Match Thread for Indiana and Northwestern

I believe Bartlett believes he can do it as well, not much other reason for him to remain at 141. Begs the question - what about next year? One of those boys needs to gain 8 lbs. i don't see Nick being able to do that. For the good of the team I hope Beau tries to go 149 this year for starters.
Looks like one of our 141lbs guys are going have to move up most probably bartlett. When you have 4 149ers you have no podium 149ers.

Much better performance overall in the second match with NU. Hopefully, that hole at 125 gets filled quickly; 149 becomes much more clear; and Beard comes back soon. Only a month to figure things out and get set for Big Tens. What a short timeline. Feels like November but we are about to enter February.

Seth/AB/Lee looked great both matches.
RBY/Berge looked much better 2nd match around.

Good learning experience today for Joe and Carter. Hopefully Michael, Robbie are back soon and we figure out the situation with 149. Great fight by everyone today! If anything, this match shows how important our routine that Cael has setup is.

Too many or not enough Roar ? Not sure what you mean Sir. TIA
Not as many. Seven bouts, but only covering 4 weight classes. Same guy went twice at 165 and Starocci got an extra bout. The absences due to a couple guys not being medically cleared affected it too.

Haven't seen the extra match results from NU yet... will post when I see them.

My hat's off to Seth. 20 lbs heavier and he looks faster and more athletic. He might have a chance against Cassi, which is huge if we need it I think working with Snyder, Cassar, and Kerk is transforming him since last year. Very encouraging outings today for bigger snacks!!!
Let's not get crazy. Consider the competition. Cass pinned that IU kid in about 15 seconds last year.

For their first duals kids did ok, still young and first duals. Need to clean things up if they don’t want to get steam rolled by Iowa. They have the ability just need some seasoning.

The NW kid doesn't have a spot in the lineup. He had no choice but to bulk up and ho Heavy. Snacks had 50+ pounds on the kid.

Not sure what the Def was for Verk.

Can I interest you in Morgan McIntosh archives?
Morgan really perfected the bow & arrow (as did Zain later on). Morgan is the first PSU guy that I remember really using it often and effectively. There probably was someone else before him, but I don't recall it.

Not sure what the Def was for Verk.

Was Verk injured?

That would be my guess. Byers did not have a score and indicated there might have been a medical situation, but did not elaborate further than that.

Would have had to been an illegal move as it lists Verk as winner (which I believe implies Verk was winning but was not able to continue due to an injury of an illegal move).

Loss by default.

Lies - it took him 20.
Ref was late on the call!

It was funny because I was there with my father and he wanted to beat traffic out of there, so we left the bleachers with the plan to watch from the entrance and beat everyone out the door as soon as it was over, but by the time we got down the steps, the poor kid was on his back lol.

Grades for the weights, individuals, or team today? Anyone want to weigh in? Here's a quick stab:

125 F (Truant; Cloud hidden, whereabouts unknown)
133 B (2 wins but not expected dominance in match 1; better in the match 2 against weak opponent)
141. A- (dominant performance, per usual)
149. C (first match) and B (second match)
157. B (showed some rust but eventually got it going, if a bit sloppy at the end)
165 B/B+. Adequate but not stellar
174. C First match flaws and jitter; hung in there; but very underwhelming given expectations
184. A- (dominant performances)
197 C+ (substitute students; good efforts but outmatched)
285 A- (dominant performance although against weaker opponents)

Team Grade (vs. IU) C-
Team Grade (vs. NU) B-
Overall Grade: C

Recommendation: Detention (extra practice and lots of homework)

Comment: This performance is not going to get it done against the best teams. Only one month to right the ship and find a healthy and fired-up lineup. Against Iowa, 141 and 184 would have a good chance of winning. 133 and 157 might be tossups. Without big improvement, the other matches would be clear losses. PSU needs to be dominant up and down the lineup, but presently is a long way from that.
