PSU - OSU Match Thread

Great win by Brady. Similar to Lewan, Cleary isn't someone you can really blow it open against.

Wow, that had all the markings of Brady knowing he had the blast double set up... and just kept it in his pocket until the end. Almost like if he needed it (i.e., was trying the ankle pick and a couple other things) he was just keeping it in his back-pocket.... and he just nailed it! That was lightning quick.

Berge.... you have to root for the kid. Only has Verk type O. I guess every one of our guys can’t be dynamic.

Both Berge and Verkleeren seem to have good defensive skills and to wait for counter-wrestling opportunities. It is difficult to unlearn a mindset and habit.

I vaguely recall them wrestling each other at the U Penn tournament (Keystone Classic) a few years back. It was close, with Berge winning I seem to think.

Berge is a freestyle guy like the international competition -- get in close, hit short attacks quickly and cleanly.

Not a shoot from space guy like most folk guys.

He might be perfectifying a liitle too much -- working so hard for the perfect short shot that it never materializes -- but that will come.

Berge restores some faith in the Penn State end of period takedown habit. Heinselman & Sasso had two key end of period takedowns that were shaking my belief.

Beau's takedown from space looked like a praying mantis vs a spider. Lightning fast.

He is going to be a terror for 4 years. I like the freshman Beau better than the freshman Sasso for sure. I think we might like the March Beau better as well.

Exactly. After riding Cleary for 20 seconds or so in the 3rd, you could almost see Berge think "Should I spend energy trying to get the RT point or let him go? Nah, pretty sure I can take him down when I really need to, so I'll cut him now and conserve energy."

I was impressed by Bartlett. First time at the weight. Against the #1 guy in an away meet. Gets the first TD. Hand fights well. Keeps it close. Gets the escape at the end of the match. Will be interested to see him against other top 15 guys if he iis the man at 149 going forward.

That's who Brady is--great defense, good counter offense, and clutch work late.

Neither of Berge's TDs were off counters tonight... He had a third on the ankle-pick at edge, but just missed on closing it out. That blast-double to end it was textbook perfect and lightening quick against a damn good defensive wrestler - damn good! I'd say he's got a bit more than defense and counters in his arsenal.
