You may want to look at your 157 pick. If Lee goes, you're possibly up-the-crick.

No Nick Lee
Army threw a wrench at us at 133, too. I think the guy they are sending out is a lot better than Montgomery. Could mess w/ our bonus picks.

Nevermind that last part — not who I was thinking of, lol.

Not sure why Army even bothered providing a lineup.

Well, that was easy.

Neither team felt the need to take it easy on the KYPSW guy, so I've been up since the dual ended, trying to figure this out. Here's what I've got.

At 141, we sent Meredith, in place of Lee. Of course, Meredith wasn't on the Notes, so 141 goes out the window, despite us picking Lee unanimously.

At 165 Army sent Hunt, instead of Fielden. Slush picked Hunt, miraculously, so I'll give him 0.49 credit, which rounds down to no credit. And, I picked Harkins, because I paid no attention to Notes, and Wrestlestat had Harkins. So, nobody gets anything for 165.

Fielden bumped from 165 to 174, and we were unanimous on Starocci, so everybody gets 2 there. Same deal with 285, as Army sent Phillips, instead of Sullivan.

So, this dual was worth a maximum of 22. 30-3-3-1-1. Been working on that math for hours.

So, here are the results:

If I correctly understand the proprietary algorithm, all should get 2 for 133, because RBY was a unanimous pick and Carone went for Army but wasn't on the match notes. So so there goes my sole possession of the #1 spot for this week's dual.

Alright, Excel genii, I've got an assignment for you.

Below is a link to the spreadsheet. Well, a copy of it, anyway. You think I'm letting you animals get near the real thing, you got another think coming. <g>

Description of the Spreadsheet
Tabs across the bottom are for each individual match, B1G, NCAA and YTD
  • Within each match tab, there is a data entry area (light green), followed by an initial tabulation area (pinkish), then a ranking area (yellow-goldish).
  • In the YTD Tab there is an area for scoring from the match tabs (no color), followed by an unranked season totals section (light pink?), a section for "correcting" for tiebreakers (light blue), then a final section for finished YTD standings (no idea what that color is).
So, when you enter data in a match tab, everything cascades through the sheet, resulting in ranked match results and ranked YTD results.

I consider some of the stuff to be elegant, some of it to be brute force, and some of it to just be straightforward Excel. It has been an ongoing project since I took over several years ago, with small improvements occurring over time.

The Project
The next step is to automate an area in YTD for YTD change from the last YTD to the current YTD, without too much copy/paste, if any. Up until now, anytime I do YTD change, it has been through way too much copy/paste, subtraction, re-ranking. Way too time consuming, which explains why you don't see it that often.

That's where I need help with ideas on how to accomplish it. My only idea right now is to make a new YTD area for every match, with a new YTD change calculation, within each of those new areas.

What I'm not looking for
I know there are likely areas of the spreadsheet that some of you will say, "Why did he do it this way? There are easier ways." However, the spreadsheet works, and I'm not interested in making changes, just so it will continue to work, but with a different, cleaner method, unless that method gets me to a point where I can make this project work.

So, have at it, and get back to me with any questions.

Give me time. There's nothing (or very little) in Excel that can't be done when it comes to data that fits into a spreadsheet, basically two dimensional (rows and columns). Your project fits into the "almost three-dimensional" realm. This one may take a macro or two.
