In Iowa desperation news…

Yep.

I truly wish them well but I fail to see where the squeeze is worth the juice, so to speak.

Bringing on lots of volatility and you're Iowa. Act like it.
Smebody should probably take a screen cap of that "next year's projected lineup" post and compare it to what ultimately results.

I'll be shocked if AJ makes it a year in college wrestling again.

Not that I think he's too dumb or any negative reason. He'll be 21 with other options and probably has 2+ years left for a degree. Just don't think his head is probably in the game.

What I find entertaining is Iowa thinks this somehow is the beginning of a guaranteed 3peat. The Ferrari's are not only going to keep their noses clean for that long but are going to GUARANTEE Them 70 points a year.
Short of being a generational talent similar to Spencer (and even Spencer fell short of expected goals), champions are not developed in Iowa City. It just is what it is. So, the best that can hoped for is no jail time, as little distracting drama as possible and strong efforts resulting in a few 4 thru 8 placements. For the short time the 3 will overlap 30 to 40 cumulative points annually seems like a good weekend.

In all seriousness, their recruitment as a family has been weird. No school was a finalist for all 3 brothers. Only OKST and Rutger were finalists for 2 brothers.

(Granted, Angelo released his list after Smith booted AJ and the family moved back to TX from Stilly.)

AJ: OKST, Rutger, Nebraska, PSU, anOSU
Anthony: OKST, Minny, Oklahoma
Angelo: Iowa, ISU, Rutger, VT, Wisconsin

It's almost as if each school thought 1 dance with the clan was enough. (Except Rutger.)

Sorry if already stated but how much eligibility does A.J have with the extra Covid year? Realistically how many seasons would he be able to wrestle with his younger 2024 brother Angelo, assuming he came in and wrestled as a freshman? If A.J was enrolled, he could theoretically take an Olympic redshirt and a regular redshirt to line up with both brothers, correct? I doubt academics are in any way of the amount of years that will take lol. To take an Olympic shirt, does winning your title have to be the previous season in year, or previous year specifically you wrestled? A.J won his title as a true freshman so with Covid, a regular redshirt, and a potentially Olympic one, will be interesting to see how they can space him out to line up with his brothers.

He has 3 more years technically
2021 - Didn't Count
2022 - Counted
2023 - He didn't wrestle but since he never redshirted, it effectively just counts as that under the 5 year count rule (obviously 2021 not counting)

So over on the hr gobblin starts this bs of bouzakis transferring to be their 133 pounder for next year….bouzakis goes on instagram a little bit ago and says he’s a buckeye….now gobblins being called out over their and he’s claiming he made the whole thing up
Gobblin is always wrong on her predictions. She was giving "inside" information about Spencer being out of state, parents checking out of the hotel, etc. after the pin by Ramos. Whatever she predicts, plan the opposite to be true. Truly a George Costanza "do the opposite" persective

Andrew Long wasn't Cael's best move but he was never charged with a crime of any kind at Iowa State. Ed Ruth yes, got away with some stuff that a lesser wrestler wouldn't have. Welcome to life and society, you bring more to the table, you get more chances. Does anyone think Brands would be bringing in AJ if he was a R12 level 197?

Do we have to bring up Montell Marion's permanent suspension? Would Seth Gross ever have been thrown off if there weren't felony charges? Let's not pretend this is new for Brands.

There is very little I like about HR, but their endless pit of hope is fun. One of these days HR is going to have a thread about Iowa medical research has found a way to clone Dan Gable, and they will be able to engineer the clone to grow into 10 distinct sizes.
Dumb shyts won't realize Dan is still going to wrestle for Iowa State.

Can he take an Olympic redshirt this year to fit the criteria as a national champion, even though he didn’t win it this past season, but did the last season he competed (that counted)? I guess it doesn’t really matter considering he has his regular redshirt still available to him as well.

He doesn't have the regular anymore since he technically used it last year (unless he just wants to lose the year which doesn't make sense lol) He does have an Olympic though for winning NCAAs and also being an age group medalist.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

His college transcripts at Oklahoma State probably look like a kindergarten coloring book.

Why would Iowa, a program of enormous heritage and integrity, even take a chance on either of the two oldest Ferrari's? I can understand the youngest but why the older two and don't tell me the noble "second chance" crap?

The Brands are desperate and are willing to go to this extreme for one more shot at dethroning the king, maybe the greatest king of all time.

The Brands know that their win in 2021 was fortunate (Berge got hurt and JLee underperformed) and that the 2020 title would have been within their reach only because four Lions (Cassar, Conel, Nevills, and Shak) got hurt. Yes, injuries do impact the Nits, too. Cael was never punting during those years. In fact, there is no more punting for PSU.

He also said Pozanaki was headed their way until Corby told him he was wrong.

What makes you think Gobblin is female?

You’re an With all of that rationalization and mind/head games with her fan base, there has to be lots of estrogen flowing through those veins. If that is a male, then I'm guessing a rare XXY chromosome abnormality .

I agree with most of this but you have to own the Long thing. Did Cael think he could keep him in line? Sure, so does Tom. But Long had multiple run ins with police in Ames and a huge drinking problem. There was a reason he was kicked off. Returning freshman finalists don’t get kicked off the team for minor first time offenses. Cael took a gamble on an ultra talented guy, it worked out for a year, then it fell apart.

I think it would be more fair to say that Cael made a big mistake once and has done a good job not repeating it.

I am sure Cael does look back, and with hindsight, would probably not have brought Long on. However, he was finishing his third year as a head coach at ISU when he came to Penn State. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t learned, through experience, to be better at their job as they gain experience. He may have thought a change of scenery would help Long, I don’t know. But I do know TnT have collectively way more experience than three years. Whatever their thought processes, it is not due to still learning on the job. They tried this once with Downey, they know what they’re doing.

I said it wasn't his best move. Were all his run ins related to just drinking? Some people seem to imply Long was already charged with sexual assault of some kind before he was brought in.

Obviously I'm aware it was for a ultra talented guy and he wouldn't be interested in helping out a fringe NQ. Once again, that's sports.

He’s not. It was probably the saddest day I’ve ever seen anyone have on the internet. He just kept doubling and tripling down, getting stuff wrong, reversing course, wrong again. I can’t believe he didn’t just delete his account and come back as a new persona.
Oh wow. May have to go over and read some of that. Lol
