Football Penn State survives Bowling Green upset bid 34-27

Honestly, I’d be okay with them moving Carter back to LB so it’s Carter, King, and Rojas. Now that’s a great linebacker corp.

BG is usually near the bottom of the MAC. Having that many seniors is helpful. It is next year that will be a problem. Michigan found that out today.
I also heard in the pregame show that Michigan committed 8 turnovers last season and 4 of them were to BG. Loeffler has done a great job with program.

BG will contend for the MAC this year. They went bowling last year and lost by a TD to Minny and have a ton back including a sixth year QB

Did anyone else feel that consistently throughout the game the linesmen were spotting Penn State guys have to a full yard short of where they actually gained? On one of Singleton‘s runs down by the end zone. He clearly got past the 4 yard line and they barely tucked the ball inside of the five. a couple Alan runs up the middle on the next drive. We’re both marked just about a yard short of where he actually gained as well.
It wouldn’t surprise me. Officiating by nature is an arbitrary job. If someone watched a recording of every play in the game to look for officiating errors you might find 20 - 25 mistakes a game.

Good thing we have a bye week to get ready for Kent State
Loffler is going to give them a ton of good film. We are going to see that offensive scheme the rest of the year.

I find it interesting they overturned Allen catch when PSU was rolling, then offensive pass int at home for TD, then BS offsides on the false start, then holding on kicking team, then spot to BG for 1st down at end. All convenient and ask yourself if those are called at Ohio Stadium?

The coaches obviously made some adjustments that worked, like moving Carter to middle linebacker.
I 100% agree with this. BGSU was killing us with misdirection / quick release passes that didn't allow time for the pass rush to get home. A lot of PSU blitzes left a lot of things open.

I love blitzing but not so often that it becomes predictable. And NOT ON 3RD AND 14 from our own 16. They have an easy FG even if we get a sack. Stay in coverage and give them 5 yards + FG.

A ton of problems today. A touchdown called back, a bad holding call stops a drive, a ton of penalties, kickoff out of bounds leads to 3 points late, 11 needs moved back to LB, sorely missed KJ, etc

"You have to give them credit, they played their tail off. The moment wasn't too big for them. They showed that on the opening drive. We were in a dogfight."

You do realize that Franklin never has lost a non-conference home game.
The obvious response is... so what? How many B10 and National Championships has he won? Are we in this for participation trophies??

11 should never play another snap at DE

Franklin notse taht Penn State was more efficient on first dwon defensively in the second half which played a big part in the defensive turnaround.

The offensive pass interference on Evans was close. I think the issue was his hands went to the face.

PSU was definitely offsides. The defender fell into the neutral zone which caused the OL to move.

The ball definitely hit the ground on Allen's near catch.

Andrew Rapplyea's injury happened very recently according to James Franklin. He doesn't know the severity of the injury. Rapplyea was seen on cruches.

Did you expect PSU to win every game 50-0? I’ve got news for you: even if PSU has a great season, they’re still going to probably lose some games this season and, as poorly as they started this game, they still won.

People just don't comprehend things. This line was obvious to bet on BGSU. Just like last week was an easy bet for Penn State. Like you said, we won. There's stuff to work on but there was last week when we killed WVU. Nothing changed today.

Ok. I am just saying that BG is not good historically. You beat a good team today that came to play. The teams you really need to worry about are yet to come. It is the same for Ohio State.

We'll agree to disagree. Franklin is massively overpaid for his terribly average performance. PSU wins 'most' (not all) of the games they should, but rarely (ever?) wins the games where PSU is the underdog. He's an administrator, not a leader.

The correct betting lines are obvious once the game is over.

No these were obvious prior. Both saw the line change because of the media's influence. I didn't think it would be 7 today but 5 scores wasn't likely after last week's game

Franklin is not a strong football game day strategist. He’s at a point in his career where it’s not going to magically appear.

Yep. Nobody is happy with today's game. The BG coaching staff did a great job and their QB played so far over his head that he had a nose bleed in the first half. Their running game was just adequate enough to set up their passing game. And their QB made great decisions and put the ball on the nose. He is a sixth year kid who played for coach Allen while at Indiana (after going to Missouri and xfering to Indy only later to xfer to BG). Last year's MAC champ Toledo beat BG by one point last year.

I am late to this thread, but maybe the worst part of this game was AK turtling up on the playcalling. Actually thought he called an awful game. I also feel that we need to make a change at WR coach. Thank God for Warren to compensate for our absentee WR‘s. On the defensive side, we obviously made good adjustments at halftime. Hopefully we can clear up a lot of garbage over the next two weeks in practice.

Penn State completed 13 passes with only 3 completions to wide receivers (Evans 2, Fleming 1). If the WR play doesn't improve greatly then this team is going nowhere.
