Is the B1G swallowing up Pitt?

I think everybody might be missing the big point, something that Franklin understands intrinsically. We have no rivals. Isn't that what everyone says on this board--Pitt, Syracuse, Maryland, Rutgers, BC--none rise to the level of rival when it comes to a tradition of success on the football field and similar geographic recruiting territory. Those schools simply cannot offer what Penn State can offer and it will take years, probably decades to change that. Sure, Ohio State will get quite a few top kids, Michigan will get an occassional player, Pitt, Maryland, Rutgers will get the occassional high rated local player but no one will have a better quality/quantity count than Penn State. That's why dominate the state has turned into dominate the region. It's not just something to aspire to, it's something we already have. It's also why Franklin has not made the same bold statements as O'Brien when asked about making the Pitt game an annual thing. The downside to losing the game is far, far greater than the upside. We have no responsibility to Pitt to help them rebuild their program.

Tradition+close proximity to these areas means we win.......as long as we don't screw it up. So for me, hell with the rivals. We need to get national rivals and put these past petty rivalries behind us until they find a way to do something worthy of our rivalry. Was Texas' biggest rival A&M or Oklahoma, a rival is an equal and none of these programs are equals. To suggest they are rivals actually lowers our own value.
Look nobody said Penn State had to help rebuild the Pitt football program. Penn State is busy rebuilding it's own football program. The Pitt game was a great rivalry and still would be if there had not been an interruption. Also this dominance of the state is only a year or so in the making and I think it will continue but it is in the early going. Of all the teams you mention Pitt easily out distances the others. Their the only team that is anywhere close to Penn State in the all time series and their 2 AP National Titles are equal to what Penn State has done on the National level. Yes Penn State is a better program than Pitt and the gap will most likely increase now but Pitt on the schedule will always be a much better option than Rutgers and Maryland for that rival some of us yearn for.

Your avatars says it all! Farewell I'm done with this thread!

Again. Did your Mom get home and complain that you were on the internet all day? Time to quit with the cheetos and porn until tomorrow I guess.

The grant of rights they signed after Maryland left will preclude anyone from leaving. Besides, we improved by adding Louisville. Nobody is going anywhere. Is this "the Dude" ?

I'm talking about the Grant of Rights.

ESPN bought you guys off with a $2 million dollar annual subsidy in place of the ACC Network until the ACC Network went live. With the look-in coming up in a couple of years (2017), and still no ACC Network close to production, at least a couple of your schools have made contact with the Big Ten, SEC, and even, to a lesser extent, the Big 12.

I've heard they are hinting that, unlike the Big 12, there is a GOR escape clause in the ACC Contract in 2017 if ESPN doesn't come through on the ACC Network by then. I can't confirm the escape clause, but I can tell you at least two schools are seriously making contact. I know one that would make the jump today if they could.

And improved by adding Louisville? In relation to the original theme of this thread??? You have to be kidding. Maryland produces over twice as many Division 1 football and basketball prospects/recruits than Kentucky does. In fact, in basketball, Kentucky is a recruiting wasteland. Not good for a basketball school unless you go to the dark side and hire someone like Calipari.

Here is how you start to do it

So you start by recruiting less top recruits? Interesting and counter-intuitive.

Cullen Christian was a former 4 star recruit that had plenty of impressive offers as well. He went to Michigan and ended up transferring back to Pittsburgh. How did that work out for Pitt? Was he the next revis?
So you're saying that being a highly ranked four star recruit means little? Then why are you folks beating your collective chests about having a number of 4 star recruits?

You sure do try to cherry pick stuff, just like the other troll that you seem to tag team with. The point was that transfers rarely work out. There are exceptions, but for every Russell Wilson there are lots of Danny O'Briens.

Meaning you apparently aren't very bright or insightful.

You also lack any semblance of civility.

And your post is civil how? But maybe you can point out what was inflammatory in the original post.

Guess nobody wants to go see all Pitt's talented recruits. Maybe if they'd win a few more games? Eh, doesn't matter. Look at all those Pitt guys in Canton.
98,00 people showed up to watch PSU go 7-6...or to get puking drunk in the parking lots.

As for the Pitt guys in Canton, they speak for themselves...with more on the way in the next decade

Fun thread. We've hit a new level in pitt athletic supporter double-talk and sheer bullshit.

Like our campus, our academics, our athletics, our stadium, our fans, etc.
Depends what academics you are referring to. There are plenty of disciplines where Pitt is better. Of course Pitt also ranks higher overall as a research university and has a much bigger institutional endowment.

I also prefer an urban campus with a huge municipal park within 1/4 mile. State College is small and boring to me.

Oh and of the two revenue sports. PSU BB is a joke much more so than Pitt FB

The anti-BOT crowd will now attack you viciously

And your level of unearned arrogance and condescension remains at the same ridiculous level. So you have that going for you

It's a staple in the condescending arrogance that many PSU fans display.

And all that your posts show is the terrible envy and hatred that too many Pitt fans have for PSU and other programs that have been more successful than Pitt since 1980. And that's most of the programs out there. Must be terrible going to bed at night knowing that your program, in twenty years, will still be playing mediocre football stuck in the worst of the Power 5 conferences, still blaming Joe and PSU for the incompetence and shortsightedness of your own administration. When the ACC breaks up in twenty years good luck in the MAC.

Nope, just saying kids that transfer don't pan out very ofter so I wouldn't get too excited about a kid who apparently couldn't succeed at TN.

Time to let this kid die on the vine. He has a lot of time on his hands since nobody would go to the prom with him.

Come on Buff give DaVille a little love this year: only NCAA School to finish in the Top 25 in hoops, football and baseball! Tom Jurich knows how to build national programs!

This thread was incredible.

Move Rutgers and PSU to the ACC (or Pitt to the Big 10) so we can have this every month on all three forums.

I was referring to overall academics, which is all that really matters. Unless you go with some obscure "world" ranking, PSU is universally considered a better school. Of course the reputation of PSU degree is much better, since PSU ranks #1 with corporate recruiters. So academics isn't in question, PSU is a better school. That's not to say Pitt is a bad school, it's just not as good as PSU.

Small and Boring? The night life is much better at PSU, as we are always a highly ranked party school. Pitt is close to a park? Well PSU basically is a giant park, and is basically surrounded by parks. When in college, there are more women your age at PSU, if you are in to that sort of thing. I guarantee that PSU has more clubs than Pitt. So there is more to do at PSU for a college student on a limited budget, like watch successful sports teams. Since you have to be very careful where you go around Oakland, it just feels to small and boring. I always assumed that since you can't go outside after dark, that everyone just stayed in and hated on PSU... and that is how the Lair was formed.

You've not been paying attention, Pitt football is the biggest joke in college sports. No one chokes better. Pitt has had some recent mild success in basketball, but PSU has still been to the final 4 more recently. Athletics are made up of more than just 2 sports, and when you take them as a whole, PSU has more programs and has had more success. This is evidenced by the fact that PSU is routinely in the top 3-5 in the directors cup, and routinely wins NCAA national championships. Pitt has never won an NCAA national championship.

I get it, you want to justify why your experience was great. That's just human nature. I'm sure you had a blast in college, but it could have been so much better. You can cherry pick all the data you want, but Pitt will never be a better school than PSU.

Pitt should count its blessings that Joyner the goof started down this road and Barbour and Franklin are going along with it. How much money is Penn State going to piss away on Pitt in charity? While the rest of us will have to contend with vulgarity and ignorance that will make Rutgers fans look tame. This was a bad idea to start with and is still a bad idea.

I think he likes Brad Pitt.

No. Mr. Pitt.

Really? It is just banter! Don't be so thin skinned. I'm sure you will be given a little bit of a hard time at the stadium showing up in Penn State garb....just ignore it. Now, I doubt you will be out right harassed. Pitt fans in general are very tame.

Plus, there probably won't be many Pitt fans at Heinz field as it will be coming off a loss against Villanova.

The truth is we don't care enough about footballing enough to harass you. IT'S JUST A GAME!

Really? Is that why you have been here responding to every post for the past week within 5 minutes? Is that why the entire Pantherlair board gets so angry about Penn State? Is that why you have people setting up Gofundme accounts and begging the golden Panthers to come back? It's because you don't care? RIGHT!!!!!!!!

It is much more fun getting reactions from you guys than watching any football game. I'm fascinated by how serious you guys take this stuff..lol.

Well, there are more people on this board on a June morning than there typically are at Heinz Field during a Pitt game, so perhaps that is why you think we take this so seriously.
