PA Class AAA Finals Thread

amazing what a nice thread bout the AAA finals has turned into.
I already knew the Lee DeSanto result from Twitter but when I saw how many pages this thread was I knew a dumpster fire had ignited, and the medical expertise of the e-doctors within had exponentially flourished.

Lee has had his issues in Hershey with his perceived "attitude" during his high school career from what I'm told from someone who attends PA states every year. So he is not, and probably has never been, the darling of the Hershey crowd.

What is this perceived attitude you mention? Can you elaborate? Just curious.

Assume they put him in the knee brace to support joint and prevent that possibility. Believe they would have kept him off knee completely for like 6 weeks if they were going to try heal it without surgery. But if he's going to have surgery now (which often leads to less scaring and a better longterm result, no?), they probably let him wrestle with the brace.

Spencer's dad was quoted as saying they would now go see the docs to determine what additional damage occurred due to the tourney. A calculated risk to get title #4. Hope he recovers 100%.

People were cheering because it was insanely exciting and improbable. That's the reality.

I am amazed at how many Iowa fans seem to think that all the fans in Hershey for the AAA finals were PSU fans who viewed this match only in terms of what it meant for Iowa and Lee as an Iowa recruit. WTF?

That has to be coming from Iowa fans who haven't got the memo that their program is no longer the center of the college wrestling world and not everything that happens has to explained away through some Iowa first, last and always egocentric world view.

PA HS wrestling has a long and storied history. It has knowledgeable and dedicated fans who have watched many great wrestlers and match ups over many decades at States. They have also watch many great champions leave the State and become great NCAA and World and Olympic champions. Lee deciding to go to Iowa is not the first or last time a premier HS wrestler will decide to leave the State to wrestle.

Now, all of the sudden when knowledgeable and dedicated fans from across PA (many who don't have any allegiance to PSU) cheer loudly for the outcome of a high profile match that had a super exciting ending.....it can't be anything but anti-Iowa bad manners by the fans? Give me a break.

Get over yourselves, Iowa fans, the wrestling world doesn't revolve around you and your also run team anymore and Iowa (and Lee going there) most certainly isn't any kind of meaningful factor in the minds of PA HS wrestling fans who came to watch the championship finals of the nation's best HS wrestling.

Yea, and don't they have an Iowa State tourney to watch? Oh I forgot, all their good wrestlers are coming from PA now ;)

AZChief started a thread about it on HR. Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

You are reaching and distorting and you know it. Not once have I even mentioned them by name. It is ALWAYS about the school and the admin and how they cheat, not the kids.....

So, cheap shot by you, and nowhere close to accurate either. Thx for playing.
I guess you forgot your post about you couldn't wait to watch Lee "destroy the kid from Beca" . Maybe it was poetic justice for you that Lee hurt his knee worst in the match against a Beca kid. The idea you don't root against the Beca kids is laughable.

He's the most two-faced poster I can think of.

When I first started posting here on a regular basis everybody said what a great poster AZChief is. I haven't seen it. All I've seen is a guy who is passive aggressive, is triggered easily, and is no better than the other delusional shitposters over on HR.

To be honest, this board would be better if he left. He should stick to being passive aggressive on HR.

If you look dispassionately at both boards, you'll see that both are populated by about 90% good posters with varying degrees of wrestling knowledge and language skills. The other 10% are passive aggressive and/or outright belligerent to other views. For those of us that frequent both boards, we try to remember where we're posting. That may come out two faced to some, but you can't trash a team on one board and expect them to talk to you next time you visit. Both boards need cross posters. AZ is one of the good guys. I don't agree with everything he types, but he is as even-handed as possible as a prominent poster on both boards.

The thread he started over there about Spencer Lee is complete bullshit.

I vert rarely post on the wrestling board but am an avid reader here, and also will note that the HR wrestling board is the only board for another team that I will visit on at least a semi-regular basis. I was very surprised and disappointed to see AZ start that thread.
All boards have their crazies certainly. A number of the "crazies" over there jumped on that thread, and others, to claim the crowd was cheering loudly because Lee was going to Iowa and they were happy he lost. I hope that when AZ has allowed some time to pass and the disappointment and passion of the moment subsides, that he realizes his post was out of line and, yes, he corrects his take.
22Mike306's take about the history of high school wrestling, and how knowledgable and enthusiastic the state's wrestling fans are, is spot on. They were cheering DeSanto for his great accomplishment. To DeSanto's credit, he acknowledged that Lee was wrestling injured. My guess, and that is all that it is, is that the vast majority of the crowd did not know how serious was Lee's injury.

When you constantly have to remind everybody what a great guy somebody is they aren't that great. People keep having to remind us what a great poster AZChief is because this isn't the first time.

He's not, and every time people have to tell us he is, it's just more proof that he's a shitposter.

Such bull$hit - Austin DeSanto is from the South-Eastern portion of the State and not very far at all from Hershey (DeSanto's high school is less than an hour from Hershey, while Lee's is roughly a 4 hour drive). Gee, go figure that DeSanto had more fans who were wildly ecstatic given that this was a rematch of last year's 120 lb. final between two wrestlers who were both undefeated for the year in the exact same building. What horse$hit that nobody should cheer for DeSanto in a high school wrestling match and if anybody does cheer for him it's because they're pissed Lee is goiing to Iowa, not because they're happy "their guy" won???? (DeSanto is going to Drexel btw, not PSU, but the fans aren't pissed at him.....huh????).

Chief is an Iowa fan and he posts a lot. Just given that, there are bound to be some posts that Penn State fans disagree with or come off as too strong when looking through the blue and white glasses.

I take it you've had the pleasure of meeting?

I've never personally met him but have seen enough dialogue that leads me to believe that he is a good guy. He also pays up on his bets unlike a certain OkState fan...

Edit: And he donated to Molinaro's olympic GoFundMe account. Probably not too many other Iowa fans did that.

That's fine, and probably fair, but if he's such a "good guy" and knowledgable poster, then he should understand how much BS it is to insinuate that people were cheering against Spencer Lee, a freaking PA legend, because he's going to Iowa, instead of acknowledging that PA has the best talent, tradition, and fans and they were cheering the underdog in his home district and/or for one of the best HS matches in history. Proven when Lee was loudly cheered receiving his medal.

It's wrong on 2 fronts: it insults PA HS fans, and ascribes some long-since-undeserved superiority to Iowa, like they still run college wrestling. Newsflash, they don't, and haven't for awhile now, and won't again for the foreseeable future. If he wants to come here and talk wrestling that's fine, but don't run back to HR and talk smack. That's insecure and weak.

Huh??? What on earth does a Lee v. DeSanto 126 lb. PIAA State Championship match in Hershey, PA have to do with wearing "blue and white glasses"??? This is the subject he chose to start a string about on the HR board and it has absolutely nothing to do with "blue and white glasses", his post and opinion regarding fans cheering for DeSanto being disrespectful to Lee "because he chose to go to Iowa", is just plain inane nonsense and flat out wrong.....and certainly has squat to do with "blue and white glasses". :rolleyes:o_O

Another poster telling us what a great poster AZChief is. Again, if people constantly have to tell us that somebody really is a great guy despite his posts then he's not that great. A great poster would be Roar, a guy nobody has to defend, because he's a great poster. Chief is no better than the rest of the delusional posters HR breeds.

I don't disagree with you. His thread falls in line with the first part of my statement not the second part regarding blue and white glasses.

Roar is definitely a class act.

What he posted was complete BS. Just because he's a good poster doesn't mean he was correct or above scrutiny.

How about the fact that the fans actually didn't "boo" anyone, least of all Lee.....they cheered for good wrestling and many were cheering for "their guy" (DeSanto was wrestling less than an hour from his home - under 2 roundtrip driving, while Lee was wrestling halfway across the State from his home - i.e., like an 8-hour roundtrip driving. Go figure DeSanto had more fans there??? LMFAO!). But to claim anyone was "negative" and "derogatory" toward either wrestler, or that the cheering one-way or the other had anything to do with Lee's college choice, is just plain bullshat.

Im not going to direct this post towards anyone in particular. I agree in extending guys like Turk and AZ some latitude when posting here. I'm just wondering why some PSU fans that post over there felt I didn't deserve that same kind of respect from them? Regardless of how some of you feel, I did nothing over there that they themselves haven't done here yet some of you protect them yet hung me out to dry over there. In my opinion its doneso the are more liked or accepted by the Iowa fans there. To me that's being two faced.

And before AZ pops in here and says I come here and brag about being banned there Id like to shut that done real quick. He's right, I've talked about it here but only to let them and everyone else out there know our fans and mods here are the greatest on the interwebz. We respect opinions from others, are way more tolerant and quite frankly every bit as knowledgeable as they are.

Why do you want to post over there so badly? If they don't like you over there then it's not a place you should even want to go. I mean, why would you? I don't go places where people don't like me, it doesn't make any sense.

I'll give you 10 to 1, that you can answer your own question correctly.

I love reading the board over there because I get a lot of info there that I don't get there. Its really not so much that I feel the need to put my 2 cents in there but will admit there are times I'd like to. The thread started by AZ would be one of them.

Exactly correct, but he goes even further and says it's because Lee is committed to Iowa. "They hate us cuz they ain't us" lolololol. First, no they don't, and second, Iowa doesn't rate that attitude anymore. Wrong on so many fronts.
