Is anyone using this? It is free. What are your thoughts. My feeling is it is not ready for primetime. Cannot get local channels outside my home.

I use Xfinity but do more recording and then stream what I want to watch off the DVR. You are correct that you cannot stream all channels that are carried on the cable package. I like that you can stream all channels to any device (PC/laptop, tablet, phone) if you are on your home network.

I am currently TOTALLY PISSED at Comcast-Xfinity (or maybe I should say I. AM. OUTRAGED) that they took away the ability to set DVR recordings from the phone app or web interface. They lost a patent decision with Tivo a couple of weeks ago and disabled this feature. I rarely set recordings directly on the DVR before this because I could do it while I was away. Now I'm pissed enough that I've started looking at buying a Tivo to replace their DVR. Need to check in with Verizon to see if they have done the same thing.

Any Tivo users out there? Is it just time to cut the cord?

That does suck on the DVR setting. I am going to miss that.

I've only used the XFinity streaming on my laptop at home while the kids are using the Xbox - works really well for me.

Use it all the time to download shows and watch them. Especially when going away on a trip or on a plane. Live TV is ok, just need a good WiFi connection. Like any other App, it is not perfect, just have to figure it out and adapt to what they give you.

I'm under the impression that the remote features that were disabled will be reengineered then launched again in the future.

For me, I have returned my set boxes so I no longer pay rent on them. That saves about $20/month. Plus, my Showtime, Hbo can now be streamed on any TV and no box is needed for them. So there is some saving and as I said before, it is free for now as long as you have their other service. Local stations must be watched in the address registered with Comcast but the other things can be viewed anywhere.

I am going to give the new Hulu beta a try after the holidays. Looks good with full DVR in the cloud and it includes local TV channels.
