True Rivalry game vs PITT...

You have no standing to apologize for your vile "fanbase," whether that makes you feel warm and fuzzy or not.

You are a cartoon. That's a fact. Just stop.
I am sometimes embarrassed by some things said by our fans, as you should be with yours, if you have any class. Our fanbase is no more 'vile' than yours. That is a fact. You calling me a cartoon? LOL.

Yes we should play Pitt every year. Pitt will get better one day and I am not concerned with the recruiting or anything else. I believe a strong Pitt and Penn State is good for us. We used play William and Mary for crying out loud also Temple Rutgers Maryland and WVU and they all sucked. The rivalry can be epic again.

Well, we may all be dead before this rivalry ever hits the 'epic' stage again. ;).

So you're willing to drop all thoughts of ever playing an OOC game with Bama, ND, VA Tech etc and only play Pitt every year instead? If you are that's fine.......but I'd say you're definitely in the minority. ;)

Pitt fan here. Many of you PSU fans have pointed out interest in scheduling games with LSU, Texas, Alabama, Oregon, etc... Has there been efforts from your AD to schedule these types of OOC games? Which ones are currently scheduled? Is the interest mutual from the fanbases and leadership of the other schools?

Just wondering. I've seen and heard many PSU fans bring OOC games like this before. Thanks.

I for one would not consider playing a home (us) no home (them). There is already talk of the Steelers moving to the 'burbs. Where would we play them???

Besides, having been "treated" to hospitality (hostility) by Pitt fans I do not want to experience it again. Car - "keyed"; car - broken into; coffee thrown in the face of a person I was with that day. No thanks

Trust me you guys are no better. There are drunk fans like that at every program in the country.

We want Penn State to play marquee opponents. I am not aware that Penn State's AD has tried recently to schedule games with the likes of LSU, Alabama, or Oregon, but those are games we as Penn Staters would like to see. Few of us accept pitt as a substitute. There are many schools I would rather see Penn State play than pitt.

Discussions have taken place with LSU. Beyond that, Barbour is too busy with her strategic plan and fund raising.

Uhh.... let's not forget that we JUST played Alabama. There is no way they would rush back in to a series with each other.

Why do people change what you say and try to put words in your mouth instead of taking a post at face value? I didn't say I would drop games like Bama ND etc. to play Pitt or even insinuate that I would. Taking next years schedule I would take Pitt over any of our scheduled OOC games. I mean the Buffalo Bulls? Who is that? Temple who cares? Army, San Diego State, you can't tell me Pitt would have more interest in Pennsylvania and be better for Penn Sate than those teams.

LSU, Bama and Oregon all would be good games and good for recruiting. Pitt would be neither.

Because to play Pitt every year would require the choice that I wrote. With 3 OOC games- 2 must be home every year to get 7 home games. These will always be the Akron, Eastern Michigan, temple type games (no return game needed). That leaves 1 OOC game for a home-away series. Either that's Pitt every year (as Pitt fans want) or that gets rotated to VA Tech, WVU, Bama etc. It's simply a matter of math with the need for 7 home games to fund all sports and 9 conference games starting shortly.

Currently WVU and VA Tech are scheduled. There are discussions with LSU (no decision announced yet that I've heard).

Serious question: How many times does this need to be explained to you?

Further, with a nine game conference schedule any long-term home-and-home contract, whether with ASWP or anyone else (and, yes, I would include Alabama) just reduces the AD's leeway in scheduling attractive opponents. So if Barbour wants to schedule ASWP for a four game series with the possibility of an extension, I'm okay with that. Anything longer and she's the fool I fear she may be.

Amazing how long this thread has lasted :)
We "could" wait for "history" to create another true rival or just continue as we have with no scheduled rival.
To me, either schedule PITT as a "rival" every year or forget them altogether. As far as OOC, I would prefer to play one of those game in a home and home against tier 1 schools (those with a LONG history of winning football, not the now and then schools). WVU and VT are not tier 1 !!!!

I believe the ship on whether Sandy is a fool or not sailed a long time ago, even before she got hired here.

Art, serious question. You may not actually be aware.

All I can remember about you and the subject of PSU presidents and administators is that you have not liked any of them. I cannot recall one that you seemed to approve of.

So, for the sake of having a point of reference, who do you feel have been worthy PSU administrators in modern times?

Why am I not surprised that the same guy who is capable of posting blank posts doesn't get it? When you are done delivering pizzas, please go back and quote where I said that "the big ten is the best". If you weren't such a moron, you would realize I was providing an example as to why the ACC is weak. That's why I lead with "How did the ACC's best fair against Oregon?" They were CRUSHED by Oregon, who was CRUSHED by Ohio State. The ACC team in the tournament was by far the weakest. I guess reading comprehension isn't a strength for you?

Since you didn't address it, we can only assume that you agree about the first part of my post... that Pitt is irrelevant and never was relevant unless cheating, and thus is not a true rival of PSU.

The ACC won the national championship the year before the B1G did, so they became a candy ass weak conference in one year?

thread that wouldn't die... funny how a non factor like pitt football could stir up so much emotion on a penn state site... hmmm..
I have been to many games at pitt and penn state for decades.. vast majority of people are great on both sides.. its the extremists who can give each school or any school a bad rap... You guys are excited about recruiting and you should be... However you havent seen results yet.... time will tell and at least for this year as I stated before if the teams played Vegas would call it close to a pick em..

Actually, I "think" PSU would be about a 7 point pick if at home. If at PITT it would be about a field goal. Not saying Vegas has a clue, but, they have PSU as a 4 point pick over Temple? Either they "know" something !!!! or they know NOTHING :)
I would prefer playing PITT every year, but it appears as though that ship has sailed. IF we (PSU) were not to play every year, I would prefer to not play at all. PSU has the most to lose.

quit making ridiculous responses and it will die.

As a point of reference, the only college administrator I have any respect for is Alan Brinkley.

The nature of the beast is that they are academics who like to play politics, a dangerous combination. Most are perpetual gamesmen.

You Pitt guys are so predictable. You keep bumping the thread just so you can feel relevant! We understand your playbook by now.

If that was the year the Big Least rejects joined, then yes!

Face it, FSU navigated a pansy ass schedule, and squeaked by Auburn on a down year for the SEC.

Wrong... the red river rivalry is Texas vs Oklahoma, not Texas vs Texas AM or Nebraska vs Oklahoma. Neither of these rivalries are being played now or scheduled in the future.
I know who plays in the red river rivalry. I was trying to convey the thought that even though Texas does not have A&M and Oklahoma does not have Nebraska they(Texas and Oklahoma) still have the Red River Rivalry. I did not make that clear in my post and I apologize.

Very good point. The people in Pittsburgh don't support Pitt football. Why would Pitt fans think the rest of the state cares about them?
how many people are showing up at Philadelphia Phillies games? does that mean that nobody cares about them around the state?

in all fairness plenty of folks have posted blank posts since the new format. I don't think you can make a judgment on one's intelligence because of that.

Many people feel the way you do. Those of us who are exposed to their extremely limited, and extremely vile fanbase eventually develop a distaste for them, and enjoy making fun of how pathetic they are.
Out of 100 Pitt fans how many do you think are vile? Could it be possible that there are as many Penn St fans with fan etiquette issues? I just can't see how you can make a blanket statement like that.

Even with Tony Dorsett, Pitt won only one game out of 4 during the seventies. Now without quality players, how would Pitt perform against Penn State...probably not very well. And that scenario will continue for years to come.....Pitt should be dropped from the schedule immediately. Nuff said.
Ohio St is beating us at a 65 % clip. Thank god we are in their conference.

What a worthless post, why waste your time? Obviously I am not basing my opinion of his intelligence solely on the fact he can't navigate the new format. But why not throw it on the pile?

If you have to ask this question, you just aren't paying attention. Pitt fans... nearly all of them. But I must point out that not all Pitt grads are Pitt fans. It's not like going to PSU. Many go to Pitt, study, graduate and move on, either ignoring sports or cheering for PSU like the rest of the normal people in the state.

Army has not beaten Navy in ages. Anybody advocating they not play?

Apples and Oranges. 2001 is not "ages". Those schools respect each other, the fan bases respect each other. Army fans don't act like vile children towards Navy fans just because they have a better program at the moment. Army led the series as recently as 2006, it's been fairly competitive. Pitt/PSU hasn't been competitive since 1981, and really only for a few years while Pitt was cheating.
