PSU Rutgers Match Thread

Gulibon nearly in on a single leg but Ashnault works a stale mate. Gulibon works feverishly for a takedown in the last :30, forces a stall warning but Ashnault wins, 4-1.

Can't fault the effort on that one

Rutgers ahead 6-4

good ride but pointless when you are losing and wont get RT ...without a d@mn TD. strategy i guess....heres to it working

Gulibon had a lot of td attempts - just couldnt finish. Vastly better than the big 10 final last year. Jimmy is showing huge heart this year.

Jimmy had him tired after the rideout - personally, I think he should have taken the risk and taken down, but water under the bridge. Jimmy had a great Head-Outside Single shot earlier in the match, but lost control of Ashnault's leg. Jimmy could have won that match, but he got a little sloppy with his position twice in 1st period. Ashnault looked very beatable in that match.

Zain scores two first-period takedowns against No. 14 Theobold and he takes a 4-1 leadinto the second, along with a cut on the back of his head. He now has a head wrap like this>

Never expected him to beat AA but nice to see Jimmy in that match. Ride out was a moral victory to build on.

Nolf and No. 16 Van Brill exchange on their feet before Nolf gets the first takedown. Van Brill escapes and then he actually scores a takedown against Nolf

Then Nolf goes off.

Fireman's carry and then a cradle and then a who knows what to call that...smh

Nolf up 15-4 after the first period.

Whoa.

Ankle pick Nolfie.....2-0.....release him 2-1.....Jason gave up TD.....then escapes.....TD Nolf......he's got the cradle.......4 NF Nolf............he has his head figure 4ed......4 more NF for Jason..... Wow what a a 1st Period 15-4!!!

at one point it was 16-4 with only 30 +/- secs of riding time in 2nd period.....against the 16th ranked wrestler.....kid is special of the special.

Joseph isn't impressed. Teched that dude last year.

Ref is funny. Leading the anti-face mushing movement. Jumping in like a UFC ref.

Would of liked to see Cortez go tonight. Anyone know if he goes at Iowa. Clark is about as tough as it gets coming back from an injury. I love Carpenter, but he's giving up 5 or 6 at Iowa. Could be down 8-0 or 9-0 and I don't see Jimmy winning at 141.

Anybody else shocked that Theobold kept trying to ride legs on Zain and was not particularly subtle about trying to get them in. Riding legs on a wrestler of Zain's caliber is suicide.....you could see Zain kind of in a tripod waiting for Theobold to fall to low on his hips then he grabbed his leg side in ripped him to the mat and jumped right over into the head & Shoulder lock (i.e., a textbook Farmer's Roll). Still shocked that Theobold thought that riding strategy was a "good idea" against a guy like Zain - riding legs is high-risk / high-reward, but against a world-class guy like Zain it's mostly just high-risk.....as in "suicide".
