With the season down the toilet, hopefully they give some of the other QBs a shot. Clifford ain’t the guy and we need to check the status on the rest before hitting the portal.

We bring 2 LBs to the LOS and blitz one. The problem is the one that doesn't blitz is in bad position to make a play.
A lot of it is the blocking schemes. They're often designed to double team and let a defensive lineman free, and usually that guy can get to either the QB or RB. Doesn't matter who carries the ball. We can't execute that stuff the way it is drawn up.
Let's not forget that tonight, man to man, our linemen were up against a higher tier. We wouldn't expect to blow them off the ball, nor hold blocks long enough to throw bombs. We have to scheme smarter. That's what's missing. Can't expect a kid to do something when they are overmatched.
I assume most of this board is teetering on alcoholism after the first two weeks of the season.
This isn't the greatest OSU team I have ever seen. No one in the BIG can run on that D line so it becomes a one-sided game. The problem will be Clemson, if that game happens. Their QB/RB combo is near unstoppable.

We need to stop wasting the first half of games on offense.
We pulled Fries and let his man blow up many plays.
Yep, let's double team the DT and let the DE blow up the mesh point, play after play after play after play after play. Where have i seen that before?
They say Franklin is a players coach.....well that crap isn’t working. It’s time he start worrying more about winning and less about the players liking him. We can’t block, we can’t tackle, we can’t cover anyone, we can’t run the ball against anyone with a pulse.......there used to be a time when PSU football was known for fundamentals and execution.....and what do you know we often won despite having less “talent” on the field. Now we recruit 4 and 5 star guys and get beat because we don’t do the little things correctly.

We've had some complete misses in our classes. Shorter, Slade. Parsons is gone. Cain is hurt.
I am a big James fan but I am beginning to wonder if he can recruit a complete football team. Holes at the receiving position. Safety help is needed. We are not very deep. Is Clifford a top tier QB.
Total nonsense. PSU almost never won with less talent because they only had less talent maybe one game year.
That’s also a pretty big discrepancy. Wait til OSU adds their top 2 class for 2021
It wasn't just Fries. It seems most of the time we double team and let at least one of their four linemen run free. That's a disaster when the mesh point is slow and in the same place every play. Couldn't be easier for the defensive line. Even Barkley had trouble getting free.
I get how the QB is supposed to read the DE but we rarely do it well. A lot of it is that we don't move the mesh point. It seems slow and at times doesn't even look like Clifford is making a read. I wonder if the blocking is even matching the direction of the play. We'll let the DE in front of Fries free, run to the left, and that free DE will easily make the play, because we waste time during the QB/RB handshake.
If it were up to me Clifford would not be making a DE read. He'd be focused on what the defensive secondary is doing, or handing the ball to the RB.
If we're going to be so vanilla in the backfield then block the damn man in front of you. Do I need to be the offensive coordinator?
Clifford is very obviously not top tier. And he wasn’t meant to be. I’d argue he was a depth or plan B recruit. Levis too. At some point, you need to land that top tier QB prospect and develop him. You can’t keep relying on finding Trace McSorley diamonds in the rough.

You are right and WRs want to play with top tier QBs as well which once you fine the top QB you can unusually get top WRs to come to
And OL protection is easier for a top tier QB. It’s amazing how the game comes together when you have a really good player behind center.
Yeah, there is a talent discrepancy between the Buckeyes and Penn State; unfortunately, the biggest difference seems to be at the most important position, Quarterback.
Who exactly? Levis? Roberson? Cliff hung in there and played pretty well under extreme duress. Right now, need to try and get to .500 by end of year (or before Big10 folds season)...not a given.
