sPitt getting their it together....maybe not

Reportedly Joe Heskett (Former Army Coach) is interviewing for the job. Hasn't coached since 2014. Has been in some sort of associate AD job at WVU since. Sounds like the new Pitt AD really screwed this search up. Never should have let Santoro go without an offer

Its the street so take it for what it is.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around why Roselli would reach out to Santoro warn him. They may be great friends (?), but you'd have to think Pitt -- alums and/or admins -- must have pi$$ed him off for him to essentially sabotage the plan, no?

I know there's a dog eat dog aspect to the coaching profession, but it's also a small fraternity. As we say in my industry, your competition today is your partner tomorrow.

At some point, when Lyke persisted after Rosselli, it became apparent that the AD did not support Santoro. Nobody should take a job in that situation. Rosselli did the right thing.

Another curiosity: Rosselli wrestled for Flynn at Edinboro, Gotta wonder what he told his old coach.

He'd be a great fundraiser...the best fundraiser...in fact, he could fund 9.9 scholarships and a new room in perpetuity by himself.

Oh, wait, you don't mean the current President of the United States? Carry on.
Hahaha - definitely had me going there!
Thinking more on Mr. Taylor...I think he's too goal oriented (Olympics) right now to be based in Pittsburgh.

Pitt has neither an Olympic training center nor an administration committed to creating one.

Pitt will not land any athlete with Olympic aspirations until that changes.
Interesting comment on both Pitt (not good) and on the state of the sport (getting better).

To me, this Olympic Pedigree - and the administration's commitment to see that it continues - is what made ISU such an attractive coaching destination. ISU has done a terrific job in getting the PR Message out there that they are committed to returning ISU to its former glory.

Apparently ASWP has had the opportunity to sign two of the countries top coaches - both with deep Pennsylvania scholastic wrestling connections - and has managed to screw up both opportunities.... The message this sends about the athletic administration at ASWP will scare the bejeezers out of any established coach. What a freaking train-wreck.

That Flynn news doesn't make sense to me. I'm supposed to believe he informed his wrestlers he was taking the job at Pitt, but dropped out because he didn't get assurances of a facilities upgrade? It was a big enough of a negotiating point to withdraw his name altogether, but he told his own wrestlers about his intent to leave before getting that assurance?

Or did he inform his wrestlers Pitt had offered him the job? That tweet is incredibly vague.

I would imagine he simply told his wrestlers that he was interviewing and his reasons for doing so, nothing more. Not bad transparency as a coach.

Yea, I would respect this, but the way the tweet was written, it seemed like he had already decided to leave and inform his wrestlers of that. Maybe I'm assuming too much.

My buddy is a long time sssistant high school coach. Since he doesn't work for the school, he isn't the head coach, but he is the engine behind the teams success. They had their best year ever. They had five guys almost qualify for fifth at the county championships. He just got a call from Pitt.;)

Unintentional I'm sure, but it is amazing how ironic the the title is to the seminal post of this thread.... Via a complete botching of the Santoro negotiations (arguablly one of ASWP's all-time greats, and first ever 4x All-American, as a wrestler), ASWP's athletic department has proven yet again that they are the diametric opposite of finally getting their $hit together!

Another thing to think about is that sometimes people will snoop around for jobs without a real, strong intention to leave their current situation in an effort to boost their salary. Wrestling coach salaries have been moving, generally, in an upward direction, but at some colleges have not been adjusted for a while. One way to get the adjustment process expedited is by being able to compare other offers.

I hate all things sPitt, but I don't hate their wrestling team. I would actually like to see them invest more into the program and bring in a good coach. Whether or not they actually do it is another story.
