So, WVU had their QB and tackle and one wideout

The powers that be made it what it is. With all the money floating around in college football and the players getting precious little, what do you expect?
l expect some allegence to the TEAM who worked diligently to get where they are rather than to selfishly think of themselves. The chance of significant injury in that one extra game is not all that great. But Harray for me and to hell with my teammates.

I would have no more or less of an issue with a kid skipping a playoff game than I do with them skipping a bowl game. If you have established yourself and you want to protect your future, I’m not sure which free game you are playing really matters.

Well, unless I didn't read it correctly, the school can pay for an insurance policy (I'd always assumed the player's family or friends did!) that includes the potential signing bonus and an expected ten year income. Who knew? I have no clue how many schools have provided this perk nor, for how many high rounders! Just amazed the NCAA went with it! Cost...come on, PSU football makes millions and not talking about every senior. Could pitt come up with the bucks?

I'm not looking for the NFL to pay the schools. I'm just trying to protect the integrity of the game. What if you paid to travel to a bowl game only to learn that your team's top players weren't going to participate? Next thing you'll see is kids pulling a hamstring in September and deciding to sit out the remainder of the season so they can prepare for the NFL. I think that's wrong and I think rules could be changed to correct it. That's my opinion.

I'm trying to hold onto the dream that college sports are played by college students. I'm not one of those people who think we should pay players or that players should be able to major in football. I think that would be horrible. Maybe I'm dreaming.

That's the problem. I would never pay to go to a bowl game that wasn't part of the playoff. At least not just to see the game. If I planned a family vacation around it and took in the game for what it is (an exhibition) I wouldn't care who sat out. I want what's best for the kid more than the program. If they believe sitting out is best for their future then they should.

I can respect you trying to hold onto that belief. I gave up on that decades ago. IMO college football is big business and it's a minor league system for the NFL that provides us a lot of entertainment.

We differ here. I can't foresee a kid ever sitting out a playoff game because they want that title.

The month or almost month in a half from the final game to the bowl game is what sucks.. Why not take a week off and then start play the bowl games? Why do we have to have bowl games over the holidays?

Wonder if playing the games sooner would let key guys play.

The NFL and NCAA could work this out if they wanted to. They did it with the 3 years out of high school rule and they could do this if they were so inclined.

The NFL agreed with the NCAA on that rule? Are you really that ignorant?

I can see it. And I wouldn’t have a problem with it. At least, I wouldn’t have anymore of a problem with it than I do skipping a bowl or regular season game. You go to college to set up a career.

The NFL has a rule that prevents players from entering the draft until they've been out of high school for 3 years. So no, I don't think it's ignorant to suggest they could make other rules that would discourage kids from persuing their NFL dreams before a season (including bowl) ends. And yes, I think the NCAA and NFL are able to discuss rules that would work to everybody's mutual benefit.

Ok, so 3 years from now PSU is undefeated thru the first part of the season. A trip to Columbus is coming up, and the PSU offense will face 2 DLs and a linebacker who will no doubt be first round draft choices next spring.

PSU QB Haywood Jablomie, a 5th year senior premed major with Heisman Trophy aspirations, has announced he wont play in the OSU game. "My mom and my uncle, who is an agent, are too worried that I might get hurt, so I'll be skipping OSU, but I will play Rutgers next week."

Yeah, you are ignorant. Anything you suggest is a clear violation of anti-trust statutes. NFL lawyers are smart enough to realize that so it's a non-starter.

And if they leave after their junior year, they have to pay back their whole last year as well.
Then you want to pay them what they are worth as you cannot have it both ways? How much revenue did SB generate in the last few years? If you don’t want kids leaving early, follow D2 or D3 ball. The ships aren’t magical gifts to the kids. It’s a big money business, not anything else and the schools benefit with millions in return for those ships. That ship goes to another kid the following year so they owe nobody a thing.

I couldn’t find the sarcasm font for my post.

Zeke Elliott sitting out game today....he’s letting his teammates down. Just because the game means nothing, he should be out there with his brothers.:)

A lot of players don’t care about the meaningless bowl games. Nice to travel but they’d rather spend more of the holidays at home with family. I’ll have a problem if a kid skips a playoff game. Otherwise, the kid should do what is best for his own future.

Barkley should have just sat out his entire junior season. Seriously, what was the point of playing? His time was better spent prepping for the combine. He couldn't improve his stock any higher than it already was after the USC game.

Exactly. Because, at the end of the day, what's it really matter anyway? There are kids starving in southeast Asia for crying out loud.

They should send a cadre of enforcers to every team that has players saying they will not play in a bowl game to meet with all the players and demand and throw chairs until all the players agree to play in the bowl. You know, kinda like Uncle Fester.

Keeping a kid out of the NFL until he's been out of high school for 3 years isn't an anti-trust violation? Ask Maurice Clarett.

It was collectively bargained. They rarely lose those cases.

skip the bowl, and they got thrashed when their 6'6", 210 lb backup qb, with arms like pipecleaners, showed up terrible.

And now, scUM, missing several NFL wannabes, gets beat like circus ponies by a bad Florida team. Huh. It's almost like blowing off your bowl game is harmful to your so-called "brothers."

I wouldn't draft a single one of the prima donna pussies that skip their bowl games to a team I owned or coached.

You would have passed Yes.... and
You would have passed on McCaffrey...smh

Yes... favoring a pick like Barkley or Chubbs.... I suppose you would have picked Rashan (what the F did he ever do) Gary? It's a team sport and I am not denying McCaffery his physical abilities, as a HC or Owner or Head of Player personell, I would want more than ability from draft picks. So shoot me.

Agree. How do you think the OL feels after seeing those guys set up for millions so they can get humiliated on national TV.

If you were going to pass on McCaffrey you won't have a job very long. And, yes, someone will take Gary pretty high and there's a good chance that turns out very well for whomever takes him. Sitting out a bowl game isn't a character flaw.

That 4 year full ride is precious little for sure?? Bet a few of Cael’s boys would appreciate the $120k plus school waiver.

The system is broken for sure. NCAA will do nothing to fix it.
