Southern Scuffle - Jan 4 & 5

Read about Lou Banach of Iowa. Competed when Heavyweight was unlimited. Won 2 National Titles(only 3 years eligible ,got beat his junior year ). He pinned 350 pound Tab Thacker, and beat 400 pound Shelton in semis his junior year . He weighed around 210 pounds.
He won his soph and senior years, 3rd his junior.
His RSF year, Dean Phinney wrestled Unl for Iowa and placed 3rd, but Lou was eligible to wrestle. Lou's twin brother Ed won gold at 177 that year.

Your point is correct though, Lou was a very strong small heavyweight and was very dominant in a field of literal giants.

Lou came up to my section one year at nationals looking for Coach Lorenzo. We ended up talking for half an hour. It was a cool visit. The reason he was looking for Lorenzo was he heard Rich didn't get a ticket down below so he came up to switch seats with him. Somebody had already taken care of the typical PSU screwup and Lorenzo was sitting in the lower bowl, but very thoughtful of Lou.

Roller MFF’d out of the consi semis, Kurt was probably done regardless. Maybe he won’t be allowed to accept 5th, should know shortly

I just read over on Turks board that only PSU "high" recruits were doing well at the Scuffle.

Pierce listed as being a Kaleb Young - Murin level recruit for us. Despite not being ranked in the top 250 (Murin in the 30s, Young in the 20s).

Alternative reality...
Your post fixing the record will result in the entire thread getting deleted in 3… 2…

Scorned, resentful, moronic come to mind. They take a lot of pride in the dubbing “Lightweight U”. Joke’s on them

The fact that Cael is apparently able to get guys as 4-year room guys with no hope or expectation of ever starting who are as good as the guys they get for 4-year starters and team captains is probably more of an insult to Iowa than anything. LOL.

HR exists to allow Hawk fans to exhibit their lack of wrestling knowledge, communicate their wrestling fantasies and participate in a group think exercise in a collective chant of "heeeeesssss stttaaallllliiinnnnn".

From a Nittany Lion point of view HR exists just for our entertainment!

For a minute, I read Ryder's opponent to be "Al Haig."

Which would have been something...

My biggest LOL is reading about how tough the Salute is becoming. Nah, it’s still a JV tournament.

Then again, they dominate it and allow themselves to get complacent mid-season when they need to realize they’ve still got a 70 point gap they’re facing

TJ Stewart needs a break from wrestling I think.
There was a lot of rumors last year that he was going to transfer out of VT during the offseason, he might just need a fresh start somewhere else.
This is what Willie posted on the Iowa board about it, “he considered going in the portal all season and up until a couple hours ago. but he's staying at Tech.”

He’s not helping improve his NIL value. Was 7th last year, but a losing record this year.

About the opponents:

Pierce vs Williams. Williams was R16 last year. Ranked 16th by Intermat.

Ryder vs Heeg. Heeg is a RSFR who transferred from OKST. Went 11-2 last year on Redshirt. Originally an Oklahoma recruit who flipped to OkSt, Flo had him #5 at 182 when he flipped his commitment.

Mirasola vs Brophy. Brophy is a second year starter, RSSO. Ranked 30th by Intermat. Went 18-12 last year. Second in his conference.

Mirasola vs Stoddard. Stoddard is a second year starter. SO. NQ last year. Ranked 24th by Intermat.

McHenry vs MFF. MFF has been around an awfully long time but has never won a match. Should be an easy dub for McHenry.

It's just part of the entertainment. It used to be they dominated the Midlands and that allowed them to believe "We gotta shot".

Now they have the Soldier Salute to dominate and it allows them to believe. God, I love it when they believe.

I got to talk to Beau Bartlett's dad last year at the big tens. He discussed that and said PSU goes to bat for their guys in things like job and school references . He seemed to say that Cael has a lot of influence .
