Clifford is very obviously not top tier. And he wasn’t meant to be. I’d argue he was a depth or plan B recruit. Levis too. At some point, you need to land that top tier QB prospect and develop him. You can’t keep relying on finding Trace McSorley diamonds in the rough.
Going back a half century there were many years where I would have loved to have had a QB that can throw as well as Sean Clifford.
People here are salivating over Fields. Well Fields isn't getting his bell rung every other play, and his receivers, if not wide open, can make circus catches.
Our QBs get thrown in behind porous line play, and (to me) flawed blocking schemes, and then we wonder why their performance isn't perfect.
Fields wasn't the 2nd coming early in his career either. There is a reason he left Georgia, and I doubt very much whether it had anything to do with racism.
The expectations that Franklin's system puts on a QB are ridiculous. I have yet to see a great passer that is also a great runner that is producing great numbers without an incredibly good supporting cast. And that includes the coaching staff.
There is no free lunch. No offensive scheme produces an extra man without paying a price in some other way. Our price has been QB development. We stunt their growth.
