PSU - Lehigh Match Thread

I really believe that Verk is the better wrestler but Gardner does not lose that match. Just my opinion.

Verk needs to show some urgency in the first two periods he always seems content to "manage" a tight match and gamble's on what plays out in the 3rd.
If we didn’t have background info on either would you still think Verkleeren is better?

Looking for ducks from 15ft or counters isn't having much offense in your tool belt.

If TR Foley doesn't think Mark Hall has offense, I'd like to hear his assessment of Verkleeren.

Does Berge's headgear have a concussion pad on the front? Looks like it. Interesting but not 'concerning'

157: Berge vs. Josh Humphries

Per 1
Nothing thru 30 sec. Humphries tried for a single, nothing. Thru 1 min, and Brady has yet to shoot. 1:30, same. Humphries reaches, nothing. Stalemate. Humphries shoots, Berge counters and gets behind for the TD, 2-0. Humphries out immediately, 2-1. End.

Per 2
Humphries takes bottom. He stands and is out, 2-2. Berge with a double, Humphries tries to roll thru, and a stalemate with 1:21 left. Humphries shoot, Berge sprawls, and a stalemate with 49 sec left. End

Per 3
Berge takes bottom. He has 6.4 sec of RT. Humphries tries to throw in a boot, and a stalemate with 1:45 left. Berge up quickly on the restart and he's out, 3-2. OOB with 1:39 left. Humphries in on a single, Berge reaches over, eventually a stalemate. Berge in on a low single, trying to lock a cradle, gets the TD, 5-2, can't even lock the cradle, and Humphries is out with about 30 sec, 5-3. Berge snaps down, then Humphries shoots for the legs, more action in last 30 sec than the entire match, but no points. 5-3 DEC

People here complaining about Verk I don't think watched him in HS.

Verk was really good early but in folk there is a reason he was walking on at PSU. Hoffman is a solid D1 wrestler and last year I believe Verk and Hoffman were very close.

Gardner is a very solid guy as well. Not much talent gap between the three.

Verk is a solid NQ type guy as a soph and has a lot of experience which makes him a tough out against anyone.

Unfortunately hes not the next Zain like you guys want.

but it feels better when we lay down at night and close our eyes

Yeah, overall really happy with what we saw from Berge there. He’ll get better but Humphreys is tricky—even if he never looked close to scoring on Brady.

I always appreciate your input dice. There should be realistic expectations but I don't think anyone expects Verk to be the next Zain. Plus Verk beat Hoffman last season so some negativity can be expected.

And how did that match last year go?
Verk eked out a win.

It's not like Hoffman is not a tough kid. Luke Karam is wrestling in opens right now because of him.

Verk is going to win a match or two that is going to make everyone happy - if he hangs on to the spot - and hes going to lose a few that make us mad.

I'd consider him at risk to lose to anyone in the top 30 or so (NQ types) and able to win against anyone not on the mid to top rungs of the podium.

This match falls in line with that.

165: #1 Joseph vs. Bryan Meyer

Per 1
Nothing thru 1. Joseph shoots a single and Meyer tries a counter, nothing. Joseph gets a single and trips Meyer to the mat, 2-0. After a bit, Joseph has him flat. End. RT @ 55 sec for Joseph

Per 2
Meyer takes bottom. Joseph gets a caution. Meyer too his feet, and he's out, 2-1. Joseph in on the legs, nothing. Meyer has been tough. Stall warning on Meyer. Joseph misses on a shot and Meyer gets a leg, and gets the TD, 2-3. Joseph with an esc just before the buzzer, 3-3.

Per 3
Joseph takes bottom. He's out quickly, 4-3. Joseph with a TD with about 40 sec left, 6-3. Meyer out with 20 sec left, 6-4. RT over 1 min for Joseph. Meyer with a late shot, nothing, and the buzzer. 7-3, with RT

How long will the Lugo/Verkleeren match take? A hour?

thats a match like dice was pointing to where Verk could very easily with his counter offense win a match where it looks like he should lose.

lugo will be pushed to shoot from his corner and crowd and I think that fits Verk style better than a guy like tonight who is comfortable not to shoot either
