Illinois dual thread - Feb 16

Regardless, Sealey didn’t exactly make me think Friday was a bad weight cut issue. The young man has work to do if he wants to be a starter on this team. Not saying he won’t get there, but there is a hill to climb.
No big deal, he's just not ready out of the gate yet but isn't that most true freshmen. No big deal he'll get there for sure. A starting spot on this team is guaranteed to No man.

Yeah, but we knew that before Friday evening. I hope he turns things around and becomes a real option at some point. Sometime it takes some time and we know that he has been dealing with some things.

The Big Ten needs to review that and take disciplinary action against Rivera. He’s got to be held accountable for his incompetence.
One of these days that ignoramus is going to cost a kid a conference championship or worse. We have been bitching about him for more than a decade, yet he continues to raise the bar of his incompetence.

We see very few video reviews overturn a call, even egregious ones, yet Angel is such a tool, he can actually make himself look more incompetent overruling himself. He is truly one of a kind.

To be totally fair Sealey should credit for riding time because he should not be penalized for angle mistake. Score should be 1-1 into sudden victory.

He's always been the one that seems like the odd man out. Kasak, Messnbrink and Duke have the next couple years tied down at his weight(s).

Not a fair way to judge it but you put any of our top ranked guys from the past, as a true freshman they’re teching a kid ranked #30. Besides maybe a guy like Gulibon. Has a lot of work to do.
Gulibon got the ultimate Angel. Pinned Heil 3 or 4 times, Angel didn’t call it. Think that match was impetuous behind neutral near fall rule.

Sealey was a deer in the headlights on Friday. Now his first couple matches are in the books and I would anticipate better efforts moving forward.

Mesenbrink gets Scoles bellied out. The announcers are saying that Scoles is Mesenbrink's former teammate. Scoles is bellied out & not doing much. The ref is calling for action. 2nd stall call on Scoles, point Mesenbrink, 4-0. Scoles works back to his base, but only for a moment before Mesenbrink gets him bellied out again. Mesenbrink shoots, but no luck. Mesenbrink gets an ankle pick. He elevates the leg, but they go out of bounds, restart. Mesenbrink is breathing hard. He looks tired. I haven't seen that before. Well, if he gets tired, then we know he's human & not a cyborg, so there's that too. More circling & tying up to end the period. Mesenbrink adds a RT point for the 10-1 Major.

Mitchell Mesenbrink MD Braeden Scoles 10-1

That's an Angel special. He's actually not bad on the mat. It's when the action stops that he loses his mind. Which is when the best refs shine.

His reviews over the years have been horrendous. Whatever everyone thinks occurred on the mat, Angel will invariably call the opposite.

Oh well, doesn't actually change the action that happened. Sealey looked mediocre until he didn't.
I do not remenber ever disagreeing with any of your posts or thoughts, but i disagree with this post.
Angel's performance in the RBJ v Fix final with his multiple stall calls in a machine gunner fashion to send the match to SV was pretty damn pathetic also.

Angel is fine if every match is slow moving, all one-sided, nothing resembling a close call and nobody in the stands or corners to yell anything to so easily confuse his synaptic network.

I'm pretty sure that's the 2nd! match this year that Mesenbrink's activity resulted in a stall call in the first 10s of the match.

Sure, Sealey has work to do. But unlike Friday against anOSU, Sealey at least showed a couple flashes:

- Didn't get ridden for an entire period with his face mashed in the mat. Actually got an escape.
- Had a couple legit shot attempts; needs to finish better or win the scramble
- Had the match-winning TD (albeit stolen by Angel).

Not great, but a lot better than Friday against Cannon.

174 - #2 Levi Haines VS #23 Danny Braunagel

Levi is hand fighting hard & pressing forward, but can't find an opening. Levi with a half shot, but no luck. Levi drops in on a leg & trips Braunagel to the mat right before the period ends. Levi rides out the last 5-seconds. 3-0 Levi, +5-sec RT

Period 2:
Levi takes down. He gets to his feet & fights for the escape, 4-0. Collar ties & pushing. Braunagel has solid defense. Levi reaches for a leg, but can't get there.
