Headliner for 11/24 announced!

Covid test no later than 72 hours after entering the state...

Fly in, wrestle and fly back out the same day..lol

Not trying to turn this into the dumpster fire thread, nor am I typically a pessimist by nature, but honestly, I'm hoping they can get this event in next week before the lockdown(s) return(s). I wouldn't hold my breath on December, and the NCAA season is looking as shakey as ever too....

I have a feeling we may see Michael Boykin on this card as well. He posted a pic today wrestling nevills and yesterday said big news coming.

Please merge this we the other site...didnt see that thread before posting

Is he hurt? Sick?
He was pulled from the last match, but his father said he was fine, or something to that effect. Hope all is well for all wrestlers.
Anyone know about RBY, he tested positive right? I saw a workout video recently but not sure of the date stamp.

have they said anything about the format of this? 6 teams doesn't make an even bracket so i'm guessing some sort of round robin. hoping for full 6 team RR since it's over 2 days but i can't find any concrete details.

Does anyone think that the supposed tension between PSU and Cornell might be easing a bit seeing how the NLWC added the Max Dean/Brucki match, neither of them are tied to the NLWC, having Gabe Dean in and asking Dake to participate (though he passed) that we might see in the future a dual with them?

Two pools of 3 RR I think is what I saw Pyles describing on twitter.

thanks for the info. i guess that's 2 duals on day 1 then finals the next day. hopefully they'll have some other exhibition matches since a 6 match card seems a little light.

it's a shame they don't have like an event page where they could put all of these details so their customers know what to expect

It should be 2 duals per team (so 6 for fans to watch) on day one--and I bet they have at least a 3rd place dual on the 2nd day, right? Not sure though.

right, 6 total. i was thinking from the team POV where they'd only get their guys 2 matches the first day at most.

i'm curious if they'll run one mat or two. one mat would potentially be a 6 hour block (or three 2 hour blocks) but two mats might not leave a lot of rest time in between matches if they run it straight through.

One mat would be a 12 hour block or six 2 hour blocks so I don't see that happening. Two mats would yield the time blocks you stated.

Only 6 weights per match, not like a college match, no where near 12 hours, but, if Flo does their god awful and excessive plugs for whatever 30 minute film they have going on that week then you are looking at 14 hours. Also their typical streaming issues might push it to an entire day event.

Oh, right, I forgot about that. Also, freestyle matches go quicker with only 6 minutes, some quick TFs, and none of the delays getting into the referee's position. So maybe they do go with one mat.

I would give a SLIGHT advantage to Dean AND Brucki, but if Aaron is indeed at 100% ya just never know.

They were talking about the scoring quickly on FRL yesterday for a freestyle dual. Interesting that shutting out an opponent garners an extra team point. I hope that doesn't discourage people from being aggressive.

VPO (decision): Win by less than 10, losing wrestler does not score; example 5-0 (3 winning team - 0 losing team)
VPO1 (decision): Win by less than 10, losing wrestler does score; example 5-2 (3-1)
VSU (tech fall): Won by 10 or more, losing wrestler does not score; example (4-0)
VSU1 (tech fall): Win by 10 or more, losing wrestler does score; example 12-2 (4-1)
VFA (pin): Pin (5-0)

They also ranked each team's guys at every weight and I did a breakdown of the bouts in potential dual just to see who was the favorites. The results just list each team's projected ranking and the number of duals they are supposed to win. Example: Cliff Keen is expected to go 5-0 on the rankings and win 4 duals vs. Gopher's 2 if they wrestle. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6823207-ranking-every-entry-for-each-weight-at-the-rtc-cup

Cliff Keen (5-0) vs:
Gopher: 4-2
NJRTC: 5-1
Ohio: 4-2
Spartan: 4-2
Wolfpack: 4-2

Spartan (4-1) vs:
Cliff Keen: 2-4
Gopher: 4-2
NJRTC: 4-2
Ohio: 4-2
Wolfpack: 4-2

Ohio (3-2) vs:
Cliff Keen: 2-4
Gopher: 4-2
NJRTC: 4-2
Spartan: 2-4
Wolfpack: 4-2

NJRTC (1-3-1) vs:
Cliff Keen: 1-5
Gopher: 3-3
Ohio: 2-4
Spartan: 2-4
Wolfpack: 4-2

Gopher (0-3-2) vs:
Cliff Keen: 2-4
NJRTC: 3-3
Ohio: 2-4
Spartan: 2-4
Wolfpack: 3-3

Wolfpack (0-4-1) vs:
Cliff Keen: 2-4
Gopher: 3-3
NJRTC: 2-4
Ohio: 2-4

Shouts out to Titan Mercury and all involved for finally making this happen. Since the inception of the RTC model, the vast majority of the wrestling community have asked for this. This is going to be fun.

Haha, I was reading your post and thinking Yes! I've thought similarly! Until I got to the last question, my answer to which is no.

I never learned enough to explain my answer with proper citation (probably not capable of b/c so much of what I'd want to learn is privately held by Cael). But here I'm guessing that the weight of the historical beef Cael has/had with Rob Koll (the 2012 NWCA Convention vote while Cael & Brands were in London?) and/or Cornell (East Coast / Recruiting conflicts) is probably greater than whatever detente Gabe Dean can be credited with to date.

It's a great question, though--for now & for the future!

The Cornell Assistant Coaches are branding Cornell nationally a lot better than Koll has (Koll of course has/had branded Cornell Wrestling perfectly in NY and did all the hard work locally to develop stakeholder buy-in). Mike Grey (6/R12/R12/6) didn't have 1/8th the college career that Dean did (3/1/1/2), but Yianni has given him tons of love & credit for a bunch of his success lately. And Dean's podcast and general ambassadorship continues to continue.

And maybe it's my imagination, but are we hearing from Rob Koll less these days?

I know its Olympic year, and this might get Covid canceled anyway, but why couldnt they have used UWW 10 weights, even if they had to be catch weights just to get more guys involved?

Some of these RTCs don't have the rosters for 10 weights, heck some had to bring in outside people just to fill in 6.
