Midlands Tournament Thread

I guess Nick wanted to go to Rutgers to forget about any and all offense that he may have had. Wow. What a snooze fest. He didn't do sh!t. Wrestled not to loose the entire match.

Now, Gross is f**.

Send the game tape to Nolf, Zain, and Bo he's coming for the Hodge.

maybe you shouldnt get the RT if you dont get a NF...... just say'n

just a reminder that it's a great help to include scores in discussions.

To assist, here are the scores from the finals that have been completed:

125: Nick Suriano (Rutgers) dec over Ronnie Bresser (Oregon St.), 2-1
133: Seth Gross (S. Dakota) fall over Bryan Lantry (Buffalo), at 2:47
141: Mason Smith (CMU) dec over Cole Weaver (Indiana), 6-0
149: Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) dec over Justin Oliver (CMU), 4-2

carry on

I guess if you are a fan of matches going into sudden victory tied at one, then this has been a great tournament.

I truly don't mean this as a knock on anyone because no matter how you do it, it is a feat to win any tournament and beat ranked guys, but as others on here say regularly, I am really thankful to be able to watch the exciting wrestlers that we have.

Hey I just checked out the team scores. Penn State finished 2nd to last without anyone stepping onto a mat. Imagine what we would have done if our full lineup showed up!

Right. Pretty much all the Hawks but Kemerer and Lee have embraced the "Iowa style" against any opponent with a pulse. May be a couple other exceptions on occasion, but it's mostly true.
Not to be a two-faced dumbass, but against the only kid who dared to wrestle Spencer, Spencer wrestled the Iowa style.

157: Michael Kemerer (Iowa) dec over Josh Shields (ASU), 5-2
165: Alex Marinelli (Iowa) dec over Jon Schiefer (Princeton), 3-1, SV1
174: Zahid Valencia (ASU) major over David Kocer (S Dakota), 18-7
184: Emery Parker (Illinois) dec over Nate Jackson (Princeton), 8-2
197: Cash Wilcke (Iowa) dec over Frank Mattiace (U of PA), 3-1, SV1
285: Sam Stoll (Iowa) dec over Tanner Hall (ASU), 2-1

Most of those finals matches were absolutely painful to watch.

Maybe the worst Midlands finals I've ever seen.

+1 to both comments. 165, 197, 285, and 125 didn't have a TD in 28 minutes of non-overtime wrestling. 149 was boring too, although a scoring bonanza by comparison with six points scored and (gasp) a TD.

You're right, but I'm giving Lee a pass, as I suspect that match was an aberration.
I don't know. I am thinking, for at least right now, other kids that can challenge him on his feet and can get off the bottom are going to prove difficult for him. That list obviously is not very long, but it is also now obvious freeingthelee is not a slam dunk national championship either.
