NCAA's - brackets, seeds and other discussions

I just heard on radio that Trump is going to Philadelphia.I think they said Saturday.
Allow extra time to get in.
He's traveling with Jim Jordan ( 2 time champ for Wisconsin )and Dave McCormick who they said wrestled for West Point. I never heard that.??

If anything like Daytona 500 was, you'll be emptying pockets, going through metal detectors and wanded by the secret service. Took an hour to get through line at the race.

Assuming he doesn't keep growing.

This is what I wonder. Levi bumped two weight classes from one year to the next and he certainly hasn't looked undersized AT ALL this year. I'm not an insider and don't spend any time around the team, but have seen a number of people who claimed that Ryder's short and that his best weight class is likely 174. I'm sure that Barr and Connor Mirasola are both options at 184, but they would both be HUGE 184s at this point, so I wouldn't be at all disappointed if Levi bumped again and Ryder or someone else slid in at 174.

Not trying to rag on him - seems like a very hard worker. Just being honest regarding my opinion - I think he has an up-hill battle to AA at all, let alone a mid-level AA such as 4th or 5th (4th would be a huge feat given that you'd not just have to make it past the blood-round, but he'd have to make it all the way to the Consi-Bracket Finals.).

I'm not saying he couldn't prove my opinion completely wrong (I hope he does!), but he'd have to have a Tournament like he hasn't had since last year's BiGs.
He will probably lose in the semis and then he's all American either way lol how's that

I do think he looks undersized still. I think we will do better team wise if he stays put.

What were the fewest #1 seeds to win the NC and what year might it have been?

I ask this because this year has the potential to challenge the record. The way I see it 165 and 285 are the only weights with a heavy favorite. All the others have 3 or more nearly even contenders.

125 - 5 or 6 legit candidates
133 - same
141 - Beau, Mendez, Alirez, and Hardy
149 - Hanson, SVN, Lovett ... maybe Webster
157 - Kasak, Meyer ... maybe Cannon or Taylor
165 - Mitch ... longshot Caliendo
174 - Levi, O'Toole, Hamiti
184 - Star, Keckeisen, McEnelly
197 - Barr, Cardenas, Buchanon, AJ
285 - Steveson ... Greg with a fighter's chance
To add to what others have already provided...

Since 1979, the year they went from 6 to 8 All-Americans, or 45 years of wrestling, here are a few facts:
-- the fewest #1 seeds to earn an individual championship happened in 1981, with 2. There were 3 #1 seeds to win an individual championship in 1982, 2014 and 2021.

-- In those 45 years the AVERAGE #1 seeds each year to win an individual championship is 5.3.

-- The highest number of #1 seeds to win an individual championship over those 45 years is 7, done 10 times, the latest being 2012.

-- Only twice has an unseeded wrestler won a NC, in 1980 and 1994. They seeded to 12 in those days. Only one other seed above #12 has won an individual championship. #13 seeded Cody Brewer won 133 in 2015.

-- In those 45 years, aside from a #1 seed winning 53.1% on the time, a 2nd seed has won 23.1%, a #3 seed 9.5%, a #4 seed 4.3%, a #5 seed 3.6%, a #6 seed 2.6%, a #7 seed .5%, and a #8 seed 1.7%. The remainder are won by seeds 9 and above.

Just reading the wall. I’m positive infinity that’s what it said. Are you in club with Stew and Jeanne? Had lunch with them in Evanston. Great people!

This is not a political statement (it would be the same whether I like him as a president or not), but that just altered my plans.

Normally, I fly home on Saturday morning and watch the finals at home. Thursday night to Friday night is my favorite time of the tournament and watching the finals at home is comfortable (and usually I need to NOT be out on Saturday night after the excesses of Thursday and Friday). The only time I've stayed for Saturday is the last time it was in Philly. I was planning on doing the same this time - once a decade seeing the finals in person is enough.

But not now. Saturday night is already a bit of a sh*tshow compared to the other sessions in terms of the crowd, etc. I can't imagine what a PITA it will be now. Half of the crowd will probably miss some matches.

For what it’s worth, there was 0 impact in Tulsa.

Total coincidence come on lmfao
It probably is, tbh. Beau is also one of the most likeable guys in all of wrestling and was snakebit last year. He's probably someone who is an outsider is likely going to say they "don't mind if he wins" for PSU, if they are asked. Do you really think madden didn't say 125 because he believes Cruz can win? C'mon, LOL.

Only one other seed above #12 has won an individual championship. #13 seeded Cody Brewer won 133 in 2015.
Brewer 2015 is by far the worst seed in the past 15 years (at least) including Carter last year.

Brewer was 17-1 and B12 champ. Yes, fewer matches than most guys. Still, 17-1 and avenged the only loss at B12s.

Here were the records prior to NCAAs of the 12 guys seeded ahead of him, in order:
23-0, 23-3, 26-5, 28-6, 23-6 (all B10)
25-6 (B12 runner-up to Brewer)
22-7, 36-5, 19-2, 25-5, 26-8, 26-8

Brewer at 13 was an obviously dumb seed before the matches started, and worse afterward.

Not the only one either. The 19-2 guy waa AJ Schopp -- 9 seed, took 3rd.

I'm going to have 6 TV's in my main basement area: (1) 85", & (5) 50". We will have Matcast with the first four mats on the 85" and mats 5-8 on the other 4. When there is good space for one PSU guy on the mat at a time, we will put that on the 85". I'll have Byer's call Bluetooth into the surround sound. Then, I have another smaller TV in the back above the bar that will have basketball on for a couple of my friends. (I follow it a little bit just because I put in a bracket).

Like every year, I'm like a kid anxiously waiting for Christmas to arrive. I can't wait!

That's pretty impressive. You could sell tickets to that set up.

I originally posted the Trump visit as a separate thread just to notify fan base of possible logistic issues for those coming in for Saturday finals . No other reason than that.
The moderator must of thought that it could create an issue. I just wanted people to know for travel and possible delays. I'm glad I helped you before buying tickets ,ect .

I, for one, appreciated the heads up.

Keck and McN would both be 195 by Sat night. Im rootin for McN in semis.
Keck wont make the same mistake McN did to lose to CS.
I am VERY concerned about Keck in finals.
When are weigh-ins for finals. Is it before Afternoon Session? Finalist should weigh in 3 hours before the expected match times.
Finals are 7pm
First weight weighs in at 4pm
Last weight weighs in at 6pm

Hope it ends up like his visit for the Ohio State game. Don't want the extra distraction on what should be another historic night for our boys

Tan Tom just makes it too easy to ridicule. COVID year cancelled Nationals credit? What's the explanation.?
Moore and Pletcher were both #1 seeds in 2020. Since there was no NCAA tourney, that's good enough to make the National Champ wall in Covelli.

By this standard, someone should tell Mark Hall that he won another natty in 2020.

I don't even want to know what is in your auxiliary basement.
