LaMont Wade returning to Penn State

I expect Lamont will be a special teams demon and get at least 40% of the defensive snaps. Depending on injuries, and his and other players development, he could end up starting several games.
He's fearless and very dedicated on the field. My concern is that he's a tweener: too slow for CB and too small for S. Hope I am wrong. He's listed at 195 but that seems to be with ten pounds of weights in his shorts. Regardless, I feel he can be a good S with a little luck and work in the weight room. He's still got two more years of eligibility.

More proof that the universe is out to f$^# with Pitt. Pitt fans get all excited that the recruit they used to hate was going to leave PSU to join them... then he doesn't.

To tell you the truth, many of us were not excited. 5' 8" defensive backs have a huge disadvantage verses most receivers. We have weaknesses on our team, but not in the defensive backfield. More than likely he tested the waters, hoped that Pitt or someone near his home would take him to be nearer his child and found out that wasn't the case.

Good grief. Narduzzi would have done anything possible to sign Wade. Anything. If for no other reason, to boast on the recruiting trail about having stolen a player from Franklin.

Fair enough as, sounds like a reasonable hypothesis!

Can't really agree in that Pitt would have taken him simply as an example to hold up to other potential recruits moving forward. That value has nothing to do with Wade's height or playing ability

I don't think most wanted him to come to Pitt. Although human nature being what it is, a number wouldnt have been upset if they thought it hurt us. It goes both ways.

Pitt fans didn't want a five star recruit?

Sound like C.J. F said something to the effect of..if you are not sure you want to be here go I want people to be fully committed to us. Wade realized PSU was the best fit for him and asked to return.

He was a 5 Star Recruit 2 years ago.. His play on the Field is what he is judged on Now.. Short and Slow.. Didn’t care either way he decided.. Good And Smart Kid, but not many Pitt Fans wanted him after seeing his play.. I’m sure the PSU obsessed fans wanted him for that reason, but those are few..

I think it's more likely that CJF told these kids to check things out and decide one way or another by a certain date or they wouldn't be guaranteed a scholarship is still available. I prefer to think this was all done in a more positive way than some here who think the program is collapsing from within.

a possibility I didn't think of. Thanks for that. I doubt it, but ceratainly could have gone to several kids and said that they'd probably never get a starting role at PSU....kind of like Cuba releasing prisnoners to the USA.

yeah, as far as I can tell, Wade was/is the most important and most likely to get playing time of those in the Transfer Portal.

I don't doubt it just because of the numbers. PSU has a lot more kids in the portal than many other schools -- and they are all non starters or starters who might have lost their jobs. I think CJF is honest with the kids, tells them their spot and, at least in the case of some that are graduating, probably encouraged them to look around for a grad school. And I really don't want to think CJF is the kind of guy who would hold a grudge over a personal decision like Wade wanting to be closer to his child (if that's the case as it seems to be). Sure, I'm just tossing out thoughts and have no inside info.

Yay, more stuff for players to ‘announce’ on social media. One of our recruits tweeted he was going to have a 'major announcement'. Later that day, he tweeted he was changing his twitter user name because it was no longer fitting (and that he had to re-earn it).

I’m thinking he thought about the reality of sitting out a year and decided it was better for him to stay and compete. There was really nothing for him to gain transferring this year. I don’t buy that Pitt would not take him.

If nothing else he gives us depth and a good special teams player. He gets another year with great weight training and competition. A win win imo

What about Juwan Johnson? I'm sure he would've been perfect for the hands team...

Narduzzi would eat a baby to get Wade on the team.

Even at “less than advertised based upon his recruitment”, Pitt would be desperate to bring someone like Lamont into their program. Do you see the caliber of kids Duzzi is recruiting? Barely scratching the top 1000 - let alone Top 100. The level of delusion amongst Pitt fans knows no bounds!

Can't wait for the..."He had his chance. Don't take him back!!" takes.

Welcome back!
He might not have been welcomed back if we hadn't had so many other defections. I think we only have 75 on scholarship at this point.

Some of you are changing your tune awfully quickly. It was no big deal when he left, and now all of a sudden it is a big deal that he is back. Pick a story and stick to it.

It was / is no big deal either way. Penn State has enough horses in the stable that this kid wasn't even a starter. It's nice to have him back because he has known value and adds depth. But by no means would it have been a big deal if he had left. That's my story that I'm sticking to. Now go back to the lair please.
