PSU - Stanford Dual Thread

Nolf might be the only guy in the country to put a scare into IMart. Man he gives up the TD on the headlock attempt...it p!sses him off and he just goes OFF!...impressive

If Nolf were fishing they'd call his match catch-and-release.

Stanford threw out quite a few wrestlers other than those projected by Black Shoe Diaries. Does Stanford have some injured wrestlers, or are they just playing with the lineup early in the season?

Listening to the PSU announcer on gopsusports.com was entertaining. I'm still wondering whether he had an orgasm during Nolf's match. :)

Switching to Byers to hear the postgame, so I'll miss whatever Chertow says on the Pac-12 network.

Ernie Lucas award winner is McIntosh

MM being interviewed. He had a lot of fun this weekend. Great to see his family and friends. They needed bonus points so he went for it today. He doesn't get a lot of pins, but he was happy to get it today. Thought everyone wrestled great, Gulibon wrestled tough, and Shakur as well. He's enjoying being on this team with all the young guys going out and showing what they've got. Guys were impressed by the lovely weather, and the sun. Guys saying they want to come to CA after graduating. They're going into SF tonight (the team). It's becoming a really special senior season. He thought it would be, based on what he saw in the room last year. The young guys are going out hard, and scoring points, and they should be even better at the end of the season.

PSU off until NLO on Dec. 6th. Next dual meet is Dec. 13th at the BJC against Wisconsin.

PSU won the TD battle, 30-5.

On the season (4 duals meets), TD battle being won by PSU 119 - 14. 9 pins thru the first 4 dual meets. Byers thinks the TD # is amazing.

Several guys (Moss, Beitz, forget the others) also made the trip. Really good team in terms of how much fun they are to be around, how well they get along, etc.

Loved Chertow's analysis of Guilibon, "he's getting the crap ridden out of him". Overall a pretty solid team performance, IMO.

Woops, didn't see this thread, earlier. My b.

Actually my bad, Crop. I was in a rush to get this started, and mistakenly started it on the McAndrew board. I didn't realize it until the 2nd or 3rd match, and then I moved the thread to this board.

That seems unduly optimistic after the butt-kicking that McKenna just administered to Gulibon. McKenna was superior in every respect.
2 to 1 in takedowns, and Jimmy forced a stall call in the 2nd. Granted, he struggled on bottom, but I'm with the others, I see it a lot closer than you, it appears.

Nope, my glasses are equally full and empty. Did you see something different than a butt-kicking in that Gulibon-McKenna match?
I sure did. I saw Gulibon not ready for the early double, then do absolutely nothing on bottom the entire first period.

After that, I saw a very even match. Gulibon was much more active, took most of the shots, and should've converted on more than he did. Give McKenna credit for making Gulibon earn takedowns, and converting on a Gulibon shot in the 3rd.

Better today? Yes. Better in general? Can make that case. "Superior in every respect"? No.

I think McKenna very well is the favorite to be on the top of the podium after these early weeks. However, listening to the broadcast they said mckenna is cutting a ton of weight and the reason given as to why they didnt start the bout at 125...so to give mckenna more time to square things after weighins. that says to me that he could be beat by the top competition. Jimmy has all the talent to beat him. If you dont agree that is fine. Ill stand with CD on this, as I feel he can.

Its a message board opinions are what make this world go round.

But to be honest, my retort was more about ....two weeks in a row you trying to be the even-keel police. to each their own I guess.

I'm not trying to police anything or limit discussion in any way. Twice in two weeks I have responded to comments that I considered very optimistic with zero objective evidence to support said statements. That's really all there is to it from my end.

I'm not a negative Nelly, but I do try to be objective. If you consider that being the "even keel police", so be it, I guess.

Cael must be smiling to himself how J, as in Jackhammer, Nolf responded after giving up the early TD off a lost grip on a move. Just went right to work and kept going.....and didn't stop until he totally discouraged his man, the guy didn't want to be out there any more, so he showed him the lights.

I'll give you that Jimmy was more active from neutral in the last 2 periods, though it seems a rather hollow distinction, given what transpired in the rest of the match.

Zain vs. Paul Fox

1st
Fox shoots gets in deep on a single, Zain with a scramble, really going a long time, and a stalemate at the 1:57 mark. Fox in on a single again, Zain sprawls, and a stalemate at 1:33. This is a surprise. 1 min left. Zain in on a double, and he gets the TD, 2-0. End. 34 sec of RT

2nd
Zain takes down. Zain up, Fox drops to his ankle, and Zain out in 9 sec, 3-0. Fo shoots, and Zain counters with a throw-by, for the TD, 5-0. OOB with 1:16. Zain threw in legs, then took them out. He's riding on the side, and then basically cuts Fox at 50 sec, 5-1. Zian in on a single for the TD, 7-1. 30 sec left. Ref wants Fox to to work. Fox to tripod, and back down as Zain has legs in. 1:36 of RT

3rd

Fox takes neutral. Fox shoots, nothing, then Zain shoots, nearly has it but Fox has his ankle, Zain in a split, and nearly has Fox pinned even though he doesn't have the TD, and a stalemate at 58 sec. Zain in on a single, Fox gabs the ankle again, Zain trying to push his back down, and gets the pin at 6:36! Wow, a pin when he didn't even get the TD

PSU leads 25-12

Zain improvised, and showed the diversity of his skill-set.

Nolf broke his opponent in the first. That performance was just nuts.

If 4pts is a butt-kicking to you, I guess. Like others have said, if Jimmy is awake for the early double, that takes away a takedown and the obscene amount of riding time McKenna racked up. If he gets to his offense (there was at least 1, if not 2 nearly-converted shots from Gulibon), and stays on it for 7min, I think he has more than a chance.

He got beat by 4pts today. That's a fact. However, his end of the match work-pace and getting that stall call were positive indicators that he was more than just flopping like a fish out there.
