NCAA's - pre-tournament discussions

No idea where to put this. I was just looking at FLO’s predictions for 141 and they had listed last years AA’s. Echemendia was an AA last year and I thought he still had eligibility. Did he get hurt this season?

Yes.

Then they decided to do the Bastida RS and wait for 141/49 to clear out. He’ll probably look for the medical rs this year and have 2 years left if he gets a medical.

Okay....I'm going to be that clueless guy that has to ask:

I have a large screen Smart TV and a laptop, and access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and streaming on ESPN3. What's the best way to watch the NCAA's?

My preference would be to have my laptop in front of me so I have easy access to TrackWrestling and this forum, and then have ESPN3 on my TV. I seem to recall that the ESPN3 platform is a fairly easy to use, and has a good setup to be able to flip to individual mats so I can see PSU wrestlers and the best matches. Then in later rounds to begin to watch more of the coverage on the main ESPN channels with commentary.

My least favorite option would be if the ESPN3 setup is cumbersome, to have to watch that on my laptop and have the main coverage on ESPNU and ESPN2 in the early rounds.

Any advice will be appreciated.

PS: My B10 tourney experience was terrible. I couldn't stream B10 Plus to my TV (weird tech issue I have w/ B10 Plus) and had to watch early rounds and consolation/wrestlebacks on B10 Plus on my laptop.

A roku device was the way I watched the Big 10. I even used it to watch the finals so I could watch SVN and BB in the third place matches.

For the finals I think you must have ESPN+. You could watch all eight screens on the laptop and watch the PSU matches on a larger screen. I usually have 2 tvs and a laptop going at one time.

Hmmm....interesting thought. I imagine I could have ESPN+ (are EPSN3 and ESPN+ one in the same?) on both my laptop and on the smart TV. Not sure how that might effect the streaming to one or the other. I am concerned about the ease of use on multi-mats on my TV. I have to use the remote to flip around the different mats, but seem to recall the ESPN+ (ESPN3) has a better and more convenient setup. Tabs for all mats right there on the platform....as opposed to B10+ and having to open a seperate screen for each mat in order to have each ready.

I'd love to have an extra TV, but not an option.

Main tv is ESPN+ so I can tune into individual matches and ESPN main channel on the computer. I use my phone to follow the threads on here. Although on Sunday, I’ll be listening to Byers live call for the championship, another drive to Idaho and I’m all moved in!

I didn't know I could stream ESPN to my computer. Do you need anything special to do that. That would be ideal.

I’m sure whatever provider you have you can pull it up on your computer. I have YouTube tv, so I’ll log onto my computer for that and ESPN+ for individual mats.

That's just Cael speak. I am optimistic about Barr but not because of that.
Yes, typical Cael-speak in such situations; we've seen this movie a few time before. Could be code for torn ligament, who knows?

Given the likelihood that Barr will be at least somewhat limited, my expectations are lowered. Whereas pre-injury a high AA (top 4) finish seemed very reasonable, now making the podium at all might be considered a big win. And holding seed at #4 would be an amazing tournament.

Just hoping that Barr isn't severely limited or hobbled. But the way he came off the mat against Salazar didn't look great.

Yes, you should be able to stream ESPN content to your computer, as long as you subscribe to ESPN via cable etc. Go to www.ESPN.com > "Schedule & Replays" tab > under Networks pulldown, select ESPN > click the blue link to the show or content you want to watch > choose your TV provider, then you SB good to go! I just tried it and it works for me.

I made a chart to help me watch NCAAs. The approximate end times for each session and the mat numbers are based on what happened in Kansas City last year. Also, maybe you call the various consis/WBs by different names. Maybe this will be useful to you? FYI, on my large desktop monitor, I open 8 windows (not tabs) using MS Edge, resizing each window so that I have all 8 mats (ESPN+) on my monitor.

Disagree, CS's statements in the past about injuries just prior to the post-season were far more equivocal.... his statement regarding Barr are completely unequivocal and not similar to prior statements regarding injuries prior to NCAAs or B1Gs.

Here is his exact quote:

"We had to kind of carry him off the mat in his last match at [the] Big Ten [Championships], but he’ll be ready to go and he’ll be scrapping on Thursday next week," Sanderson said on the Penn State Coaches Show. "So we’re happy for him. He's ready to go."

There is no uncertainty in it at all - he's unequivocal that JB is "ready to go". The video of JB's last match does not suggest ligament damage in any way contrary to what the OP said. The video of his last match coupled with CS's statement suggest it was a temporary hamstring problem imho.

This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing this.

I'm not saying it's as minor as a charley horse but I've had those where I couldn't walk at all in the moment and it's okay the next day. Josh's leg looks like it just gave out (after he was previously limping already) Initial fear was a tear of something.

Basch's optimism afterwards (and continued push that he's a contender) and Cael's comments makes me think it's something Monthley can take care of. Wouldn't be shocked if Barr has to adjust his style a bit but the kid is very good at that.

I like to run two tv’s; one showing the action on all eight mats and the second showing just the match I’m most interested in at that time. A 3rd TV would prob be too much for me.

I just saw him shopping at Wegmans. Nothing noticeably impairing his shopping ability! And Wegmans on the weekend is only slightly less intense than the NCAAs ;)

Agree that Roku is the best smart TV platform. I stopped buying the devices and now have a Roku TV as my main TV and a Westinghouse with Roku built in in the MBR.

Funny. Just came here to post official sighting. Also at Wegmans. Looked fine. Wished him luck.
Now this is the kind of information I pay f…demand! Top notch investigative reporting gentleman

These two posts should be moved to a thread of their own! Excellent investigative reporting and great news for Josh and PSU wrestling fans! Best news I've heard all week.

Granted, wrestling in the NCAA tourney is a bit more strenuous than walking thru Wegmans, although I've had some interesting tussles with other Wegman's shoppers trying to grab that last sale item :p

She has to put up with a lot from the filthy, uncouth male mob that is (the overwhelmingly vast?) majority of this board (me included)
I don’t know 1989 but I appreciate the service, gender non-specific. I have a few sources that are probably still close to Cael, but I haven’t asked them about anything since the Mark Hall redshirt days😁
