He won his soph and senior years, 3rd his junior.Read about Lou Banach of Iowa. Competed when Heavyweight was unlimited. Won 2 National Titles(only 3 years eligible ,got beat his junior year ). He pinned 350 pound Tab Thacker, and beat 400 pound Shelton in semis his junior year . He weighed around 210 pounds.
His RSF year, Dean Phinney wrestled Unl for Iowa and placed 3rd, but Lou was eligible to wrestle. Lou's twin brother Ed won gold at 177 that year.
Your point is correct though, Lou was a very strong small heavyweight and was very dominant in a field of literal giants.
Lou came up to my section one year at nationals looking for Coach Lorenzo. We ended up talking for half an hour. It was a cool visit. The reason he was looking for Lorenzo was he heard Rich didn't get a ticket down below so he came up to switch seats with him. Somebody had already taken care of the typical PSU screwup and Lorenzo was sitting in the lower bowl, but very thoughtful of Lou.
