's purely subjective.

Take it up with the gym. It's a private business which can play any kind of music it wants regardless of how much it may offend a client.

It is a private business. If you do not like it, do not go. Really, how hard is this?

NO. If he had done that, you would be arguing for him to have stayed. Cancel culture in the NFL is a product of pretend patriots.
Amazing how you know what I would have done or said. Wish I were as super intellectual as you.

The guy was sitting the bench and knew his career was essentially over. He saw this as a way to establish himself as a spokesperson in a new career. Smart move on his part and he played it well by being the perpetual victim. He also knew fools like you would buy it hook, line, and sinker.

Cancel culture is just that, cultural. Even if Gruden appeared to be truly contrite to Raiders’ management, there is no way the Raiders could stand by him. Had they tried to retain Gruden, the media and the social media mob would have put the Raiders organization between the crosshairs and would have demanded that Gruden be fired. Some of the Raiders’ players might have turned on Gruden and the organization, and then they would have had a divided locker room. The situation would have continued the downward spiral from there.

The question, I feel, is whether these e-mail messages should have made public. I don’t think they should have gone public, but once they did, there was no way the Raiders could have stood by Gruden, no way Gruden could have retained his job.

Another sad aspect of cancel culture is that there is likely no way for Gruden to rehabilitate his image and gain meaningful employment if he is truly remorseful. He’s very likely been canceled for eternity.
I was hoping you could say cancel culture more in your post.

Is this meant to be ironic -- pointing out that someone couldn't know your mind, and then professing to know the motivations in someone else's mind?

Is it possible that Gruden doesn't give a shit about any player's sexual orientation in terms of whom a team should draft? To me it seems that Gruden felt a team was being pressured into drafting a player higher than what he otherwise would have been drafted simply because the player was gay.
Yeah that's why he used the term ******. Makes sense.

It doesn’t get any more racist than what he sent

I read the articles about this, and the referenced emails. I have not seen one thing he said about race. I know the media narrative says Gruden is racist and his emails were full of evidence of this, but WHERE is this evidence?

So it was all about the pressure to draft a gay. player? It didn't matter he used anit-gay slurs too?

When men disparage women routinely inside and outside of the workplace it promotes a damaging view of women. And it's also clear that the Redskins had some pretty poor views on women already. So these things perpetuate themselves. These perpetuated views hurt all women over time and for a long time. It hurts the greater good. And the greater good is important. It's important for our wives, our daughter, and even gay sons. We already know women don't make the same percentage of the dollar that men make doing the same job. This stuff has to stop in organizations if we are really going to treat them as equals.

OMG, you said the "R" word! You damned racist!!!

See how dumb this stuff is?

We could have had the SUNY criminal and gruden. Imagine our public perception then. We Are!

Not keeping a close track of the timeline, but if Chuckie had taken the job the emails might never have been written.......... or he might have composed similar ones while in the employ of Dear Old State.

Oh my. so sad you don't understand,
Oh, I understand. You are a hypocrite. Speak from your high horse about hurtful, disparaging speech about women and gays, and then use horribly offensive terminology in reference to Native Americans. Shameful.

Reading these posts reminds me of an interesting pattern. When someone accuses you of being “self-righteous”, on a “high horse” or “intellectual”, it simply means they don’t have a leg to stand on in their argument and you are 100% correct.

Gruden, through multiple emails over a number of years, not a solitary email, revealed his true character. As an employer, no one would want someone of that character representing their organization, so he could not stay. Pretty simple.

You all act like this is new. Remember the Dixie Chicks?

Right. Again rules only apply to one group of bigots and racists. Growing up in a mixed neighborhood of S Philly, I‘ll tell you there wasn’t a day that went by when you weren’t called some thing derogatory. By today’s standard we would all have a label attached to us. And by the way, we all got along went to school together and hung out daily. I went to S Philly High and was the minority, I will guantee most of you can’t say the same.

Gruden‘s beliefs are his, just like each of you have your own. When you let someone else’s thoughts and beliefs affect you then you are the problem. This is no different the a white person fighting for the rights of someone that doesn’t have a problem. White hatred of other white people on the premise of defending freedom and calling everyone racist because they don’t aggree with other people’s beliefs has caused more hate and division in this country then any group of racist and bigots.

I won't state an opinion on whether he deserved to be fired or not, but in this current climate, he was always going to be gone.

Yeah he would have probably been ok if not for the additional 7 years. I still find it shitty and disturbing that those private messages were leaked but also feel that way about some naive and stupid enough to put that out there in that manner. There is no privacy anymore. Also even if he was joking and some of the stuff is out of the context it was intended (doubtful) then he is still an idiot, man. I am telling you right now man, DON'T PRESS SEND.
