PSU - Bucknell Match Thread

149 P1: Hogue not holding back against Zain and it's scrappy from the start. After some dancing back and forth, Retherford goes low to an ankle, swings outside and brings Hogue down for 2 and then 2 more quick NF, 4-0.

Zain hit for PD with legs in and wrenching on the arm to set up a bar. Tries a 2-on-1 tilt later, but can't hold him there long enough for count. Then he hooks under the chin and turns with the bow-and-arrow and now there are counts. Working toward the pin as time is running low but doesn't get it. He takes an 8-0 lead with 2:07 RT into the 2nd. Crowd really wanted that pin

157 P1: Nolf goes in hard for a blast double but is denied. Comes back again with a single and trips Bassolino for two, 2-0. Bassolino escapes, 2-1, then Nolf almost lets him in for a double before turning him over and sneaking behind for another TD, 4-1.

Bassoloino escapes and narrowly evades a trip attempt from Nolf. Nolf after a few attempts picks up an easy TD with an ankle pick, 6-2. Bassolino escapes, Nolf takes him back down, 8-3.

Getting tough to match the pace on the keyboard, but Nolf adds two more TD and takes a 12-6 lead with 1:06 RT into the 2nd

What's this hula hoop gal doing the rest of her life?
Does she gets free tickets to duals she performs at?

Hall can't turn him in the 3rd. Cuts him, and plays catch and release. Hall stops a beautiful double to scramble for the last TD with :11 left, getting the tech 21-6.
PSU 29-3

Bo won big 16-6 with dominance.
Cassar got taken down and ridden out, down 0-2 Bucknell has 1:20RT

Escape Bucknell. Takedown Cassar, and another escape. 4-2 Bucknell.
Cassar gets in deep on the edge, but Bucknell counters around to take a 6-2 lead. Cassar works to the edge and the ref dings Cassar again for stalling. 7-2 w/2:00+ RT going into the 3rd.

Wow, nothing like wasting 30 seconds for no reason there. Time for Cutch. That was just...really bad.

8-4 after a Hoffman escape. Stall warning Hoffman. close TD on the edge but no TD called. Cael asks for review.

The whole world was yelling for Cassar to cut him and he literally sat there on the edge of the mat and just wasted time. That was just awful. No awareness there whatsoever.

Wow, who was that who just wrestled for PSU. Looked like they had a big night celebrating the homecoming game.

I'm not sure what to make of that performance, Cassar looked like he was wrestling in slow motion.

Wow, this kid has zero awareness. If they were making a wrestling video game and they were awarding attributes Cassar would have a big fat zero for awareness. He has no idea what is going on.

Can't spend a bunch of time on bottom and then not make every second count when chipping away at that lead.

Wow, sorry guys. Just realized I've been writing all these updates into a different thread. I'll have a recap of it all after this bout

285P1- Nevills takes a 3-2 lead and :14 RT into the 2nd

Breathe bro. He needs to be great in March, not November.

I think it's time we insert the known quantity. Cutch was ranked like #4 coming into the season. After what I just watched I think we go with Cutch moving forward. That was some wrestling you'd expect to see from a freshman. In high school.

Joseph attempts to lure Hollingshead back into a cradle upon the standup but doesn't lock it up. Escape Hollingshead, 6-2, and then Joseph with another one, 8-2. Escape Hollingshead, 8-3. Inside trip attempt again and Joseph almost goes backward. he bails on it and then recovers with another TD, 8-3. Hollingshead hit with a stall as Joseph mushes the face.

New174 P1: Hall vs. Nick Stephani from the good ol' NTL. It's Hall who strikes first, 2-0. Escape Stephani, 2-1, and Hall is right back on the attack. But Stephani lowers levels and he's next to try a shot, but Hall neutralizes it before taking another shot, 4-1. Escape Stephani, 4-2.

Hall goes low for a far side ankle pick for the next TD, 6-2. Stephani quick escape, 6-3. Hall with the next TD, 8-3 and Stephani with the escape, 8-4. Hall with another TD and this time he rides, 10-4. On a mat return, he drives Stephani into the mat and you can hear an audible gasp come from him all the way up here in press row.

Hall takes 1:06 RT into the 2nd

197 P1: Big scramble after 1:00 of neutral and they remain that way. Cassar goes in from a distance for an ankle, which allows Hoffman to counter for the first takedown, 0-2. Hoffman trying to lock up a bar on the left side; Cassar hit with stalling. That's a first on PSU for this dual.

Hoffman leads 0-2 with 1:20 RT heading into the 2nd

New197 P3: Neutral to start it's Cassar who gets the next takedown, 4-7. Hoffman escapes, 4-8. Cassar goes in hard for a TD, forces a stall warning on Hoffman and nearly gets the TD but ref doesn't award it. Cael comes out with the brick to challenge it. After review, call is reversed. Takedown for Cassar, 6-8.

Escape Hoffman, 6-9. Then Cassar goes in for two. Hoffman fights to stay neutral but Cassar fights harder and gets it, 8-9. Escape Hoffman, 8-10. Cassar is working but he's going to run out of time and fall, 8-11, to Hoffman. Hoffman wanted that one from the start

Penn State leads 33-6 with one more to go

Does Cutch beating someone from Bucknell help him in March? How about Army? I just don't see the hurry. Let 'em battle it out through Scuffle, give both guys starts, and let the chips fall.

Hey jrd send coach Carl an email. He may have missed what you saw! I would guess it’s a coaching moment. As Cropduster 507 stated it matters in March. I remember Mark Hall and Cenzo with losses early on last year. Let it play out.
Cropduster great job on the updates today.

285 P3: Nevills goes up 8-3 and continues working toward the arm lever, almost getting too high, but it's aggressive

Nevills hit with another PD and he's going to win this one after an escape and a quick TD at the end, 11-4 with 2:50 RT.

Penn State wins 36-6

I go with the guy we know. Cutch is going to be a R12 guy. Cassar? Well, no idea. Today was really bad. He wasted about 40 seconds for no reason. He seems to score from counters more than his own offense. He has no idea when to cut a guy and when to work. He was outworked by a kid who isn't going to qualify for NCAA. We know we have a guy in Cutch, we should be going with that guy.

If Cutch wasn't able to get matches, I'd get that. However, he is able to at opens. I'm not saying Cassar should have the starting job until March, but give him the opportunity to fail now, in November, when Cutch can get quality matches in elsewhere, as well.

Overall, quality dual for the Nittany Lions. Yeah, Cassar had a hiccup. But Bucknell came to brawl, today. Some of there guys who were sacrificial lambs battled hard, as evidenced by some not quite getting their usual bonus amount, or expected amount.

But seriously. Ya'll are all connected in PA. Tell the hula hoop girl I'm willing to relocate.
