160 - Edsell (Wyalusing) vs. Farber (N. Lehigh)

@bbedford62 oughta be pleased with this one

170 - defending champ Oliver (Huntington) vs. Group (Susquenita)

Oliver looks like a prison guard with that stache and Army haircut. Group has a bad pre-pubescent wispy stache.

1st: Oliver shot, gets behind, mat lift out of bound, no score. Oliver another go-behind, rolls out, no score, 1:10 left. Oliver single to double but goes out, no score. Group slick high crotch, T2, 0:45 left. E1 Oliver, 2-1 Group. Oliver high crotch with 10 sec left, rides out the period. 3-2 Oliver after 1.

2nd: Oliver takes down. Oliver up, Group can't hit mat lift but they go out, 1:48 left. Oliver up, cut, E1, 4-2 Oliver. Oliver on another high crotch, T2, 6-2, 1:20 left. 3rd: Group takes top. Oliver up, goes to switch 8 sec in, R2, 8-2. Oliver smothering Group on top. Locks up reinforced bar, goes bar + far half, Group fights out of that but can't get off mat. Bottom stall, P1, 0:15 left.

9-2 Oliver final.

182: Dominic Fundy (Bethleham-Center) vs. Cody Mulligan (Saegertown)

Per 1
OOB with 54 sec left. OOB with 26 sec. Mulligan in on a single but they are OOB with 9 sec. End. Not a lot of action

Per 2
Mulligan takes bottom. He's up, and Fundy pushes him away, 0-1. Mulligan in on a single, pulled Fundy back in to bounds, and got the TD, 0-3. OOB at 1:26. Not a lot of action on bottom, and a stall warning on Fundy. Fundy to his base but broken back down. End

Per 3
Fundy picks neutral. OOB at 1:43. Stalling on Fundy makes it 0-4. Mulligan in on a single off the whistle and gets the TD, 0-6. Fundy doing nothing on bottom. In his defense, Mulligan is a bull on top. Really surprised the ref hasn't hit Fundy for another stall call. OOB at 24 sec. Caution on ?? Half-hearted roll that nearly got stuffed by Mulligan, but no swipes. And that's the match

182 - Dominic Fundy (Beth Center) vs. Cody Mulligan (Saegertown)

1st: Not a ton of action. Mulligan dropped down, Fundy attempted go-behind but they went out, 0:45 left. Lots of underhooks to the edge. Mulligan underhook, drops to a single, but they go out with 9 sec left. Scoreless after 1.

Bottom stall on Fundy, 1:05 left. Mulligan riding tough with spiral ride and wrist control, but not doing anything special. Fundy just can't do anything on bottom. 3-0 Mulligan after 2.

3rd: Fundy takes feet. Fundy immediately backing up on feet, stalling, P1 Mulligan, 4-0. Mulligan single, T2, 6-0, 1:30 left. Mulligan mothering Fundy on top. Ref gives them a questionable edge restart with 0:24 left, probably fell asleep on the whistle. Mulligan looks for quick crab ride half on restart and almost gets Fundy to his back, but no score.

6-0 Mulligan final.

Poor effort by Fundy. I don't understand how an undefeated wrestler takes feet while down 4-0 and immediately starts backing up to the edge. And he had his head down on the restarts. Mulligan broke him -- but it's not like he did anything spectacular.

Camera panning to a lot of fans yawning.

195: Gavin Hoffman (Montoursville) vs Anthony Walter (Bishop McCort)

could be another good match -- two elite wrestlers

Per 1
Stalemate at 1:29. Hoffman shoots, nothing, shoots again, nothing on the edge. Stoppage to return to center at 1:09. OOB at 53 sec. Hoffman with a duck under for the TD, and a quick esc, 2-1. Hoffman tries another duck to a single, but he gets the TD as they go OOB, 4-1, with 12 sec. OOB at 4 sec. End

Per 2
Walters takes bottom. Up quickly, tries to hit a switch but OOB at 1:54. Up and out, 4-2. Stalemate on the edge at 1:38. Walters with a double, switches to a single, Hoffman with a whizzer and does a split, and Walters limp-arms out of the whizzer and gets the TD, 4-4. PD stoppage at 57 sec. Hoffman works out and Walters cuts him, 5-4. Hoffman reaches, blocked. Hoffman in on a low single, Walters splits, and Hoffman gets the TD on the edge, 7-4. Stalemate with 9 sec. Walters works up, but time ends

Per 3
Hoffman takes bottom. Walters elects to let him up, so it's 8-4. Hoffman reaches, nothing, then Walters reaches, nothing, and OOB at 1:38. Walters seems frustrated. Hoffman reaches for an ankle, nothing. OOB with 1:15. Hoffman reaches, blocked, reaches again, nothing. Stalemate at 42 sec. Hoffman shoots and gets a single, they are on the edge, and they are OOB with 19 sec. Hoffman reaches again, blocked, and Walters nearly snaps down and gets behind, then Hoffman nearly ducks under but nothing awarded and time runs out.

Not as good a match as I was expecting.

Congrats to the kid from Chestnut Ridge and district 5 for the championship at 145.

And it was pretty emotional for the CR folks. Their first and only state champion (before today), Gary Pfhaler, passed away at a young age just a couple of weeks ago. That program, from my vantage point, is a pretty close-knit family. I'm happy for them.

220: Cole Nye (Bishop McDevitt) vs. Josiah Jones (Bishop McCort)

Nye is a returning champ.

This is a rematch of last year's finals, won in UTB by Nye

Jones with a TD on a throw by on a counter, 0-2. OOB. OOB at 1:32. Nye up quickly and out, 1-2. Nye going to MSU next year. OOB with 33 sec. End

Per 2
Jones takes bottom, and Nye pretty much releases him, 1-3. Jones nearly with a TD but they are OOB with 1:27. OOB at 1:03. OOB at 42 sec. OOB with 23 sec. End

Per 3
Nye takes bottom. Nye stands and Jones cuts him, 2-3. OOB at 1:47. Jones reaches, blocked, and OOB at 1:37. Nye reaches, and OOB at 1:19. Stall warning on Jones (questionable, IMHO). OOB at 1:06. Blood stoppage for Jones. OOB at 38 sec. Bloood on the mat so a stoppage. OOB with 16 sec. Nye reaches, blocked then a duck under for a TD with 12 sec left, and he wins 4-3. Wow. Jones had it, and got sloppy at the end.

220 - defending champ Nye (Bishop McDevitt) vs. Jones (Bishop McCort)

Side notes, rematch of last year's final. Also, Nye wrestled 195 most of the year (but moved up because Hoffman, lost 10-2 earlier in the year).

1st: Jones T2, 10 sec in, Nye appeared to slip and Jones pounded. Nye up and out, E1, 1:27 left, 2-1 Jones. Not much more action, 2-1 after 1.

2nd: Jones takes down. Quick E1, 3-1 Jones. Jones with go-behind but they go out, 1:27 left. They trade shots from impossibly far out but no real offense. 3-1 Jones after 2.

3rd: Nye takes down. Up quick, Jones cuts him, 3-2 Jones. Jones pushing the action (as much as there is) while leading. Three out of bounds stoppages, each time Nye steps out. Nye makes one move and gets stall call on Jones, they go out, blood stoppage on Jones, 1:06 left. Jones shot on restart, stuffed, no score.Nye doing a lot of circling but no shooting. Blood stoppage on Jones, 0:39 left. Nye working, Jones mostly blocking but not backing up. Action goes out with 17 sec left. Nye immediate shot on whistle, stuffed, Jones gets front headlock but doesn't really work it, just lingers on knees and pays for it -- Nye hits a duck, T2, 12 sec left.

Yes, that's right -- Nye hit a duck while down by 1 to win!

4-3 Nye final.

Mostly boring match. Nye is going to Michigan State, and he's probably gonna struggle in the B10. He had no offense, and for most of the match didn't seem all that interested in generating offense.

Scheib up, Cahill drags him back down, 2-0 after 1.

2nd: Cahill takes down. Up immediately, Scheib didn't try to keep him down, E1, 3-0 Cahill. Scheib shot, gets headlocked from knees to back, Cahill converts to over/under for the pin.

agree on both counts

Is it "Berlin Brothers Valley"? Or is it "Berlin Brothersvalley"? Or is it "Berlinbrothersvalley"?

I've seen it all three ways believe it or not. Anyway, congrats to them. They are a co-op school are they not? I believe it's Berlin, Turkeyfoot Valley, and Rockwood combined?

There is the old duck under 20 seconds when the guy thinks your going to shoot...Just won him his 2nd Title....

Glad to watch Jaret Lane win a state title. Brought back some memories, as I saw his father win a state title in 1982 for North Schuylkill against a defending state champ.
