Watched that match and then I just watched Wilke-Warner. You are 100% correct.
Marinelli wrestles as if taking ground and stalking scores points in the NCAA rules. He takes 1 or 2 shots a match against people with a pulse, and they are nice shots, but possibly they are so effective because the other guy is in shock. (a joke for you Hawk fans that contribute on here). No interest in any mat wrestling except to avoid giving up a RT. He could possibly have as nice a career as Sorenson, but doubtful as he can't ride near as well as Sorenson. You can't win NCs wrestling like that. Must be a nice kid from all accounts but boring as hell on the mat. Now some Hawk fan will pull out a fall or a lot of points against somebody ranked #27 as evidence to the contrary.
Warner looks like he has some offense, but I just watched a period where he and Wilke spent the entire 1st period 3 minutes without either guy touching his knee to the mat. I did see a bunch of stalking at the edge to keep the other guy from returning to center from both guys - they probably learned this from Marinelli. He had one shot in the 2nd which was tremendous and would have scored against most anyone - it got waved off for some reason - IDK timeout or something called just before. Wilke wins in OT after getting jobbed on a bad stall call at the buzzer, but Warner is more talented but just mystifying in that match.
Guys wrestle like this in the B&W and we are calling them Morelli and looking for them to get replaced in the lineup. They've got Kemerer who wrestles, and I'm sure Spencer will. Beyond that, nobody who is a threat on the mat (EDIT - excuse me, Sorenson is a threat to get RIDING TIME on the mat) and most look for the OOB shoot/push out as the first option to score, with an occasional pot shot high-c as second option. Third option is the 3rd period busy neutral offense looking for the stall again. Marinelli is extremely quick and has some nice shots, gets good penetration and finishes fast. Somebody should tell him that if he gets taken down the match doesn't end.
