Glad he did, but far too passive the majority of the match, as you noted.Pulls it out but his strategy was pretty weird for 2 periods. Great double at the end

assad continuing to look better each time out. feeling optimistic on that front.Yeah… it takes time to get back into wrestling shape. I don’t know, I think he’s gonna have trouble making it through the year though. What a warrior. Shame his body is breaking down.
Carver is gonna be rock in’. The best team doesn’t always win there. The advantage they have in front of that crowd should never be ignored. If PSU get a ref that has an ounce of spine they'll have no problem with these guys.
See, I don’t see anything all that impressive yet considering who he has beaten since taking the loss to the hs kid. Time will tell..assad continuing to look better each time out. feeling optimistic on that front.
The dual is in Carver, they aren't getting a ref capable of making non Iowa calls. If PSU get a ref that has an ounce of spine they'll have no problem with these guys.
Jrjt is giving counsel to Brennan Swafford's brother to stay cool on the forum.I’m really trying my best not to go over there and Troll them over this. Especially Jrjt. Lol

Lol. Oh the irony in that.Jrjt is giving counsel to Brennan Swafford's brother to stay cool on the forum.
Sounds like Brands had a secret of his own.I needed the Google machine’s help to catch up on Brands Bros latest clowning move:
“We like Brennan Swafford,” Brands added. “Taking him out of redshirt is a no-brainer.
Iowa men’s wrestler Brennan Swafford to make Carver-Hawkeye Arena debut
Iowa men’s wrestling senior Brennan Swafford picked his walkout song moments before he met with reporters over Zoom on Wednesday. But his selection will remain a mystery until Friday night, when Swafford makes his Hawkeye debut at 174 pounds against Minnesota. “I’m going to keep it a secret,”...dailyiowan.com
Agreed. Underhooks on that shoulder and forcing him shoot with that lead are going to be coached.fwiw, in 2020 i saw him wrestle his first match back live against covaciu and he looked much worse than that and nearly lost. he thumped mark hall a month later. the brace is concerning though.
Bold prediction (ok, maybe not so bold) but Coach Brands and Swafford better make up quick. I think we are seeing the last few matches of Kems career. I don’t believe he makes it to Nationals and if not, sad ending to a great career.Agreed. Underhooks on that shoulder and forcing him shoot with that lead are going to be coached.
I can't imagine he will have either the stamina or HP he once had unfortunately.
What a wonderful mess.
I experienced some personal growth last night I’m proud of myself even if no one else is. The old Jts would have been over there all night stirring up trouble and sticking in daggers wherever he could find a spot. The new me on the other hand stayed away to avoid the temptation. But I did have to get up early this morning. That may or may not have played a role in my decision. I’ll let you guys wonder if it did. LmaoThe swafford meltdown last night is very interesting internetting.
You got mineo playing him like a violin on tweeter.
You got the outer circle on the tHR first hammering him than walking him back as the night drew on.
What a wonderful mess.
Was the Brands brand just joshing Joshua when the redshirt was pulled?
Someone made the point that wrestling attached at the Scuffle meant Iowa paid for the trip. That's travel, hotel, meals, etc. It looked to me like the bigger issue might have been that the wrestler and his family believed until the last moment that he was wrestling. He had picked out his entry music and there were articles written about his debut. A failure to communicate clearly by the coaching staff, it would seem. But we don't have all the info and we never will. Was the Brand brand just joshing Joshua when the redshirt was pulled?
If HR is part of a perceived solution, you are already doomed. The swafford meltdown last night is very interesting internetting.

I laugh every time watching the four clowns about 4 rows back. Two of them actually thought Brooks pinned Bo.Felt like seeing this again
Every year I think the drama with that team has peaked, another season rolls around and tops it. Their fans must find it exhausting. The swafford meltdown last night is very interesting internetting.

When it's widely lionized that you relax w a chainsaw....this is what you are bound to get.Every year I think the drama with that team has peaked, another season rolls around and tops it. Their fans must find it exhausting.

fwiw, i agree with him. i posted a more detailed explanation on HR in the grades thread, but to sum up, my concern is that instead of being the best version of big tony, he's made himself an inferior version of parris or kerk. i'd pick kerk today.Idk if we can make that conclusion from tonight. Gable beat him 16-6 and 15-6 last year. Maybe if he got turned.
I had a similar thought. This situation perfectly illustrates the main difference between Brands and Cael. Cael strategizes a plan with the big picture in mind. Brands flys by the seat of his pants. All of the insiders on HR are saying this was Kem’s decision at the last minute.Definitely a illustration that Brand's genius at times is limited by impulsiveness and a focus on the moment. You can't help to wonder if he wasn't reacting to Mineos post just to burn him, and losing sight of what's best for the team realative to Swafford, which granted is of lesser concern. Unlikely, but sad if there is even a shred of truth to it. The optics created by the curious timing are not favorable. It could have been handled differently for sure.
....
Cael's plan was to redshirt Mark Hall. Mark vetoed that plan by playing the "you told me it would be up to me" card.I had a similar thought. So Brands pulls a kids redshirt, tells his whole family that he’ll be wrestling, and then gets his plan vetoed by his athlete at the last hour. LOL. Can’t imagine Cael let’s one of his athletes veto the plan they have in place.
Exactly. It's the chess and checkers analogy. Cael is playing on a totally different level than Brands.I had a similar thought. That depends on what mood Slush is in… I don't suspect an explanation is forthcoming …

Shots firedThis is the issue.
Tom Brands is just not that smart of a person. He has passion & is a good man, but he’s not that smart.
If wrestling didn’t exist, Tom would probably be a high school gym teacher - and brother Terry would be living in a van down by the river.
Impulsivity definitely seems to be an issue with the Brandses. Sometimes it’s cute, but too often is in boorish territory.I had a similar thought. I guess checkers is on a 2 year win streak.Exactly. It's the chess and checkers analogy. Cael is playing on a totally different level than Brands.

Context.Totally different. The kid that didn't wrestle had his shirt pulled at the Scuffle. He could have gone unattached. To put the icing on the cake he was told (and it was published) he was going to debut at Carver last night.
Imagine being a transfer in as a Kem insurance policy. Say he gets at 20% Scholy. If Kem goes this year he shirts and wrestles next year (2 years of aid), if Kem can't he burns his shirt and gets to wrestle.
If there was any chance of Kem going this year, let alone on the 10th of January, you don't pull a kid's shirt a week earlier.
Now the kid is stuck at Iowa, his shirt is gone, of Kem stays healthy he doesn't get to wrestle, and next year lacking eligibility, he has to pay for his own tuition 100%. Most kids would at least question why the F@#$ did I come here in the first place?
The ONLY weak rationale I can muster is maybe Brands wants them to go dual duty hoping Swafford gets enough quality wins that if Kem can't make it, Swaf both qualifies and gets a seed for insurance? Fat chance. If that's the case then you lay it out for the kid ahead of time, or he should have had his shirt pulled in November - which obviously didn't happen.
